  1. Give us your opinion on Ed's stylus after you put some listening time on it.

When I installed my first one it was a replacement for a broken shank.

The second was replacing one that was worn.

I don't have a clue as to break-in time on the stylus. The one I still have is a wonderful sounding cartridge/stylus combo.

In both replacements I liked Ed's stylus. I'd like to have had the chance to "A/B" against a good factory Shure stylus.

  2. I just picked up a Denon POA 1500 amp and the lamps have been removed from the meter boards. "Snipped" off
IF anyone has specs on the bulbs and type of bulb I could sure use the help. I don't have a manual so after an hour of searching the web I figured I'll have to ask.
I know it's a long shot but "PICS and Specs/values" of bulbs would be great.
I HATE dark spots on the face of my gear.
    Thanks so much,
    Harry

  3. Nick,

I'd listen to it for a while before I made any mods to it.

Reading about all this stuff is fine and increases knowledge about the products but...Your ears are the final judge on this stuff.

I couldn't count the upgrades to my system I've made over the years that sucked! IF they didn't suck I ended up spending some major coin and moving "sideways".

It's easy to spend money. It's harder to get value for it.

JHMO. It's all up to you.

  4. For the money you can't beat Ed's stylus replacement. I've used two of them now and they're a quality product.

IF...IF I were you, I'd play out the 166 with a good mat on it and determine if you like it the way it is.

You might be surprised how good that table/cart combo can sound.

A good phono pre section or seperate phono pre is a must. That would my first upgrade depending on your present system.

  5. Burn in cable how they call that hummmm hummmmm, it does start with oil i think huuummmmm no no snake oil yeah that what it is Big Smile copper is copper. Just clean your contacts once in a while you will be fine.

Copper may be copper but long strand copper vs short strand is definitely different. Put a meter on it and check resistance.

I can hear a difference also in volume on longer strand copper. When I went to the AQ X2 wire I had to drop a half notch on the volume control. It was that noticable. Not scientific but noteworthy.

I'm not so sure on burn in on speaker wire but I've heard the difference in IC burn in. I figure playing it out will burn it in. LOL!

    Just my 2 cents worth

  6. I don't know anyone in your area that does them.

I'm sure someone will chime in with a good shop to use.

You can search the net for "pot luck" service. Re-cones are fairly easy on the P15 frame and it's something that can easily be done with close detail to instructions if you can find the cone kit in your area.

Shipping from the US shouldn't be bad if you use the Postal service. DO NOT use UPS or FEDEX across the border or you might be in for a shock with the hidden charges.

  7. Are they labeled "P15LL" on the outer edge of the frames?

They have excellent sound, they're valuable (I've seen them sell for over $300 each in nice condition), and can be reconed at a very reasonable price. The last ones I had done about a year ago cost me about $60 each including shipping back. I used http://www.circuitshop.com/ for my repairs I don't do myself.

I recommend them highly. Always excellent work, products, and service.

Tell 'em "HarryO" in Indianapolis says "HI"

  8. Do your crossovers first. The basic caps Klipsch used were so-so to start with.

They're over 20 years old and pretty much have "had it".

I've done a pair of Forte and Forte II in the last month and the difference in top end is amazing. They tightened up quite nice in the mids also.

The Sonicaps are nice but not necessary to spend the bucks on them. About any decent cap from Parts Express is higher quality than Klipsch used.

    ONE upgrade at a time.

  9. To isolate I would switch crossovers. I assume that you have one good diaphragm at this point. I would play that speaker loud, a little louder than it was when the other diaphragm blew - Test it to make sure it wasn't about to blow when the other one blew. Then I would put the crossover from the blown speaker in the good speaker and play as loud as it was when the other one blew (maybe a little louder just to be thorough). If it blows, it would point me to the crossover.

If it doesn't blow, I would connect that speaker to the same channel as the one that blew to start to isolate my amp, cables, etc.

    Hope this helps

That's an expensive way to tell if you have a bad crossover. Diaphrams on ONE speaker should tell you you have an issue with the crossover/wiring.

I just had an issue with a binding post replacement being too long and dug into the circuit board causing tweeter diaphrams to blow.

Do a thorough inspection and comparison between crossovers. Make sure you have the mids wired properly identical to the good speaker.

If you can't pinpoint an issue from there you should probably send it to a qualified tech such as BEC or a couple of other forum members.

  10. Welcome to the Forum...or "Family Fued" . LOL!

Nothing wrong with your Adcom gear.

IF IF IF you have loads of reserve power the Chorus II is a heck of a speaker IMHO.

For lower listening levels I prefer the Forte II. For "Rockin' Out" at higher levels I love the Chorus II. It takes a little/lot more horsepower to drive the Chorus II on the bass than it does the Forte II.

I've had 3 pairs of Chorus II and 3 pairs of Forte II. I have both large and small listening areas.

I originally did NOT like the Chorus II but in my conversations with STORMIN ol' Randy enlightened me to the fact that the Chorus II just has to have the power to make them work properly on the bottom end. With the power they are a heck of a speaker.

One last issue you bring up. $700 on Chorus II....For that price they'd better be "MINT". Not that they're not worth it but more along the lines of the current market values. I see a lot of them selling in the $400-$550 range.

Condition and location on large speakers....

  11. Definitely get "Enough" motor to keep yourself out of trouble.

Underpowered boats can get you in trouble and won't be able to get you out of danger.

Storms, wind, current, and wreckless boaters are hazards to be avoided. You need that reserve power to keep you safe.

Last summer on Geist reservoir I was fishing a small flat from deep water. I heard a large boat approaching and headed directly at me. I watched as it got closer and realized I was seconds from being rammed. I jumped to the console, fired the old 150 Merc up and shoved the throttle forward. The large craft never saw my boat and missed me by MAYBE 15' or so. My boat "launches" when throttled out of the hole. A slower boat would NOT have gotten out of the way.

As our boats cleared I looked up to see a "She Male" Captain holding a baby in one arm, what appeared to be a Doubles glass in the other hand, and looking to the rear talking to a passenger. She never knew I was there until I screamed at her as she went by. That's the closest I've ever came to a boating accident and as close as I want to be.

Let us know what you decide to buy. Boating is a great escape, loads of fun, and fishing is a way of life.

  12. Lying? Why my lips are moving. I couldn't possibly be lying.

Sorry I know of no source for pink camo, (I'll check with the French and Italians fashionatas) but I'm sure I can trick you out in with something in a petticoat.

As my reward you can chop down a few of those 16 foot plants, load them on top of your car and drive them cross-country to me. Hey, what could possibly go wrong?

I see numerous flaws in your plans. First, the French and Italians are not known to involve themselves in a fight so the camo would probably be decoration and not real functional camo. I'd have issues with wearing "knock offs"

Second: IF and that's a big IF....I'd probably have to smoke some of the stuff to make sure it's in proper working order before making such a long road trip. And from past experience I'd just about bet that I'd forget where I was headed and end up lost as usual. I know I'd miss all my exit ramps and the trip would be extended to the point I'd have to turn around and head back to Indy. Of course I'd miss the ramps on the return trip too!

Third: IF (big IF again) I did test smoke some (only for test purposes only) I'd have to have some iced down long neckers. Drinking and driving is against the law and I try to be a law abiding citizen whenever possible.

Fourth: I checked with USPS and the length of the plants are too long to ship.

Any reasonable suggestions for shipping or alternative transportation would be considered.

IF the fishing is as good as you say though, I might have to reconsider and attempt the initial suggested road trip.

  13. Dang Marty,

I'll have to stick to bait fish then. Pink is NOT my color at all.

Where I come from...If'n it's got a "NO HUNTING" "NO FISHING" "NO TRESPASSING" sign it should read

    "WELCOME HARRY"

I found the biggest pot field ever like that once. I got some polaroids with 16' tall plants but I can't post them 'cause that's against the rules of "LYING" about your fishing. NO pics allows you to tell the "TRUTH" about how big the fish really was.

I smoked some of that stuff and I had to quit fishing for a while as me and the fishes gots to be best friends. Some of the conversations 'tween us got reel educational and my fishing bloomed. I learned fish behavior first hand that night.

Yes sir, it's fishing time. Nothing like it.

Where can a fella find pink camo? I'll do about anything for a big fish.

  14. I've been re-spooling, sharpening hooks, tearing my reals down and scrubbing them out. New lube and inspection. I even changed out the drag washers on my old Ambassadeur 4500cbs and ran a q-tip through my guides. I got a feeling abouth this spring's fishing.

    Harry

Where I come from we call a fish that size:

    bait

Do you hook your bait fish thru the nose or behind the dorsal fin thebes? I'd like to see a picture of some of your fish, but I only have a 42" monitor.

If those Ambassadeur reels are very old they have a lifetime warranty. A service center would probably service them for free.

I do my own reels, build my own rods, and build most of my own lures except for plastics. It seems to make it more personal between me and the fish.

I stocked up on old Fenwick HMG blanks in the late '80s to build my own rods with Fuji guides and Fuji graphite reel seats. Lebanese cork for my handles. I underwrap all of my guides, file my guides to fit the blanks snugly, and file the upper part of the feet to let the upper wraps walk up the guide feet in a uniform manner. Nothing fancy on my wraps to speak of.

Bait eh? I've done some fishin' in them big deep ponds too. I lived on Catalina Island for a while and me and the big blue marlins done some dancin' a time or two.

    Harry

I use mostly clear blue stren
