  1. Nope. They're in Memphis. I'm looking for a small company in PA. Thanks M,
  2. I need the name and phone# of a company in Penn. that sells record supplies. They were cheaper than anyone around. Anyone know of them? Thanks, Harry
  3. Damn, This came up again and I had to pull my glasses off, wipe my eyes, and can't swallow. Rob's passing left a hole in me. I've lost a lot of friends in my life and this is as hard on me as any as I've lost. It's still not easy. Barb and I still send silly emails and I just got some new pics of the family a couple of weeks ago so it's not like he's totally gone. RIP buddy. Save me a seat up by the band, order me up a long neck on ice. I'll see ya soon enough my friend.
  4. I picked up a pair of the 2CE about 10 months ago. I sold them March 14th on Ebay for $599 to a local buyer on pick up. Mine had boxes, manuals, the metal stands, all packing and original bags with them. I restored them cosmetically. Not a bad speaker. Weird build with the wooden column cage around the cabinet. The lady that bought them new had cats and I had to replace the grill cloth on them, repair the front columns on both speakers, and repaint the columns. I also had to repair the top and bottom caps on them. Bottom caps are held on with screws to access the cloth. Tops are secured with black rubber and have to be pryed off. Hundreds of staples to remove and the black rubber has to be scraped. Not an easy task. IF they need new socks on them just be prepared to put in some elbow grease and time. They like power with the smaller rear passive in them. Not a bass monster by any means. Placement is very critical on them and they don't like a larger room. They sound more like a vintage Polk Monitor 7 raised up off the floor about 18" than anything else I can think of. Maybe a little brighter on top. Very similar I played them out on a pair of 50wpc tube monoblocks and a Sansui 9090DB so I know I gave them plenty of power. I was always waiting for the speaker to "stand up and get my attention" but it always left me wanting more out of it. There's links on the factory site about placement you might want to check out.

A woman is having affair during the day while her husband is at work. Her 9 yr old son comes home unexpectedly, sees them together and hides in the bedroom closet to watch. The woman’s husband also comes home unexpectedly. She puts her lover in the closet not realizing the little boy is already in there. The little boys says “It sure is dark in here”. The man says “Yes it is” Boy..”I have a baseball” Man..”That’s nice” Boy..”Want to buy it” Man..”No thanks” Boy..”My dad’s home” Man..”How much?” Boy..”$250” Man..”OK” In the next few weeks it happens again and the boy and lover are in the closet together. Boy..”I have a baseball glove” Lover..”That’s nice” Boy..”Wanna buy it?” Man..remembering what happened last time said “Sure, how much?” Boy...”$750” Man...Fine. A couple of days later the father comes home and tells his son to get his ball and glove and they’ll play catch. The boy replied that he couldn’t because he’d sold them. Father...”How much did you sell them for?” Boy...”$1,000” Father..”That’s terrible to overcharge your friends like that. It’s way more than they cost new. I’m taking you to church to confess” The father takes the boy to church and makes him sit in the confessional and closes the door. Boy...”It sure is dark in here” Voice on the other side of the confessional..”Don’t start that crap again”
  6. Congratulations Amy! Hard work and good looks will take you far.

Since we're on a roll... Let's throw in a humorous insult or two. "You think you're hot snot on a silver platter, but you're nothing but a cold bugger on a paper plate."

This guy is sitting at home alone when he hears a knock on the front door. There are two sheriff's deputies there; he asks if there is a problem One of the deputies asks if he is married, and if so, could he see a picture of his wife. The guy says 'sure' and shows him a picture of his wife. The deputy says, 'I'm sorry sir, but it looks like your wife's been hit by a truck.' The guy says,' Yeah, I know, but she has a great personality and is an excellent cook.'

A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country. ~~~ Well, there's a very simple answer. ~~~ Nobody bothered to check the oil. ~~~ We just didn't know we were getting low. ~~~ The reason for that is purely geographical. ~~~ Our OIL is located in: ~~~ ALASKA ~~~ California ~~~ Coastal Florida ~~~ Coastal Louisiana ~~~ Coastal Alabama ~~~~ Coastal Mississippi ~~~~ Coastal Texas ~~~ North Dakota ~~~ Wyoming ~~~ Colorado ~~~ Kansas ~~~ Oklahoma ~~~ Pennsylvania ~~~ And ~~~ Texas ~~~ Our dipsticks are located in DC ~~~ Any Questions? NO? Didn't think So.
  10. You might want to blow any dirt from the tuner fin plates and then use a non-residue cleaner on them. Wash thoroughly running the tuner from one side to the other while washing them down. Make sure you let it dry completely before powering back up. It shouldn't take long to dry as most of the non-residue cleaners are Isopryl alcohol anyway. The reception will improve also. It works. I just did it to my 717 and 719 Sansui tuners. The 719 was way off before cleaning.
  11. Jay, Curiosity got the best of me when I read this post. I've spent the last couple of days doing 5U4 listening tests on 5 Baldwin monoblocks and I'll go with the old clear RCA 5u4G coke bottles, then the Sylvania Smoked glass coke bottles or Raytheon tall boys. Original Baldwin RCA black plates were a little brighter and less desireable after a lot of listening. I have some GE "stubby" 5U4s that I thought were actually a little "lifeless". I did hear minor differences in the rectifiers. I don't think there were enough differences that I'd really be concerned with confining myself to one brand or type. Listening was done through an Electrocompaniet SS preamp, Denon CDP, and MC Supex SDX-1000 cartridge on an old KLH X-60 TT. I tested all 5u4s on my B&K 707 I just went through and restored and calibrated. All tubes tested over 90% and no leaks or shorts. All tubes quiet. I have multiple tubes of the same brand so I listened to the same brands a couple of times and they were very similar or identical in sound. All Baldwins have been rebuilt or completely modified so they all have different personalities. I built the Baldwins in matching pair monoblocks with a single 20w mono being the lone monoblock not matched with another. Different caps and even "canned the cans" on the red monos and used Nichicon caps and Mundorf S/O to replace all the caps in the red Baldwins. The most noticable difference was in these amps with the filter cans and all caps being replaced. I had to switch back and forth numerous times to even notice and appreciate the different personalities of the tubes. I used Vinyl and CD as sources to see IF it made a difference to MY EARS. I listen mostly to vinyl but do a lot of "quick listening" to CD. Same source material was used for all listening.
  12. I just put together some Baldwin monoblocks and I'm running the Groove Tube EL34 "M" in them and couldn't be happier with the sound or price. I got the quad from Brent Jesse for around $120 to my door I've got about 250 hours on them now and they're a heck of a good sounding tube once burnt in. They're a bit similar to the old Mullard XF2. I bought them to put into the new build amps as a "Burn in tube" before I put in a high $$ quad of the original Mullards. They sound so good I've left them in. They've come in very nice with more hours on them. The low end and low/mids are really smooth and strong. They're a bit ugly with the "GT" decals on them but I can live with it since they sound so good.
  13. That's what I remember, and still hear to this day. The riderless horse with reversed boots...and the drums. Dave Same here. Visions of a shocked nation.I think our country did change that day.
  14. When you replace the binding post make sure it doesn't make contact with the circuit board behind it. It will make contact with the tweeter circuit and throw direct amplification to the tweeter bypassing the xover. You'll be eating up $40 diaphrams quick. I just went through that on a pair I picked up. The guy had replaced the binding post and had blown 3 diaphrams in as many hours. I was able to space the circuit board on the xover enough to get clearance. NO more fried diaphrams.
  15. DeanG is very capable of the Forte crossover mod. You might want to contact him. I've had his Forte crossovers and it's a noticable upgrade.
  16. You might want to post your location in case someone local is interested in making you an offer on it. Or they might be able to offer up some advice for you.
  17. I guess you've never adjusted points then either. And you could work on the engine while sitting on the fender with your legs hanging down between the engine and wheel well. And not even dent the fender. I had a marvelous c. 1972 Opel sedan. Starter died, and I thought, crap... Took a look and I could lean over the fender, take the six bolts out that held it, and pull it straight up. Took all of ten minutes. Replacing the water pump at a later date was harder...about 30 minutes all told. Those were the last days when the majority of routine R&R of major components was a driveway job. I probably could not even LOCATE the starter in a modern vehicle. Dave I know how you feel on locating components on the newer vehicles.I had to replace the starter in my Cadillac STS and the starter is located UNDER the intake manifold. It took most of the day labeling vacuum lines and wiring as I pulled it down and re-assembled it. I felt like a fool having to call Cadillac to find the location of the starter. I am or should say "was" a fine mechanic and have built numerous custom motorcycles and cars and worked as a line mechanic and body man for about a half dozen dealerships up until '96 or so. Now I don't even change my own oil.
  18. Location always helps and some kind of idea of how much you want for it if possible.
  19. I'm pretty handy with a pocket knife. (Southern boy here) It's quick and not messy.
  20. That would make him a "music master baiter"? if he was. Some of the old A/K speakers were pretty nice. Some were stuffed with EV, Altec, etc.
