  1. I will eventually gladly give away my cherished possessions to any people or persons who love my stuff as much as I do ( or did, lol).
  2. Run what you got. Box of parts? At least build something.
  3. Don't think I ever heard a bad 6bq5/EL-84 amp.I have an old Fisher console amp I borrowed the outputs from and built two Simple push pull Tubelab amps, one with Fisher outputs and one with Olson integrated amp output transformers. The Fisher Output transformer triode amp is very engaging.
  4. Weren't the 18 inch drivers styrofoam coated or am I thinking of the 30 inchers? I also believe either the Patrician or the Georgian used the EV 848 mid horn?
  5. I hear details I have never heard before with any other speaker (76 lascala) air, sound stage width, depth, holey crap! Example, just listening to "Ain't superstitious" by Jeff Beck. Never knew how great that recording was. This with a rather modest Tubelab 6BQ-5 Simple push pull amp in triode mode, and with an old Polk Audio sub.
  6. I have a VTA driver board bought 1.5 yrs ago in order to rebuild an old rusty st70. I used the 12AU7 version, as I have a hundred of them laying around in some iteration. Very listenable amp.My wife initially bought the amp at a yard sale for 10 bucks or so with all original output tubes (proud of her, I wasn't even with her!). It sat for 20 yrs or so until I rebuilt it, Just felt I had to do something constructive with it, painted the chassis hammertone bronze. rewired of course.Really not an unpleasant sounding amp by any means. No idea if it distorts unpleasantly at 10 watts or so,as with LaScala's 10 watts will drive you out of the room. I think as a push-pull amp it sounds just fine.
  7. 15 watt Edcor output transformers? Does a HK Citation II output transformer even do 75 watts? Probably, but 5 times the size maybe?
  8. Here's a fun one: Inside the vacuum tube (Rider, 1945) Should be able to download off the internet as a PDF.
  9. Pass B-1 does sound good, sounds delicious loud. Surprisingly, reminds me of the FET-10 phono preamp I had years ago.Who designed the Fet-10? Yeah Nelson Pass.
  10. Reminds me of a pair of push-pull 2A3 amps I built. The guy who designed them (Henry Kuck) demonstrated to me 150watt peaks on these amps.Hope you're well Henry! Yes, they still exist!
  11. Holey crap.Tube amps and a plethora of home brew tube amps! God bless you guys for being maniacs! Any of you guys build JLH amps?
  12. If the chassis is unmolested, the transformers are good and the price is right, its a worthy investment.I don't recall ever being enamored of the sound but never heard a Citation II in a really good system either.Highly renowned for the output transformers, wish I had a pair of them to fool with.
  13. Seem to be respected in the high end community, never heard any of their equipment.
  14. Wish I didn't already have a pair, uh wait a minute.Can't believe theyr'e still available.
  15. Lascala is a fine instrument to test audible hum. I think building amps is therapy as much as a search for better sound.still, I run out of room.I just hope some of my equipment is used as intended when I no longer need it.
  16. Forgot to mention you may get a crapload of B+ from the transformer that was probably rated for 115 volts. Maybe too high a DC voltage for the Tubelab simple pushpull 6BQ5 tubes, which I think require about 320volts.You can (carefully) disconnect the secondary wires and see how many volts it runs at.Probably will be impressively high, unloaded, may not even sag much with a good load on it!
  17. Good start of a stereo amp.Nice heavy power transformer, choke, at least one of the 2 salvageable chassis.Find another similar output or buy a pair of Edcor Push pull output transformers. You could go to the Tubelab website and buy a Simple pushpull (SPP) circuit board.(4) 6BQ5/EL84 and (2) 12at7. You won't be disappointed.Wiring not that unusual of a mess. Most peoples point to point wiring is messy.Don't risk the transformers and yourself by electrifying those old capacitors.
  18. How about a low powered class A amp? Try a JLH 1969 10 watt per channel, or one of its variations. It sounds much more powerful than 10 watts and is a wonderful sounding ,simple amplifier.
  19. I remember hearing brain Salad Surgery for the first time, about 13.The album assaulted my senses aurally in a similar manner of viewing my first Playboy magazine.I still have a Japanese pressing of Welcome Back My Friends CD (1982?). Great live album.I also have an MFSL Tarkus I never opened , LOL.
  20. Cant' stand all that excitement, my hammer is waiting as the box is opened (3lb spider sledge) Any unbroken items are put into service.
  21. Yeah, on Gilligans Island.Could woo Maryanne and Ginger over for awhile with some coconut cognac , (just to) listen to some Carribean music.
  22. If one wants reliability, my favorite is for the GE 6550a.
