  1. thanks guys for the help. I'll let you guys know how it turns out!
  2. Okay, so this is kind of a strange question. I used to have a rear projection tv which allowed me to use an Omni center channel mount which would sit on top of the tv and rest against the body. I've recently bought a Kuro and can no longer put the center channel on top. So I can either by a wall bracket for the center channel right above where the tv is, or I can buy a new tv stand altogether which will allow me to mount the tv on the bracket and place the center channel right below. The problem is, I am getting my Audio and Video ISF calibrated next month, and the man says that center channel placement is very important and to put it below the tv. Below the the tv would require the new tv stand option, but would put the center channel at ear level. If i go with the wall bracket option above the tv, it will put the center channel 2 feet or so above ear level. Shouldnt he be able to make it sound about the same either way when he's calibrating the sound? The distance from the couch will be almost the same in either position, it just wont be at ear level. The surrounds and front left and right are about at ear level as well. I guess im just looking for some advice as to how big of a deal this is since the new stand is a lot more expensive. If i mount the center on the wall i believe i can angle the speaker downward so it is angled right towards the couch as opposed to going straight out. Does anyone have any experience with professional audio calibration, or know if this will matter? Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the center channel is a Klipsch C-3. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  3. Okay, so my lowpass frequeny on the back of the sub has a range of 40-120 Hz. You're saying I should set lowpass at 120 then?
  4. Okay, so I have the F3, C3, S3, and Sub 12 speakers in my setup. I read on audioholics.com that they recommend you set the crossover frequency of each speaker to 10hz higher than the lowest it will accept. So this gives me roughly: Front L&R - 40Hz (35Hz - 23kHz +/-3dB) Center - 80Hz (73Hz - 23kHz +/-3dB) Surround - 80Hz (62Hz - 23kHz +/-3dB) LFE - 80Hz (24-120Hz +/-3dB) I also have the speaker size set to Small even though these are pretty big speakers. There is also a setting on the back of my Sub for Lowpass Frequency. I'm not sure how that differs from crossover, but I believe I have that set to about 60Hz. It seems as if I can only adjust the frequency in increments of 10 inside the receiver. Any help or comments about my settings would be greatly appreciated. Just want to get everything balanced just right =)
  5. Okay, this is going to be hard to explain but i'll try my best. I have a Denon 2807 receiver and Klipsch F-3, C3, etc surround sound. I seem to be getting some type of interference on my tv screen when I turn the volume up or down using the receiver remote. It basically looks like a straight line that appears on the screen for about a 1/10th of a second. If I continue to turn the volume up or down then it doesnt do it again. If i wait a minute or so before adjusting the volume, the line will appear again. I'm not sure if its electrical interference in the receiver or if the wires from my speakers are causing it or what. The line that apppears on the screen is very thin and appears across the entire width of the screen. It almost looks like the type of interference you would get on the old tvs when you turned your vaccuum on, except its just for a split second when I hit the volume button. Also, the line appears higher or lower on the screen depending on whether I turn the volume up or down.. Very strange I know. If anyone has any insight into what this could possibly be, let me know. Thanks so much =)
  6. Very cool, and reassuring at that. Not sure if anyone is familiar with them but I think I'm gonna go with a guy from the lionav site. They seem to have a lot of positive feedback from customers. But yeah, I'm pretty excited about getting it done, so I'll let you guys know how it turns out! Thanks again for the help.
  7. I was thinking about having it done to my SXRD but I've already tweaked it a lot with the Avia disc and was wondering how major a difference an ISF Calibration would do. I've heard that some people could see a night and day difference, so would it just depend on the set?
  8. Thanks a lot guys =) Well I've seen several different setups with the LR mains to the sides and a setup with them somewhat arced on each side. So you suggest that I try to push them further apart, or angle them differently?
  9. Thanks man, hopefully it works this time
  10. Hmmm, thats weird. I checked it earlier right after I posted it and it worked fine, but you're right, now its going to the main site. Well damn, can I just paste the picture right into this post?
  11. Well I think I finally have everything the way I want it so I thought I'd show you guys how it looks. Feel free to offer suggestions on different speaker placement. The couch is back about 12 feet with the rear surrounds, I'll try and take a picture of those soon. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=24264432&albumID=0&imageID=4507871
  12. Okay, so I ran the auto setup on my receiver and everything seems to work fine. It just seems like I cant here the rear surround speakers at all. I know they're producing sound, just compared to the center and L,R speakers, its really hard to tell. Although when I went into the setup again and did the level check manually, the surround speakers seemed very loud at 0db, so im not sure. Would it be a bad idea to increase the level of the rears? They are only 4.5 feet from the sitting position. Here are the rest of the levels if someone wants to take a look at them. Front Left +2.5dB Front Right +1.0dB Center +1.5dB Subwoofer -6.0dB Surround Left +0.5dB Surround Right 0.0dB
  13. Awesome, I finally got everything unpacked, connected, and all the setup for my speakers. I havent really had a chance to test them out much but from what I did hear, it sounds friggin awesome. I put in an epside of House from season 2 and it sounded so clear. The amazing thing is that at only -30dB, the sound is at perfect listening level for the room. I work at best buy, and the systems they have there I have to crank em up to -10db before they start to get loud. I cant even imagine mine cranked up that far, im excited to test it out. Also, the Sub-12 sounds nice and deep too, I still havent figured out the right balance for it yet, still have it set pretty low. Anyways, these things rock!
  14. I have the Sony Upconverting DVD player. And yes, the HDMI cable is the only thing I have running from the DVD player to the Receiver. I saw another post on here about a guy who had the same problem and he somehow fixed it in the auto setup, but I've already run that and it worked fine. I'm wondering if maybe I need an Optical cable from my DVD to Receiver. The thing is, before I got my speakers, I could play my DVD player hooked up to my receiver the same way, and get sound out of my TV. But with my cable box hooked up through component to the receiver, I got no sound out of the tv. So i guess im wondering why i would need an optical cable for the dvd player if it obviously sends sound out through my receiver already?
  15. Yeah, he's right, its a little more complex with digital than to just say, well its either on or off, a 0 or 1, so buy the cheapest cable possible. I do agree that cables are overpriced. I think people confuse Binary with Digital. Yes, they are similar in usage etc, but digital is much much more complex than that. If that was the cause then there would be no need for advanced systems such as Trellis Code Modulation and Convolution Coding. I suppose Signal to Noise Ratio could also be a factor, but I dont know how noticeable 100 corrupted bits out of say 10 million would be. Thats like 1/1000th of a percent or something like that.
  16. Okay, so i ran the auto setup on my receiver and the speakers seem to be connected properly. I just cant seem to get any sound out of my DVD player (the only thing hooked up at the moment). I have hdmi going from the dvd player to the receiver so it should carry sound right? Also, could someone look over this info and see if everything looks okay, the Denon setup manual seemed to jump around a lot and was a little confusing. For the speaker configuration check its saying that my front F-3s are "small", center C-3 is "small". Distance FL = 11.6ft, FR = 11.5ft, C = 11.2 ft, SW = 26.2ft (the sub is the same distance away as all the others but its saying 26?) Channel Level Check: FL = +2.5dB, FR = +0.5dB, Center = +2.0db, SW = -5.5dB Crossover Frequency Check: Front = 40Hz, Center = 120Hz, LFE = 80Hz I think thats about it for the moment... Thanks in advance!
  17. Thanks for the help guys, it was really late and I was having a Paris Hilton moment. =)
  18. Okay, someone feel free to slap me. I'm trying to hook up my F-3s with 16 gauge AR wire through banana connectors and im having some trouble figuring out what to do with the wire. So I unscrew the middle part of the connector, run the wire through... and then what? I dont know if im suppose to separate the strands of wire back aross the opening or what. Also, does it matter if the white soft center part of the wires is showing and coming through? Sorry newb questions i know...
  19. Yeah, thats what I was thinking too. Also, does anyone know if it makes a difference which side of the surge protector I plug my Sub into? I have the Monster Power 1000 MKII and there are 4 outlets on each side. I think one side is for audio and one is for video but im not sure, and one side is all filled up. This wont matter right?
  20. Does it matter if you plug the Subwoofer into the back of the Receiver as oppose to in a Monster Surge Protector?
  21. Yeah, I used the Klipsch Accomodation. The bestbuy discount is great, but the accomodation is still better =) I wanted to get the denon 4306 instead since it had 3 hdmi inputs and upscaled to 1080p but i went the cheaper route. The 2807 is still pretty nasty though, hopefully i'll get my speakers tomorrow!
  22. Hey, thanks for the all the posts guys. I actually got a call and they said my order should be here Monday, which is super fast. They said it was over like 200 pounds in the shipment (thank God for accomodations right?). So hopefully by Monday afternoon I should have figured out the best settings on my receiver and all that good stuff. I'll keep ya updated, thanks!
  23. I'm pretty excited. I used the employee accomdations for the BestBuy I work at and got a pretty sweet deal. I went with the F-3 Floorstanding speakers, C-3 center channel, and the Synergy Sub-12. I know, I decided not to get the 2 surround speakers just yet because of money and space issues but I'm sure it'll still sound good hooked up to the Denon 2807 thats been sitting on my shelf for a month haha. I guess while I'm waiting for them to be shipped I need to buy cables for everything. Can anyone offer some good advice about brands for cables/connectors? Price isnt an issue since the discount is huge on those, i just didnt know if there was any big difference or anything like that. Thanks in advance guys.
  24. The Professor is right, haha. I work at BestBuy, and while the Blu-Ray demo itself looks really nice, the actual trailers look pretty "noisy". Makes me wonder if BestBuy is trying to promote Blu-ray over HD. I dunno, could be just a coincidence. But our Blu-Ray player is out front on a really nice 1080P LCD, while the HD player is at the back on a pretty low end hdtv. By the way, someone mentioned what a great job the HD player does on upconverting. Does anyone know if they do a better job than latest Sony upconvert players? Mine does a pretty good job, I've just never compared them side by side.
