  1. WVU80, My zip is 20817. Klipsch forum members price is $750 ($850 everywhere else). These are absolutely great speakers and, although I personally don't like to listen loud, you are right in that they play clean at even extreme volumes. I know many here will gladly drop $800 - $1000 on Cornwalls, or $1,000 - $1,500 for Lascalas, or $2,000 to $3,000 for Khorns, but maybe little uncertain about dropping $750 for DIY speaker - but I promise you - you will not be a disappointment. Bill Waslo is a very much respected designer in the DIY community. The crossover was well designed and provides a seamless integration between SEOS and the TD15. This speaker has a performance/price ratio.
  2. I have speakers based on the following design by Bill Waslo: http://libinst.com/SEOS/SEOS15/SEOS1...5%20design.pdfParts, including wood, cost me $1,150. I'm asking $850 in other forums - I'll accept $750 from fellow Klipsch forum members. I just don't think you can get similar performance anywhere near that price. They were constructed with 3/4 Baltic birch. I did not apply a finish - so the new owner can stain/finish to their liking. If you are not local, I may be able to ship the parts. If you are interested in parts (AE-TD15M-8ohm, B&C DE250, SEOS 15 Horn), let me know. PM me for pictures
  3. I'm interested in the sub plate amp if you don't mind shipping Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Skillz, They are about 55" tall. The main tube section is 24" in diameter and the wood pieces are approximately 27" in diameter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Thanks fella. I think its a good deal for someone local. These were never pushed hard. People would come over and think I some sort of bass freak just because of their size and because of the way they look :-) But truthfully, I never cared to listen to them loud. In fact, I don't like my movies loud. That being said, I immensely enjoyed these subwoofers. People don't realize how much low-frequency presence there is in movies. Even at low volumes, if there is a scene where there is background thunder, you could feel it in the room (even at low volumes).
  6. I have a pair of DIY Sonosub Subwoofers that I built about 7 or 8 years back. Each subwoofers contains a 15" TC-Sounds TC-2000 4ohm SVC subwoofer. These are passive subwoofers - you will need your own amp. I'm going off memory, but I believe they are 320liters of internal volume and are tuned to about 14Hz. I paid nearly $350+shipping for each subwoofer at the time. I also paid a $100+ for the 24" sonotube. I seen people sell old SVS passive subs for $300. Don't know what is a fair price, but I was thinking $250/each of $450pair.
  7. Just reading through this thread now. It's amazing how much of my experience has matched Dean's comments above. I upgraded my stock Klipschorn with Volti 2" Horn, plus BMS drivers and ALK ES Crossovers. Don't get me wrong - there was definitely an improvement in sound, but its was mostly experienced at high volumes. I can't remember the cost now but I think the Volti Horns were $600+/-, plus $1,300-$1,400 for BMS Drivers, plus $1,500 for ALK ES Crossover. I mean, you are talking about nearly $3,500 in upgrades. If I had a gathering at my place and we were listening to the system at loud volume, everyone enjoyed the effortless sound. At low to moderate levels (i.e., my normal listening level), I'm not sure if the improvement was easily observed. I mean you had to be listening to the music with a very critical ear to be able to detect improvement. You almost have to be looking for the improvement - which can take the whole joy out of the main objective: enjoying the MUSIC. I eventually ended up selling all my upgrades and appreciated having the dollars in my hand than to have all that money tied up in a system where I rarely got a chance to enjoy my investment. If you want to go the 2" route, and have the money, and enjoy tinkering around with your system - then it can be a fun journey. My comments are not meant to discourage anyone. I'm merely just sharing my experience - any by sharing my experience, I'm hoping it may help others set their expectations. My last comment is that if I had to do my system all over again, I would expend my energy on learning about room acoustics and use my money there. Going back to my system above, I'm sure that I would have achieved a greater improvement in sound if I had invested the aforementioned $3,500 in learning/implementing room treatment than upgrading various speaker components. Again, that comment is based on my experience, with my system, in my room.

  9. Sorry CECAA850, That is for the pair. I'll make the update.
  10. Hi All, Any interest here for a pair of Acoustic Elegance TD15H drivers? They are well reviewed for their excellent power handling, high x-max, lower inductance, etc..My price is $475 (pair) +shipping. New, they are $700+shipping (and few months wait). 11. Hi All, Just bumping this thread. Though I am still enjoying my Merlin, I'm hoping to raise some funds for my next purchase (a Laguna 14/12 Bandsaw). As previously mentioned, the Merlin is in 100% functional condition and 99% cosmetic condition (the 1% removed just in case I miss anything). Price, as previously mentioned, is $625+shipping. I'm willing to take Woodcraft giftcard as partial trade :-)
  12. Sorry, I do not. These are "e-cards" that can be used online as well as in store. There are two $100 gift card and one $50 gift card. Ideally, I would like to sell as a set. I have perfect feedback on Audiogon and E-bay if that helps. If we can talk over the phone, I'm happy to share one gift card info, prior to receiving payment if that helps. 13. I have a $250 HD gift card that I am considering selling. I actually want to sell it so I could purchase Lie-Nielsen Jack Plane, which is obviously not for sale via Home Depot. I was thinking if anyone here would be interested for $225. I know it's not much of a discount, but if someone was considering making a large purchase from HD during the Cyber Monday/Christmas season (tools, snow blower for winter, mdf, glue for speaker builds , etc.), this would be a convenient way to save an additional 10%. I can easily see myself using it, but I'm in the mood for some LN hand tools. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I was checking them out too, but I much prefer Walnut as well.
  15. CECCAA850, If I follow what you suggested about using a sub with high-level inputs, do you know whether the high-level output will then be "hi-passed" at the selected frequency? Or does the output signal remain full range?
  16. CECAA, No - haven't tried it yet. After browsing through the various threads here, I'm tempted to put together another full range system. I currently own a pair of Oris Horns (w/ Tang Band drivers) sitting idle. I plan on building bass cabinets for the horns. Will need to introduce an active crossover for that setup. I'm hoping I can find one with an input impedance greater than 50K ohms. Specifically, I am thinking about building a pair of Jubilee-like bass bins. It will take me well over a year to finish (since I lack the craftsmanship skill so many of the fellow forum members possess). I'll plan on building a quick bass reflex box in the interim (nothing fancy) so I can go back to a full-range setup. Should be a fun project. D
  17. I believe so JL Sargent. It moved to another forum member after JWC before I purchased it. I might try what CECAA suggested. I'm going to see if I can move my sub back into my 2-channel rig from my home theater. After I learned it couldn't use it with the Merlin as I had planned, I moved the sub into my home theater and continued using my bookshelf speaker without the sub. Now I'm curious to bring my 150lbs+ subwoofer back upstairs and try as CECAA suggested.
  18. babadono, You are correct - I've updated my post. Thanks for the correction. D
  19. Cecaa850, I had thought about doing that, but I get concerned whether it will degrade the audio quality any. I've never used a sub's high-level input. Perhaps it's worth trying.
  20. Hi All, Available for sale is my Juicy Music Merlin - the "Hot Rod" Version. I bought it here from a fellow forum member. It is easily a 9.5/10 on the Audiogon scale. Many of you already know how sought after the Merlin is, especially the hot-rod version. Why am I selling: I had sold my large speaker many months ago and have been using Bamberg 2TM bookshelf speakers for the past several months. The -3db point on the Bamberg is 80hz. Clearly, they were meant to be used with subs. I was hoping to use a "Y-spliter" from the Merlin to (i) my main amp, and (i) the Bash500 amp installed in my sub. However, before I even got to that point, I was told by Mark that the Merlin with meant for amplifiers with an input impedance of greater than 50K ohm. That's clearly not an issue when connecting to my Plinius SA-100MKIII (which has an input impedance of 100K ohm), but won't work with my BASH500 amp (which has an input impedance of 20K ohm). I thought about introducing an active crossover in the middle (e.g., the Behringer DCX2496 I currently own) but even the input impedance on that is 20 K ohm. So, to get full range sound, I would either have to (i) buy another active crossover, (i) build another subwoofer and utilize an amp with input impedance greater than 50ohm, or (iii) purchase larger speakers again. To avoid doing the above and incurring additional costs, I'm now considering the selling the Merlin and going back to my previous preamp.. My asking price is $625+shipping.
