  1. For your Summer hot weather drinking, may I suggest Big Boss Angry Angel? It's one of my favorite warm weather beers. Not to mention the Big Boss Brewery is in Raleigh. They have a brewery tour each month. You should join us sometime. (have a designated driver[])
  2. If you're willing to consider used or discontinued products, you can get a pretty incredible setup for your budget. I have about $2000 in speakers in my system so far - two RF-7 mains, RC-7 center, and RS-62 surrounds. The RF-7s were new, but discounted on clearance having been discontinued. The RC-7 was was a B-stock I found on eBay, but looks and functions perfect. I pieced the system together a bit at a time as I found bargains. I'll eventually add some rear speakers and a sub when I find what I want at a good price. I'm holding out for some RB-75 for the rear, but so far the only ones I've found have come along when I didn't have the money to spare. Eventually. You can find some good deals on here. I've had great luck buying from forum members in the past, and I feel safer doing business online here than most places. Edit to add: The system you have listed sounds like a great combination, but I also think the RC-64 would be a great upgrade.
  3. Excellent choice! I'm a George Dickel man, myself. But I do enjoy the Gentleman Jack. My father's name was Jack Daniel, and my mother was born in Tullahoma, TN (home of George Dickel distillery). I guess it's fate. Not that I'm complainging, mind you. []
  4. Well said. I think the worst impact "modern mobile audio" has had is that people have taken an attitude of "good enough." Sure, an MP3 is compressed, but I can carry 300 albums on my iThing! I don't care if what I'm listening to is top quality because it's just backround music anyway. I don't think most people even understand what critical listening is anymore. To me, nothing moves me as much as music that sounds so lifelike you can close your eyes and see in your mind where every musician is. A loud rock beat, room filling organs, or a solitary trumpet.... when it sounds *real* it becomes so much more than just backround music. I don't think most people appreciate that difference, or even care. GoGo Gadgets!
  5. So, there are lots of options for $2000. How about closer to $1000? I'm considering as much as $2000 because I don't want to miss the possibility for something a lot better for just a bit more money, rather than saying $1000 or $1500 firm. And for $1600, I find the Epik Conquest interesting, but I have to admit that's mainly because it's friggin huge. [] LOL I'm just trying to educate myself and see what my options are. I need to soundproof my media room before adding the sub to keep the neighbors happy. []
  6. $2000 Used is fine. A Cherry RSW-15 is the top of my list for obvious reasons. I'd like to keep the price closer to $1000, but will consider more depending on what I'm getting for my money.
  7. I'll be adding a sub to my home theater as my next upgrade and am looking for some suggestions on what would work well with my system. My current setup is: Front: RF-7 / RC-7 Surround: RS-62 Pre/Pro: Outlaw 970 Amp: Outlaw 7500 The obvious choice would be an RSW-15, but those are hard to find and from what I've heard, some parts are no longer available so if they need service, it may not be possible with OEM parts. I use the system primarily for movies, but music is also important. Probably 60-70% movies. Any ideas on what would match well for this? Budget isn't really determined yet, but I'll say $2000 at the outside.
  8. What you need is a QSC PLX2402 pro amp to drive the RF-7s. 425W / ch at 8Ω, and 2Ω stable ... at 1200W / ch. [H] I have one I've been saving for when I upgrade from 5 to 7.1. I'm running everything on my Outlaw 7500 now, but once I add rear speakers, I'll run everything but the mains off the 7500 and put the RF-7s on my QSC. I ran it in a stereo steup for a while before I got the Outlaw and it's an amazing amp. It pretty much laughs at anything you can throw at it. Also, it's a very good sonic match for the RF-7. They just get along well together. The RF-7 has an impedence dip that can stress some amps, but the 2Ω stability of the QSC means it doesn't even blink at any impedence changes. I see them on ebay all the time, usually in the $300-$600 range.
  9. I have a Motorola Droid and I love it. Much like the Mac/PC debate, it will probably come down to preference on the hardware. Both are essentially tiny palm sized computers that can make phone calls. Both can be programed to do pretty much whatever you want. The differences are mainly in the service. Apple has more apps, but a more locked down app store. Android is more open. You can even get porn apps on Android - something Apple forbids. Not as many apps available, but it has the potential to grow faster and overtake Apple before long. Big advantage for the iPhone is it's iPod interface. Everyone makes docks, mounts, adapters, speakers, etc. for the iPod docks. Droid only has a headphone output. The primary difference in your actual user experience will probably be more dependent on service than the hardware. For me, not being on ATT was a major reason to go with Verizon and the Droid. I would have had a hard time deciding between the two if they were both available on Verizon. I knew I made the right decision when I decided I'd want a Droid even if it WASN'T a phone. I use the other stuff with the apps, email, GPS, etc. more than I use the phone. The physical keyboard is also a major plus in my book.
  10. I've read that Obama has put a moratorium on new off shore oil leases. Other updates have said they've lost the well head, and that's not something they've had to deal with before. Normally, this type of disaster wouldn't have been a big deal - from an oil spill perspective. We lot many platforms when Katrina and Rita hit, but no major spills because the well heads did their job and shut off the flow. Now they're saying if it reaches the Gulf Stream, it could wind it's way around to the East Coast. I think this is going to end up making Valez look like a drop in the bucket before it's over.
  11. Do it the way the theater does, use a 2.35:1 screen with masking/curtains on the sides for showing lower aspect ratio material.
  12. I like the PWK and Oval logo with the "V" the best. Either a black shirt with copper/gold embrodery or a copper colored shirt with black embrodery would be my first choices. The current logo looks good with the POWER. DETAIL. EMOTION. line below it. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
  13. Off topic, I'm also a big MwC fan. One of my favorite episodes was the one where Al and Steve restore a Mustang convertible. [H]
  14. Nah, if it were an April Fool's joke, he would have bought a Bose Lifestyle system. []
  15. The only way to find out for sure is to listen to your speakers in your listening room and see how it sounds. The Outlaws offer their 30 day in-home trial for just this reason. Buy one, try it out, and if you don't like it, they'll refund your money. http://www.outlawaudio.com/support/guarantee.html
  16. Wow! $280 shipped is a SCREAMING deal on an Outlaw 750! I think I paid $80 just for shipping when I bought my Outlaw 7500. I think you'll be happy with the 750. I'm running my RF-7 based HT with the 7500 and it sounds great.
  17. http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/transports/high-definition-dvd-players-hd-dvd-blu-ray/lexicon-bd-30-blu-ray-oppo-clone/oppo-inside-lexicon-outside-1 So very busted.
  18. I went with the N460. We'll see how it does when it shows up.
  19. So far I've been able to find out: n460 is newer than the s560 and is priced between the s360 and s560. n460 includes streaming internet video (Bravia internet content) - s560 doesn't s560 has wireless LAN - n460 doesn't Other than that, I haven't found any real differences between them.
  20. Those are the only 3 BD players I have to choose from. It's one of them or nothing. The PS3 would be my second choice behind the Oppo. If it were an option, I'd jump at it.
  21. Buying someone else's points is a good idea, but unfortunately it takes 2-6 weeks for the transfer to go through and I have a deadline of 1/31 to use or lose all of my points. One of these can hold me over until I get the Oppo, then I can sell it to one of my friends who don't have BD yet. That or I'll just wait for the Oppo and use the points to buy some computer upgrades.
  22. How soon do you want to upgrade? Check out the Outlaw 997. http://outlawaudio.com/products/997.html It was supposed to come out in 2009 and has been pushed back repeatedly, but should be coming out "soon." Introductory price is supposed to be around $1399 and they have a 30 day guarantee so you can try it out in your home for 30 days and if you don't like it you can return it. I'm running an Outlaw 990 right now and will likely upgrade to the 997 when it comes out. I don't think the 997 does height speakers, but it does have a built in Trinnov Optimizer.
  23. I've got a bonus program through work where we get points to redeem for merchandise. (yeah, basically Greenstamps). Anyway, they some Blu-Ray players that I have enough points to get, but I'm not sure which one to go with. I have a limit of 1400 points. The players they have in that range are: Sony BDP-N460 Sony BDP-S560 Sharp AQUOS BD-HP22U Those are all between 1300-1400 points. They even have the Oppo BDP-83, unfortunately it's 3500 points and the program is ended on 1/31/10, so I have to spend what I have on something by then or lose them. I just started doing some research on these models, but if anyone has any recommendations, let me know. What a shame I can't save up more points for later. If I had 31,000 - I could get a John Deere Tractor. []
  24. I've read that before. It sounds like to me the "smell" of space is actually the smell of the materials exposed to space oxiding. In Low Earth Oribt, there's atomic Oxygen floating about (single Oxygen atom - not O2). Since Oxygen doesn't like to exist as a single atom, it will bond with just about anything - that is, just about anything it comes in contact with will oxidize to some extent.
