  1. OB,

    Thanks

I blame it on drugs and alcohol. I should have done more of both. I couldn't have been in this position. It's lifechanging for sure. Really cool though! He has good taste in tunes. Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd and Elmo's World are his favorites. OH, I almost forgot Acumatata from The Lion King! Catchy tune. Up to a year or so ago I worked in an office in the suit thing. My co-workers thought I'd lost it when I went around whistling "Elmo's World" all the time. Heck, maybe I had. I like my life now. I wouldn't trade with anyone on earth.

For all you part time Dads and Moms, I thought sending my support check every payday and seeing my kids only on the weekends I felt like it, I got news for you. You forgot you were a parent. My hat is off to all you gals out there that are single moms raising kids without much help. I think I know how you do it now. My deepest respect for the grueling task you have. I'm lucky in the fact I have multiple and transferable trade skills. I am able to provide being my own boss and setting rules as our life needs them. Don't forget your kids. I know of nothing more important in this life.

  2. I was not offended in the least. I feel discussing this is one form of understanding and even possibly enlightening ones thinking to the point of averting something like this. It's just not one jilted young man we have to be concerned about. It's the mother freaking out and killing her kids, client losing his case and trying to kill his atty, or just the criminal killing a taxi driver over $5.00. We had a freak here in Indy not that long ago killed his 7 kids. Apparently all who knew him saw no signs of this being a possibility or even a thought in that direction. What do we do in a case like that? What type of intervention is available? I'm not saying prayers are the answer to this problem. But then again, how much more could be happening without them? Maybe someone didn't pray for him. I doubt seriously my prayers are going to escalate this problem. I know they can be calming and give hope. Personally.

  3. I would wholeheartedly support any law that could stop this type thing. The problem I see here is there is probably(I'm sure) a law against what the guy did. It would be hard to enforce or intervene in this type of attack. In reality I doubt you could enforce any law that has the criminals holding all the cards. The law abiding majority of people on this earth would never contemplate an act of this kind. In my most sincere feelings I support your thinking totally in a perfect world. Personally, I'll wait on perfect before I could support this type of regulation. But then there would be no need for this endless debate.

This type of debate is probably going on locally in the VT area right now. I believe evil is evil even in the mentally challenged. There is and has always been the fight between good and evil. God and good will prevail. I pray!!

  4. It is going to be hard waiting for the final reports on this tragedy. I know how the media jumps to conclusions and half-truths things just so they can keep their advertising bucks coming in and viewers tuned in. We know the "Who", but the "Why" may take a while. I am very sure Oprah will have all the facts and answers... As she can sell it anyway. She will or may be just as accurate in her info as Jerry Springer. Same class of crap they both push on people. Very close to CBS, MSNBC, FOX, etc.

Maybe in understanding this horror may we figure out ways to slow these type of things down. I seriously doubt we will ever be able to stop them.

I wonder who will be crucified after the "media trials" have concluded. I'm sure some poor sap will get hung out to dry just because he is an easy target for the media. The media will probably go after the head of VT or local law enforcement over this. Even after the first two shootings it would have been hard to predict his rampage. Calmer heads and time should sort this out properly.

  5. tkd,

My 2 cents worth is probably worthless. I'm sure you caught my point clearly. Instead of beating around the bush, here I go again. I'm not going to blame it on a gun, bomb, knife, gas or anything but the KILLER. Your point is very well taken and for the most part I am in agreement. Laws need to be enforced against those individuals illegally using said instruments. To me it is the same as blaming an automobile manufacturer for drunk drivers, an institute for higher learning teaching the politicians that make poor decisions. Bottom line: It is the individual committing the act. Not the instrument. I'm not advocating arming anyone. Many of the people I know have NO business with firearms. Many people I know carry firearms. Including myself. I have been a legal carrier of firearms for over 35 years. I take responsibility for my own actions. I will not blame my skillet manufacturer for me burning down my kitchen, nor my automobile dealer for my backing over a shopping cart. I'm not going to shy away from my responsibilities and lay blame where it doesn't belong. Yes, Please, Please enforce our laws to protect our populace. Lock up the illegal firearms dealers, bootleggers, dope dealers, corrupt politicians and cops, criminals, doctors addicting patients for profit, and any other CRIMINAL doing harm to our society. I'll shut up and holster my fingers before I turn Right Wing Conservative, turn on Rush Limbaugh and start saluting the flag screaming "Heil S&W". We still have a free country and I hope it always stays free. Lock me up...not my skillet manufacturer.

  6. Hey DTEL,

Very sad indeed. I doubt locking down anything will do any good at all. An individual like this will find any means necessary to complete his act. Whether it be home made bombs, poisons, lethal gas, guns, or a kitchen knife. These "disturbed individuals" are akin to the homocide bombers terrorizing the mid-east. It is hard to stop someone with an intense focus on destruction. I don't think the general thinking processes of civilization can properly prepare for acts like this. The means to perpetrate these acts will be found. Subways, businesses, restaurants, post offices, schools, government buildings are areas of easy defensless targets. Predators on prey.

I'm teary eyed watching the news and seeing the faces on those involved. My heartfelt prayers are with the family and friends.

God bless all and protect us from evil. In any form

  7. I got into a discussion with a friend yesterday on the proper order for starting up and shutting down tube gear. He is an avid proponent of turning on his amp first and shutting it down last for the days listening.

I've been doing this differently for years and not always in the same order. I usually turn on my amps last and shut them down first. I usually fire up the CD player, Preamplifier, and then the Amp. Shutting down for the day, I usually turn off the Amp then Preamp, and then CD player. I can't remember the last time I had a problem of any kind.

Any comments or reasons for firing up or shutting down in specific order.

    Thanks,

    HarryO

  8. Hi, Novice on the Peach. Where can I find out info on these. I'm always looking for quality equipment and I've been reading good things on these. Excuse the intrusion. I'm just very curious.

    Thank you,

  9. M,

I'll check to see when I can get a sitter for my 6 year old (yes I'm a single full time father in my mid 50s+) and we will do the A-B thing again. I'll bring a good matching Crown IC150 pre in perfect like new condition for your listening. The tubes will be burnt in very soon. I'm listening to Dark Side of the Moon right now. I've had the same AMC amp running for 3 straight days now. I'll bring the same Pas-2 pre and same tube cd player with the same Robert Cray. If you want to get Nasty, I'll bring the EL34 Triad mono blocks.

BTW, I heard you received a message on your cell today. Your move.

    Glad to help out buddy.

  10. M,

Get you a good SS amp out and I'll run by with a good Preamp for you to use. I'll pick it up a couple of days later and you can listen to tubes again if you like. I've been running the AMC I brought over to burn in the tubes. It's sounding a lot better.

  11. Check out the McAlister Audio websight. Great sounding audio at killer prices. I've been running McAlister for about 3 years now. I couldn't be happier with his stuff. Heck, he's got SET up to around 20watts. one "L" in McAlister

  12. Power trannies are attached via 6' cord for more seperation. Typical McAlister. My ML-33 pre is the same way. The power supply is seperate from the phono and headphone amp preamp sections Power supplies are isolated for cleaner signal. I just sent the Power supply back to Peter McAlister for upgrade and new style casing.

  13. Michael,

Do you still have the big Crown SS amp there? I'll bring you over a good SS pre and let you borrow it. You can listen to high power ss for a couple of days and I'll match the AMC up against it. THe AMC is the least expensive and and what I consider the least musical of my collection. I'll still put the AMC against the Crown for overall sound quality and performance. The AMC will just sound better. Just like the other night. All the music will still be there.

    Let me know.

  14. The Challenge has been thrown out there. How we gonna set this up. The Pilgrimage here in Indy Maybe? I'm up for it. Bring your amps and whatever else you want to. My neighbors can be bought off for a couple of longneckers and maybe a 1/4 or something. Lets set it up and 'get 'er done!!

  15. I seriously KNOW, not think. I'm very familiar with Crown. I've been running the big tranny SS since Aug 74 when I went to twin DC300s, IC150, 700series R2R, Nak cassette, Soundcraftsmen Eq, and 4 ESS Heil Rock Monitors I bought from Sound Pro at 116th and Keystone on the north side of Indy. I retired a tired old Sansui 1000 tube receiver. I still have Crown DC300s and PS400s here now. I just pulled the 400s and put in tubes again less than 2 months ago. I'm running the Crites Eminence K-33 cast frame 400w replacements in my speakers. I just sold EV 700 Patricians with the 18" in them. YES, the tubes kicked harder than the SS. I have a pair of Krell 200w amps here now. Ultra clean sound but I most definitely find them lacking in power and "thump" They would NOT drive my Carver Amazing Silvers with 3 12" woofs and the 48" ribbons. An old Kenwood Kr-6050 SS actually drove them much harder. I can get more bass especially at lower volumes with the tubes. The big SS amps can be turned up louder, and that is what it takes to get them to drive as hard, but I'm not trying to fill an auditorium either.

I use both tube and SS. They get A-B comparisons almost daily. The tubes definitely drive harder with what I HAVE HERE. I won't stereotype SS vs Tube as a whole, Just What I AM LISTENING TO HERE. Klipsch Heritage, Altec Valencias, Altec 604b, 604g, 416s, 515s, Jensen tri-ax gold frames, EV, OHM Walsh 1, and a few others. I "play" with this stuff for a second income as well as a hobby and get the opportunity to hear loads of gear. JMHO though.

Please let me say it again, I like solid state. I just love tubes. I'm not trying to argue or talk anyone into anything else or sell anything at all.

Enjoy the music in any form YOU like.
