  1. Here is a pic Ok I am having no luck posting images so how do I master this feat? Do they need to be hosted somewhere or can someone post them for me.
  2. Easy now I didn't say they were hooked up. The Bose was from a darker time in my life when I didn't know about Klipsch. I guess I need to look for a 2 channel receiver with inputs for the IPod and maybe cd/dvd player. I check at the local Salvational Army Thrift Store. The wife will freak out when I bring another piece of equipment home. Guess I'll have to sneak it in. Maybe I'll let her have the Bose for her classroom or trade it to someone unsuspecting. BTW I forgot to mention there are no badges on these so I will have to get some eventually when I am closer to finished with them.
  3. I do plan on looking for a receiver but not for a while. It will be a month or two before the restoration work will take place. The back (rear) edges of the cabinet and backs of the speakers all match the rest of the finish that's on there and trust ne they ain't black. The backs I may not do anything to since they won't be seen. Not to mention I don't want to mess up the stickers from Klipsch. It's funny because I was telling a guy about them today and he already wanted to take them off my hands sight unseen. Thanks for the tips with the sanding my dad has a random orbital sander and some of the sanding discs so that will be easy. There are a few chips but nothing major so I shouldn't have to reband them. I was thinking anbout so of the wood putty that is sandable and paintable from Minwax as well as a Walnut stain from them. Would you use a stipper to get the finish off or just sand it off? I have seen Groomlakearea51's work and it is out of this world.
  4. The wife hasn't killed me yet. We shall see if I am allowed back in the house after my lodge meeting tonight. They work but are in the need of TLC. I was thinking about stripping the finish off and using a little filler and staining them Walnut. I have no idea if I should strip and stain the backs and if I do how do I protect the labels on them? They work but have a lot of dust on the woofers. It will be a while before I can work on them in the basement because it draws moisture so it will be closer to summer before I can work on them. Right now I would like to listen to them and the only way I can is to hook them up to a Bose system and the speakers plug into the sub. Would this be safe to do? Here is alittle more info from a previous post. Pics will be in a few days. Now here is what I know about the speakers they are HBR 147X889 and HBR 147X890. So if my research is right I know that means Heresy Birch Raw made in 1982? and the serial number are 889 and 890? Am I right? I was wondering instead of refinishing with veneer if I could stip the finish off that is on them and use some light color wood filler if needed. It's a light color and use a Walnut stain on them and replace the grill cloth with something like this http://www.grillecloth.com/pages/gallery.php It's the Philco pattern 5. Thought or suggestions? Thanks
  5. I never shot any slide film only print. I can tell you one thing and that is the slide film is a lot less forgiving than print film but when it's done right wow does it look fantastic. It's sad to see that film is slowly fading away. My dad still has photos he took in college and he is 74 now. Black and white mostly but man what an art form.
  6. H HA HAP HAPP HAPPY HAPPY B HAPPY BI HAPPY BIR HAPPY BIRT HAPPY BIRTH HAPPY BIRTHD HAPPY BITRHDA HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
  7. There is a botle of single malt in it for me if I am willing. Not worth it! I hope it all works out.
  8. No idea about the bitrate but I like it for when I'm working on the computer. I stream it at the office to an older receiver that I use for my Ipod and local radio with some crappy HTiB speakers. It does a decent enough job. I really like it. However, I am sure the IT department hates me for this stunt
  9. Ok guys the offer still stands on the Heresy set. I am still thinking about it. I have decided they would be too big for my current office. I can buy a small set of Polks (gasp) that would suit the office just fine. But these could become a part of the house in the upstairs provided the wife doesn't kill me or if things get real bad an additional set to my new bachelor pad. Now I have no idea what to do about the board where the grill cloth attaches to. As far as the guts go inside I can take a bunch of digital photos to make sure it all goes back together right and working I hope. Woodworking is new to me. Any thoughts?
  10. Well I'm not so sure I am qualified to post here. The living room is our HT so I have tried to keep components and speakers on the smaller side. The best purchase she thinks we made was the 42 inch DLP a couple years ago. Now she loves the RB's for music and movies. She hates the SVS sub because she doesn't like a lot of bass and I run the sub a little hot and you can forget about "reference" level listening. I leave the decorating to her and the only thing I have a say in is if it gets real ugly (the furniture). Of course she gets to still buy her shoes, coats and other stuff. BTW size was a big determination about what speakers and tv to go with having 3 windows on wall didn't help. She has quit asking how much stuff costs because she ays that is what we work for.

    SACD

Some years back when I upgraded the dvd player in the living room I bought a unit that did DVD audio and SACD. Some of the mixes I bought were fair most were junk because they were not mixed well. In fact I actually prefered the CD's better. There are a few good ones that I found. Dark Side of the Moon was one of the best mixes actually. My big problem was trying to find the SACD's without special ordering them. I hear that there are some excellent examples of what the format is/was capable of and a lot of good classical music as well. Good luck with the purchase.
  12. Crap I never thought about having to remove the guts of the speaker before doing anything to it. I can tear it apart but getting it back together may be another story. I've looked at some speaker fabric that replicates the look of older radios from the 30's and 40's and some of it looks really cool. I think with a darker finish they would look great> But.....
  13. I have noticed it to. Some people use a docking station and state that the station helps with the problem. I am not sure what it is because I notice a difference between my laptop and IPod and they both have the MP3's encoded at the same bitrate.
  14. Thanks for the reply but could you provide a few links since there is a vast amount of information. It's kind of overwhelming. Also, the fellow I work with has offered to trade me his speakers for my equipment and since you said "you'll be fine glad you're keeping the Hersies" I will translate that into it is a good deal and trade the equipment for the speakers? Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks Colterphoto 1 I appreciate it.
  15. I did audition them today for about 15 minutes using rock, country and classical through an IPod and they sounded good. There was no popping or cracking sounds. I even cranked them to make sure and they sounded ok. Hmmmmm.....
  16. I have a coworker that is trying to get me to trade my Onkyo HT-R500 receiver and some HTiB speakers from Phillips and this includes the sub for a pair of 1974 Heresey speakers (if I am reading the info right). I know that are consective serial numbers. I am unsure of the finish they appear to be oak. I would want to refinish them and this includes new cloth for the fromts and emblems. I was wanting new bookshelf speakers for my office. The only drawback is that I would have to set them in the floor and the way my office is set up I would be in the crossfire from them really close to 1 (like 1ft) and the other would be 8 ft away. There is the chance that we will be moving offices in a year and my new onw is supposed to be 10 ft by 15 ft. I would also regained the old HTiB receiver to power them. How hard is it to refinish speakers? This would be my first attempt if I did it. How would you put speaker cloth on the front along with emblems? How do you clean the cones because they are extremely dusty? Thanks for the input.
  17. Enjoy it my friend! Post your impressions when you can. I know my baby SVS still brings a smile to my face.
  18. If I read the info and if I have to install some kind of software and our IT people won't even lets us do anything with the computers. All software must be agency approved. We have to call and wait two days before we get updates to Adobe reader or anything like that. Not to mention if I hook it into the computer I wouldn't be able to hear my local radio station or use my IPod (I think). However that looks really sweet for the house!
  19. Ok i decided to finally ditch my crappy HTiB speakers. I am using an Onkyo HT-R500 receiver for radio broadcasts and my IPod connection. I also have ran the sound from the computer into this outfit. My office is about 10 by 10ft and I sit anywhere from 2 ft to 4 ft from the speakers. They are off to my left side. I have Klipsch RB 61's at the house and I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to audition these http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/vb-15.aspx This will stretch my budget to the max. In a year or two we will be moving (I hope) to a new office building and I should have a 10 by 15 office. I think these should be ok. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions.
  20. How funny! The wife accuses me of not listening all the time. I told her that if I paid attention to everything she said I would go insane.
  21. I hate to hear that. The wife and I had to have her poodle she raised put to sleep 11 years ago and we still miss her. We have a Yorkie that is 10 and still going strong. 3 cats one 15, one 14 and one 4. I look for the 15 year old to go to sleep one night and not wake up (long story). It's tough losing them but they give us so much love and so very little in return.
  22. I got the baby SVS 10 inch sub and couldn't be happier! It's all we have room for in the living room but it does a great job. It's the second best piece of equipment next to the Klipsch speakers. There are a great company to do business with.
