  1. Hey I'm in Austin too I don't have RF-7s, but have RF-83s. I'm running a Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXsi with an Earthquake Cinenova Grande 5 power amp. If you really shop around you can get this combo under 3 grand, or much less if you don't get such an expensive receiver. Sounds great BTW
  2. I have RF-83 mains, RC-64 Center, RF-5 surrounds, and an RSW-12 sub. I'm running them on a Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi with an Earthquake Cinenova 5 power amp. The 140 wpc @ 8ohm was just not enough in my opinion for the RF-83s and RC-64. The Cinenova does a clean 300 wapc x 5 @ 8ohm, and more at 4 and 2 ohm. You should really look into a good power amp for that combo, even with the elite being 140 x 7, which is high for most home receivers, it just didn't seem like the dynamic power needed for the RF-83s was there. Just my .02.
  3. I was wondering what are some good choices for power amps to match with the RF-83s. I currently have them running on a Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi "bi-amped", but want to do it correctly. Some Crown amps looks interesting, but the .5 THD seems high? Also which amps won't put off a lot of fan noise. Thanks, -Peter
  4. Actually none. I use the PS3 all the time to watch Blu Ray, only bought one game for it, played it for about 2 hours. Also the PS3 upsamples NTSC DVDs to 1080... Played the 360 a lot when it came out, now just watch HD-DVDs and PAL region DVDs on it. Wii lost it's charm after a few games :/ Actually I'm far too busy to play games anymore... I work way too much... trade off for being able to get nice things I guess.
  5. Set it all up last night, using bi-amp setting through the Pioneer. I listened to 300 on Blu-Ray, Matrix HD-DVD, Nine Inch Nails Blu-Ray, Beatles Love DVD, Some MP3s, and Misc CDs. I was blown away with how well the RF-83s and RC-64 and even the RSW-12 blend together. The RF-5 surrounds might have to be turned up a bit, but seem to sound right and not distracting... just don't seem to have enough volume, but I didn't mess with the settings at all. The MP3s really sounded terrible, it's very easy to see all the highs and lows are cut out. Here's a quick picture from this morning (House is currently under a full remodel btw):
  6. Yeah I would imagine it would be more crucial with the fronts / center. I've had the RF-5s and RC-64 running together for a while and couldn't really tell.. The RF-83s haven't gone in yet, just haven't had the time. Finally made some time to get the new stand in, and move all the AV gear over, so I'll put the speakers in tonight
  7. Also, if I do not bi-amp, which amp is recommended for 3 x 250 output.
  8. Current Setup: Front Mains: RF-83 Center: RC-64 Surrounds: RF-5 Sub: RSW-12 Components: Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi, Panasonic 58" Plasma 1080p, PS3, Xbox360+HDDVD, Wii, HD Cable I was wondering what your thoughts were on my system, mainly if having tower speakers (RF-5s) as surrounds loses anything for the system, also that they are not the same series as the RF-83s and RC-64. Also I know this one has been covered, but how is it even worth the effort taking the 6th and 7th channel and "bi-amping" them with the 1st and 2nd to make "280 wpc" for the RF-83s? I've read too many posts about this, and nobody ever seems to have a straight answer one way or the others. Thanks, -Peter
  9. Haha, it's paired with RF-5s right now and is too powerful. I'll be in a bigger living room soon and will also be upgrading to RF-83s and a RC-64, so it should match better then.
  10. Ah ok... is it harmful to leave the sub on all the time? It's in a rather tough to get to location?
  11. Thanks Mike! One more question, seems like if I have auto-off enable, the sub shuts down no matter what after 15-20 minutes. Does it not understand the LFE signal from my Pioneer Elite?
  12. I just connected my RSW-12 to my pioneer elite VSX-84TXSi's SUB pre out. I connected the cable to the LFE Left input on the sub, and it seems that only the back woofer is vibrating. The Front seems to hardly vibrate. Does that front just act as reflex for the back or should it vibrate just as much? Thanks, -Peter
  13. I think my music would be done in stereo, with the sub helping out The RF7s can be had at a good price, I was offered $1,300 a pair locally at a home theater shop. How badly would the RF-5's and RF-83's be matched? -Peter PS: My girlfriend is terrible with plants
  14. Sony has said countless times their "real" launch will be in March. This will come with a full marketing campaign and some very desirable games. When the FF series, Gran Turismo series, etc... start to show up, Sony will do just fine :-) BTW: I have all three systems, and even the HD DVD player for the 360, so I'm not biased. I think HD DVD looks better too
  15. I was wondering if anybody could give me thoughts/opinions on my system. I recently bought a pair of RF-5s to use as my front channels. I then realized that my receiver wasn't up to the job, so I purchased a Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi. After listening and playing with the setup for a few days, I decided I needed a little more bass in the system, so I purchased an RSW-12 to fix that. Just for now, I have a pair of Wharfedale Valdus 500's in the rear. In the coming months, we'll be moving to a new house with a much larger living room. I plan to move the RF-5s to surround, use the RSW-12 as the sub, purchase RF-83s for the fronts, and a RC-64 for the center. I was wondering what everyone thought of this setup? Here's a current pic: Thanks, -Peter
