  1. Thebes and I have nothing to gain here, if you had a Porsche would you put cheap oil in it or low octane fuel? You've got very nice gear and it truly deserves the opportunity to unleash its true potential...test drive a few tubes before buying then you'll know what to buy...everyone has their preference, I like Bugle Boys, others like Mullards and others Telefunkens and so on and so forth...doesn't mean any is better just personal taste...I'd trust Thebes with my new turntable and that says alot.

I have to agree with Gary. I just rolled a pair of Amperex Bugle Boy 12ax7s into my Jolida player (level 1) and it made a world of difference. I have tried Telefunken and Mullard 12ax7s but the Bugle Boys really make the cornwalls sing. Wonderful mids and highs and the bass improved so much I don't even think about using the subs. The player sounds great with the Scott.

  2. Went to see the movie AVATAR in 3D........................This was in a Regal Theater that uses Klipsch Speakers. The Movie in this New 3D format is an Awesome Experience.

Well worth the time and Money for all the Visual and audio Experience ! I want to go back again just to see the Scenery , colors and sound !

A truly edge of your Seat experience !Yes

It reminded me a lot of the Aztec, Mayan experience with the Spaniards. A lot of cliché moments in the film but with the Klipsch surround system still worth the price of the ticket. I enjoyed it.
  3. Right now I have my subs hooked up from the pre-outs of my two-channel preamp (music only).

What is the difference, if there is one, hooking it up this way compared to hooking it up through the speaker connections on the back of the sub?

My intent is two-channel music listening only.

    Thanks guys,

    -Scott.

This is what Velodyne says about my F-1500's: "If your processor has a 'subwoofer out' jack on it, in most cases it is best not to use it for connecting your Velodyne. By do so, you will be combining the cross-over of he Velodyne with the cross-over of the processor. This can result in low gain and increased noise. Instead, we suggest that you connect your Velodyne between the main or front speaker outputs of your processor and the amplifier that will drive them. This will generally give you the best results."

  4. Just now experimenting with tube amplifiers and have a question. Is there really any difference in tubes from different manufacturers, ie. Telefunken, Mullard, Genalex, etc.? My guess is that an EL34 tube must be manufactured to certain specifications to operate in an amp designed for that class of tube. Hoping some of you experienced tube afficionados will be able to explain why someone would pay large amounts of money for a certain tube. Thanks in advance to all who choose to respond.

  5. If accurate, then have always simply pulled the disk I want to play and put it into my cd or dvd player. I guess I'm a simpleton Big Smile

Whenever I want to make a cd or two of mixed songs, I rip the selected songs to wav files and burn the cd's. I converted many of my vinyl records to wav files using Cool Edit Pro many years ago. As you can imagine, I had several external hard drives storing the material.

  6. That is why many people find grammatical errors so irritating. The use of there i/o their, your i/o you're, etc. causes the reader to stop to analyze what really is being said. Editors exist for that very reason. Publishers don't want to annoy there readers.

The use of "there" i/o "their" causes you to wander. Write?

    Right, "wonder." [:)]

Don't feel badly. Other languages are even worse.

  7. Juicy Music Merlin does IMO have the fabulous sound of the Peach and BlueBerry without all the bells and whistles.

The Juicy Music Merlin sounds just like what I need. I'm looking for the tube sound with the Cornwalls and will be using the Stage One for gain so I only need something simple with great sound. Now to see if I can find something. Thanks a lot.

  8. I love my Wright WLA12, loved the Peach as well.

Thanks for the info on the preamp. I checked them out on the web and it looks interesting. My only concern is George's health problems. I wonder if the company will continue if he decides to get out of the business due to his health? Maybe it is so well built that I won't have to worry about any problems?

  9. Good morning. I am looking for recommendations for a tube preamp to use in a two-channel configuration with my Cornwall IIIs. The preamp will be connected to my Aragon Stage One (stereo direct) and from there to the Aragon 2007 (SS). I would like to spend under $1,000, if possible. I would appreciate your comments. Thanks.

  10. Does anyone have a reason why I should not do this for the time being? I don;t have the original boxes for those, but I am thinking about wraping up my RF-7' before I box them too; any reason I shouldn't?

Mold can sometimes form on things wrapped in plastic. I used to wrap my outdoor lawn furniture in plastic and had to go to storing them in the garage because of a mold problem. Not saying this will happen to the speakers; just throwing it out for consideration.

  11. First, the cat. Let her get into it at full rewind and if she keeps her claws, she'll leave it alone from then on

Unfortunate news is that the oxide coming off will pretty rapidly affect the sound of your tapes, you'll notice an HF loss first. If you have some that are particularly sheddy it's probably best to transfer onto a CD-R before they become unplayable. Defeats the object of the RTR I know.

LOL. Seems we have come full circle. Back to watching the reels go around and dumping the R2R to CD. [*-)] R2R machines are still fun but, when you do find some high quality tapes, do convert them to something that you will have as a backup. Enjoy the machine.

  12. I certainly second the DBX which, properly set, will eliminate the tape hiss entirely. If dynamic range compression is evident, a bit more will really improve

Dave, poorly stated on my part. I meant high res relative to the normal 128. Agree 100% on the 24/88.2 and certainly good enough for me not to have to wrestle with the tapes. Thanks for clarifying.

    Frank

  13. Jon, unless you already have a lot of r2r tapes, it becomes more the joy of watching the reels spin around as you enjoy your new toy. I used a DBX unit to copy all of my tapes to high res MP3s and got rid of the machines. Much easier ways to deal with good quality music nowadays.

  14. Once again I turn to the wise ninjas of the Klipsch Forums.

I have a Yamaha HTR 5730 A/V reviever and I would like to hook up an old turntable that has been laying around. It is a technics SL DD 22, it has the two RCA jacks coming out of it and a single wire. I am not sure if my reciever will accept this or where to plug it into, and what is up with the single wire, an antenna, just kidding, I know that isnt what it is.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, as always.

Your 5730 doesn't have a phono preamp so you'll have to use a separate phono preamp if you want to use the turntable. They don't cost too much. Single wire is used to elimate hum if you get some.

  15. Hey Pronex, what receiver/amp are you using?

It's a yamaha htr-5940 . Nothing special. I purchased it well before I even thought about buying klipsch. It was powering my much much lower end speakers. It's amazing how well the klipsch speakers still sound even with this weaker receiver. This is going to be my next upgrade. Any suggestions? Im thinking of spending about 500-600 for it.

Depending on the size of your room, check out the HK 254 or 354. Great sounding receiver

  16. Does anyone own this receiver? I'm thinking, just thinking, about selling my Pioneer to get this one. I am totally digging the sound of my PA 2100 I just picked up, but at the same time, Id hate to sell my Pioneer, which I love, and get the AVR 354, and there not be much of a sound difference. Thoughts???

Get the HK 254 and use it (pre out) in conjunction with the Pioneer (It does have 7.1 input, doesn't it?). That way you have full use of both. The BluRay can be connected to the HK. You'll love the HK for clarity of sound and HDMI capability. Inexpensive way out too.

  17. i am thinking about this because i may kick my onkyo to the curb and get emotiva's new processor and some kind of amp for the front 3 speakers. i would use the lpa-1 to power the 4 rear RS-42's. i know it will be over kill, but who cares....lol. if you have seen my ET center you will know i only have room for 2 amps only. unless there is some kind of mono block that will stack 3 high in the same place.

If you want to get rid of the Onkyo, I would get the XPA-3 for the 3 front speakers and use the other Emotiva amp for the surrounds. My opinion, I would not run a separate cable to the HFE on the RF-7. You can easily blow the tweeters. My understanding is that the max is 100 watts and that is living dangerously. Keep the HFE and LFE terminals bridged together on the 7's. Just my opinion.
