  1. Looking at the unfinished bottom makes me want to strip them down and re-stain
  2. I've had them about two weeks and realy enjoying them with the Dynaco amp (Over the rogue) Just finished installing a new grill and painted the base. Still havent figured out what to do with the finish. Lots of layers of eurothane. Doesnyt look bad but I dont like it. I will re cap and re-wire within a week The picture makes the grill look transparrent its not Thanks for all the support and comments
  3. Thanks, whats the thoughts on veneer over the the exsisting finish?
  4. I picked up a pr from a ebay win and finally got to spend a few hours with them. (I have had Lascalla's). First off they are very source dependant. Even to level of a albulm (i'm 99% vinyl) I had them hooked up to a Rogue Tempest II 90 watt tube amp (Kt88's) and they sound good. Then hooked up my modded ST70 and you would have needed a shover to pick up my jaw. I'm much more impressed with these than the Lascallas in my room with my equipment. Bass was lower and the volcals weer a lot smoother. I have read lots of posts from people likeing the cornwalls better. Now i'm one of the converts. I'm gonna look for a 300b amp next. The guy i bought them from was the original owner from 1983. and over the years put layers of poly urathane on them. I wanted to sand them and add some fresh stain. seems like that might not be to practical. Any thoughts how hard its to sand down the urothane These are in good shape but I much rather have a different (fresh stain). I'll be ording new grill cloth, binding posts and caps this week. figure I'll also rewire the connections too
  5. I wanted to find out if I can put a 2.2MH in place of the 2.4Mh on the B crossover for a cornwall? I just picked up some old cornwals with the original parts and have some 14 guage foil coils around Thanks Bob
  6. you said you hooked up the preamp, start out with the amp gain all the way down, then turn the preamp volume all the way up SLOWLY turn the gain up on the amp untill its verry loud. then use the the preamp volume to what ever volume you like
  7. verry good idea, does the bag fill around the horn over the top
  8. turn the amp gain pots down untill you get full cotrol with the preamp volume control, then you get the most out of both units
  9. If your contemplating a purchase, I have to let you know of the reputation of the company. From everyone involved they all say they are great amps. Now here comes the rest. Their are constant problems getting orders filled, shipped with correct parts and poor to no customer service once you gave your credit card. Do a search on the SET forum in Audio Asylum. This way you know what your getting into.... My personal experience was an incomplete parts order on a project I was working on, No response to my email and the back ordered 4 coupling capacitor showed up a month later. Needless to say that held up my project and I purchased them elseware (cheap lessson)
  10. I couldnt campare it to anything, I bought a 20oz can and sprayed it down enough for two speakers with some left over for a second coating of the horns only (Toninght I will add the second coat). It left a thin skin over the horn and inside cabinet. It did have a paint odor for about an hour then went away. Agion I cant copare but I can say it works and I'm happy. $15, I covered my crossover and sprayed away 10 min. Cant beat that.
  11. I just picked up and used some stuff called QUIET KOTE - VB1S PRO. From parts express. Its a spray on dampner made for spraying down car wheel wells and firewalls. Well I sprayed down the k55 horn and inside of the cabinet and this stuff works. DEAD, it imeadiatly knocked down the shout and extended ringing... These speakers keep getting better, who says they cant image. i get center sound almost as good as my magenpans with real uncollered bass to boot
  12. To add fuel to the fire, after being a CD guy for the last 10 to 15 years I started playing around with Vinyl again and have to agree that almost 100% of the same music (I have) on records sounds better than CD's. Just this weekend after listening to 1812 overture on digital, I was discusted and had to turn it off, I then fired up my old Empire rig and Kaboom. No comparison the cannons, bells and the rest of the music came alive. The CD is realy sounded compressed. From my understanding CD's are not complete they only store the 100% of the analog source on about 60% of their storage so therefore miss some harmonics found on the record (at least that was the way it was explained to me) This was the first time I herd that record on my Lascalla's I was blown away. No other speaker took that cannon the way the LS took it. I didnt even have to turn the volume down.
  13. These guys are so smart that if you respond or aska question they get you login id or other information without you knowing. I used to mess with these guy's by asking them a question then when they respond I tell them I have their IP adddress, service provider and now home account info that i'm turning over to the FBI, Also that me an my biker friends are coming over to thank him persnaly for trying to steel, so keep looking over your shoulder. But then I stopped becuse I learned that as soon as you resond or email they get your Info. I work in IT for a very large company and have been involved in internet fraud. so I speak from experience
  14. Yes, It means that when you draw 15 amps the circut breaker or fuse will blow. Now lets say you havea amp that puts out 50amps at 100 watts. Doesnt mean your fuse will blow, because their is transformer and capacitors that make the current after the draw from your circut. Meaning the amp might only draw 5 amps but put out 50. Basically look at the main fuses in all your equipment, You might have 3 for the cd, 2.5 for a tuner, 5 for a amp.so all operating at max still wont blow the circut. Hope that help Bob
  15. Got them from a Ebay guy in Peru....I was worried but no problems took about 5 days to get to me. $62..They poped the oter limits of the meter when I tested them before install What a deal
  16. I just got hold of a pr of siemans german Black plate single halo matched quads. They tamed the Horn's considerably from the JJ's I had in there. Nice even sound great definition of each instrument. I'm very happy It does seem that I lost some gain maybe 1.5db, but the amp has the extra juice if I want to turn it up (VTA70) Just wanted to hear what other are using in their amps. Thanks Bob

  18. Never herd anyone put a sub on shelf except for those tiny Computer ones. As far as floor placement if you have a phase control, it doesnt matter. Just tune the sub with that. If you dont have a phase control the way we used to do it, was to have the sub in one spot, then walk around the room until it sounds best. Then thats where you place the sub. By using a phase control , you can compensate for that practice. Sounds like you dont have the room for a sub, you just might be better without out if you dont have it already. I would have though the RF7's go pretty low
  19. I just receiently built new cabinet's for my vintage LS- Stock specs. I was wondering about adding an extra 1/2" to the sides and top. They sound great, but they vibrate and I figure that cant be good for the long haul.
  20. What kind of sub do you have? does it have a phase adjuster, WHats the frequency range? Whats your interpritation of Bass? First make sure you have the gain set correctly. Have someone turn it from 0 till you hear it slightly. Then adjust the the phase to tune it in, again you need someone to turn the phase control as you are in your listening position till it sounds best. Rememebr sub woofers are for under 100 so you realy dont hear it as much as it fills out the sound. You will never get pound in the chest from a subwoofer. You will get slight vibration, but dont expect to hear this sudenly pounding beat..
  21. To answer you question, if the wall's vibrate and you have a wall mount shelf -Yes it will affect the playback. I went through hell to get my VPI working corectly. Mine had spings. if you breathed it skiped. My father had told me movement in the air as you walk can also cause that effect. I built a 100LB TT stand with MDF shlevs and 2" oak legs with points to the floor. Then I cut 3 2-1/2" solid rubber balls in half placed them on the 2-1/4" thsick MDF top shelf then added a 1" marble base then my VPI TT. It helped, defenatly no hum or floor noise. Still had skipping when their was movement in the room. Took out the springs and put in the VPI JR sorbothane ft...No more problem. on a quick note - my empire 698 table I can almost jump up and down and it sounds great. In fact it just sits on top of a simple wood rack i made bewteen my LS and just play's Hmmmm $400 empire or $1700 tricked out VPI - makes you wonder
  22. Any elecronics in the signal path will affect sound, SS or Tube, being that Klipsch are HE you have a better slection of amps to choose from. The only thing I can think of to help you understnad the difference is its like the difference of walking into a room, Is it white, is it Red is it Blue.. same goes for amps. I have been a SS guy my whole life, but I always had ineficient speakers under 89db/spl per watt. Once I started playing around with single driver speakers and now Klipsh I find I like the tube sound. You can find a vintage EL84 amp or integrated for around $200. Give it a try if you like it, bring it up to spec it will get better. if not sell it To me trying different electronics (equipment, Tubes, cable's, speakers) is what make this a hobbie along with a pasion for music
  23. So it looks like I had it backward
  24. Can anyone tell me what the effeciency of the LS with the K43 is. I found out my pr had them instead of the K33. I was wondering because of the bad performance of my 2a3 amp. I measured the drivers they were all 5.9 to 6.1 ohm Thanks
  25. I have a pr of Magnepan MGIIIa's, At one point I had them biamped with Oddesey Mono amps on top 300/watts per and then a MC MC2205 200/watts per when cranking it up I know I was hitting the MC clipping lights at +3db 400watts, so efectivaly I was pumping 700 watts per chnannel into the magnepans with no hearable break up. In fact I have heard magie stories about them sucking up 1000 watts...and those speakers are amp critical..Thats why I love my new LS with my hot rooded ST70....35watts of Kick A sound
