  1. I'll tag along on what CLS72 said...Willy had the benefit of a rising economy, and was in long enough to enjoy the benefits of it. Look what has happened now...years of lousy policies are catching up to us. He got out just in time; good riddance! It's a shame that we still have to deal with that name up in this neck of the woods with a jr senator from NY. How can the public elect these people, over and over and over again?? Now I am depressed. I need my Forte IIs to make me better!
  2. A very happy belated 97th B-Day to Mr. Klipsch. Your passion and designs have influenced my family for nearly 15 years when my dad purchased his set of Fortes. I was hooked from that moment on. "I will own a set of Klipsch speakers, they will be mine," (said in my best Wayne's World voice." Seriously, ever since I heard the Fortes, I have been impressed with Klipsch and now, between dad and I, we own 1xForte I, 2xForte II, 3xKG1.2, 1xKG1.5, 2xKV-3 (dad liked my HT so much, he got one himself!) I wish you the very best and hope you have many more birthdays to celebrate. Looking forward to the Klipsch Fan Tour 2002!! Rob
  3. Boa- My KG 1.2s are direct radiating, (still can't keep dipole/monopole/etc straight). I sure like the situation I am in: 7-ch stereo is incredible and HT is too. I don't know if I am missing out on much by not having the "right" kind of surrounds, but until I get a HT-only room, this is how I will "survive." I'd have to do some serious listening tests to see if I'd want to upgrade from my Forte IIs. Who knows, maybe the Jubilee will start me on that path...
  4. I agree with what blklab said. That is how I set up my sub, PW-2200. I placed it in my listening position, moved around the room, no sound meter needed, as I could tell a "hot spot" when I found one. Best location was about even with my sofa, 4' away from prime location, firing towards the front speakers, along a 14' wall, about 3.5' from the back wall. An added benefit: the love seat sits in front of the sub and it rumbles with movies and music. Kinda cool!
  5. I'll throw my $0.03 in. When I got my PW-2200, I went straight with Audioquest Sidewinder, 9m, with subwoofer kit. I wasn't terribly impressed with Monster quality, and while the AQ was expensive, about $130 I think, I have been impressed. Haven't tried any of the others, but very pleased with what I have.
  6. Boa- I have got the 4800/5200 combo and I have my speakers set up so that surround L/R are in "B" position, and surround back are in "A" position. Both pairs are KG 1.2s, matched with Forte II/KV-3 up front, and Paradigm PW-2200 sub and I love my system. It would be great to have that second set of "A" speakers, but my HT is set up on one side of a 16x24 family room, so there is no wall to mount the speaker on the right hand wall. I have the 5200 driving the Forte IIs and the 4800 driving the center and all surrounds. I must admit, 7-ch stereo is quite impressive with this set-up. I am so glad the Denon has that setting, where I can pipe music to all speakers natually, and not have it distorted by some DSP mode as my old Pro Logic receiver did. While it may not be completely correct; surrounds "should" be dipoles (I still don't completely understand that, but it might be because I haven't heard an A/B comparison) I am very pleased with both music and HT use. Hope this helps. Rob
  7. Bev- Trading painting for speakers? How can I get in on that deal? Too bad you are in TN! Congrats on the telethon!
  8. Steve- Gone...as in did you pick them up??? Bev- Are you really on the look-out for another pair? I'd say it's become an obsession with you. BTW, I hope your radio telethon went good.
  9. Boa- After further review, looks like I have the same SA Explorer box you do; all the digital, s-video, etc outs that I could need. But I stick with coax for now until more stations start broadcasting in 5.1. As far as the Big 12 tourney goes, looks like KU will have something to prove over your 'clones. Bet you and the g/f have great arguments as to who to root for...
  10. Myram- Sounds like a plan! Would be fun to do a road trip, though it would be a long one. I guess a vehicle would be good in case any purchases are made. Now I just gotta convince the wife to go along.
  11. All- I am VERY envious! Please, PLEASE count me in on the next pilgrimage to Hope! I am going through all the pictures now and living vicariously through all who made the journey. As George C mentioned earlier, it took a lot to keep me away this year, and if there is a "next time" I'll sign up for vacation now! It is quite rare and wonderful in this age of big business to have a company like Klipsch, who not only host this incredible BBS, but then to entertain people from all around the country and obviously treat them well. Glad I am part of the Klipsch family. Oh, and last weekend, the Weather Channel was interviewing someone, forget the location, but they had a Klipsch baseball hat on!!! I see a "Where's Klipsch?" campaign ala "Where's Waldo?" in the future!?!
  12. Tom- Yep, sounds like we have the same kinda problem. Our house is in new subdivision, good cable, only 4 outlets activated (though cable modem comes next month), upgraded interconnects, etc. Thanks for the advice there, when the cable modem guy comes out in mid-March, I'll have him check the output levels. My TV is a '93 vintage ProScan 27". While not up to today's luxury standards, I am still pleased with it, and will hang onto it until I figure out what I want from HDTV. Boa- AND dating a girl from MU??? Well at least you are keeping it in the Big 12 family! I had thought about working some digital coax cables, but I spend more time on the analog channels and want that signal to get better first. From what I remember, there are only coax connections on the back of the digital box, so the RCA thing wouldn't work. Thanks for your additional thoughts though, I think this whole thing will be a work in progress until I find the tweaks that work. And by that time, HDTV will be ready and I can do it all over again.
  13. Toots- Ok, thanks for the advice. I will do some more digging around and see. That's really what I was searching for...personal testimonials from real people who use these products. Thanks! Boa- Ouch. Now you ruined my day That was a tough game...I hope with you in KS that you are a KU fan and not an ISU fan... Guess the cable folks have us over a barrel...if we don't want to pay the extra for a dish, then we get stuck with lousy quality. That's just a bunch to have to spend (especially on satellite equipment) and still not get "local" stations without forking over another $5-10 for that. Hopefully someone will figure out this HDTV thing before long and the consumer will get a product worthy of all the hype. For now, I'll stick with my 27" ProScan, lousy cable, and put the money into DVDs.
  14. Ah, I see, now I understand. Well, I did see one of the large (4 ft) banners that Klipsch made on eBay a while back. Would have looked nice in the den...got outbid at the last minute. Well, maybe another will surface...
  15. Count me in...if there was a list of your items, it would make things easier. Myram- If you want, shoot me an email with your addy and I can make a copy of my brochure that has all the Quartet specs in it and pass it along.
  16. Ray- My problems are on the analog channels that Toots has so eloquently mentioned. There is more snow/ghosts/etc that I would like. Toots is right, all the analog channels are the ones below channel 100, which is kind of false advertising; I signed up for great picture clarity, but I am not getting it. The digital channels have great picture, but there usually isn't that much that I want to see on DIY, or History International, etc. Toots- Thanks for the link, I'll go and check it out. Why wouldn't you work with a booster? does it make that much impact? One thing I haven't done is to complain to the cable folks, to see if there is anything they can do for starters. John- Ok, thanks, we have one down the street, so I'll take a look this week and see what it looks like.
  17. All- Ok, here is a question for the techies in the group. Wife and I jumped on the digital cable bandwagon a couple of months ago. Overall, not a bad experience, but not quite as pleasant as we thought. At any rate, we are experiencing quite a bit of signal degradation, such that we get some pretty lousy pictures at times. We have the one main cable line into the house, and we have all 4 bedrooms, the family room, and the kitchen wired, but currently only have TVs in the family room, kitchen and MBR. The kitchen/MBR signals run straight from the wall to the TV (MBR has a pretty long cable run), but the family room runs from the wall, into the digital decoder, to the VCR, and finally to the TV. My question is if there are any good amplifiers I can buy (Rat Shack or other manufacturer) that would help boost the signal and about how much they are? Thanks for all the help. Rob
  18. I have to throw my $0.02 with all the Whitney Houston fans, er, haters. I used to work in a department store in the early 90's and the Musac we had to pipe in was God-awful. As the only "rocker" in the place, when I was opening or closing, filling out the night's recipts, etc, the local rock station got tuned in. I had the joy of working there when "Bodyguard" came out, so her theme song, "I will always love yooouuuuuu" was big on all the airways. Sometimes I got lucky enough to hear it 3-4 times over a 12-hour shift! Enough to drive someone postal! Even now, I can't listen to ANYTHING from Whitney!
  19. As far as I am concerned, Sound Distributors is a-ok. I bought my Denon POA-5200 from them and it arrived no problems. Good prices, sealed box, etc. I don't know how they handle Klipsch and any warranties, but so far (knock on wood) I have been pleased with my purchase. Hope it helps.
  20. Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but I was laughing hard with this! I bought my Forte IIs when I was in an apartment, little 700 sq ft thing, middle floor. I didn't have the aforementioned Q-tips living nearby, but I got two complaints for noise, one of which said, and this is a direct quote "The base on your stereo is too loud." Duh, that's why I got em! Off to a house I went. Now, after two additional moves (thanks to the Air Force) I now live on 1.25 acres, nearly in the sticks, and can crank to my heart's content! I love my Klipsch!
  21. Lou- I have the Denon 4800 and POA-5200 combo teamed up with Klipsch Forte IIs/KV-3 across the front, two pair of KG 1.2s for surround L/R/Center and a Paradigm PW2200. They are in a family room that is 16'x40' with a cathedral ceiling, but they are placed such that my seating area is looking across the shorter dimension, with the Forte's on either side about 8' away from the TV. One pair of the KG 1.5s is placed on speaker stands on either side of the sofa just in front of the main listening area. The second pair are on stands behind the sofa, about 6' apart. I have a love seat perpendicular to the sofa in front of the surround 1.5 and the PW2200 fires towards it (great bass rumbles in that seat!) Now after all that, I must say I am very impressed with the 5.1 output of the 4800/5200 combo. It fills the room with crystal clear sound with very little effort (love the Klipsch efficiency). I was excited about buying a "future-proof" system and could justify spending the money for it. Had the AVR-5800 been out, I might have thought about that one, but spending the extra $1000 would have been hard. I just picked up a copy of Toy Story II, so I am interested in how it does with THX-EX, but I haven't had any other DVDs at home yet that have the THX-EX capability. With this limited exposure, I can't conclude that EX is the best thing since sliced bread, but having the extra 2 speakers for 5.1 is quite nice, and it's incredible in 7ch stereo. My wife, while she enjoys our system, but doesn't share my passion (she thinks the Forte's need some knick-knacks on that horizontal space) had a very interesting experience about a month ago. We were watching X-Men and she was on the love seat and The Frog did his tongue thing from the back left speaker to the front left "over" her head. She nearly freaked out. I just smiled and said "Now you understand my fun?" She does, but still isn't as passionate. The Denon 4800 will do you quite proud! Mwiener- Thanks for the heads-up on the DVD-2800. I bought the DVD-2500 in Dec '99 and have been very impressed with its quality. I am not sure if it is progessive scan, so I'll check out the manual. I am a bit fuzzy on the benefits of progressive scan, but I seem to remember that with the "enhanced for widescreen" or "anamorphic" DVDs, mine should support it. Any advice would be great. I had heard that the latest models from Denon, the DVD-1500, etc were a bit lower in quality than the -2500, -3000, and -5000. Any thoughts? Rob
  22. Um, er, sorry Seb, I meant Boa...can I plead insanity from all this lousy pop music????
  23. How about our favorite mall-rat, Tiffany??? "I think we're alone now..." Or then there are the Milli-Vanilli boys who were so bad, they weren't allowed to sing themselves. Or Vanilla Ice "Ice, ice, baby." In fact, that whole rap genre makes me head for the bathroom, stiffling a technicolor yawn. And finally, our dear Whitney Houston...Even now, I can't stand "IIIII, willll allwwaaayyssss looovvvveee yyyooouuuuu!" Seb- I agree with you..."It's better to burn out, than fade away!" KU grad here!
