JamesV Thanks! Thats how I have it set up as RS and LS. I just wanted to make sure. Now that I have my system all hooked up and running, I am extremely happy with the results. A few weeks ago, I was mentioning that I was not too happy with my set up as it didnt sound warm enough to me with the Emotiva-IPS 1 and the LMC-1 combo. However, since I have received my Rs-62's that was the missing link for me. I guess what I was describing as full or warm is basically the sounds stage of having surrounds. Now my system sounds full and rich and I cannot be happier with this IPS-1 and LMC-1 combo. Now note that I have the Rf-7 speakers. If you look at a search in these threads there was a user at one time that had Rf-7's and bough the LMC-1 and had major hissing problems. He was not happy and sent it back to Emotiva. He received another LMC-1 and the hiss was still there. This put my off by this combo. However I have heard users that have not had any issues with this unit. The LMC-1 has a few minor quirks in the sense of how it displays room distance settings. For instance I will set my front as 11 feet from my listening position and it will show on the display 22 feet. It doubles it, but its just a display error. I only have a DVD player hooked up to this via optical. I am now very happy with the LMC-1 and RF-7 set up. My home theatre sounds incredible! This is jaw dropping sound to me. I calibrated my room, put up sound treatments, set all speakers via SPL meter, configured distance and I could not be happier with this unit and I dont experience any hiss with my LMC-1 and RF-7 whatsoever. The price was also right on this unit, and the reason why I bought it is so that I can upgrade to the new MMC-2 unit when it comes out later this year, that will have full HDMI 1.3 capability. However based on the sound I am getting from this unit, I dont really see an upgrade to MMC2 for quite some time, but I know that I can still get the 40% off later any time when I am ready for the new MMC2. If I can give sound characteristics of the system right now it will have to be a full rich sound, yet very natural and detailed. I lstened to War of the Worlds last night and we can feel the sound move right through our seats. It felt like we were there. Before the RS-62 it sounded good, but now with these RS-62's its absolutely amazing. Thanks Dave

Hi, I recently purchased some RS-62's since I have been listening to movies in 3 channel all this time. So now I finally got a 5.1 system:) The reason why I purchased the RS-62 is because of the wide dispersion that fulfills a 180 degree angle since I did have a problem with placement. I tried to put them on the sides, but my room is unforgiving and I dont have any wall on the left side, there is a curtain there. For this reason I placed the RS-62 on the back walls as suggested as a placement if one cannot put it on the sides. This brings me to my question: Question: I have a 7.1 LMC-1 pre/pro, and there is LS and RS ( I assume left surround/right surround) and there is alos LBS and RBS (left back surround and right back surround) What would the 5.1 standard be. Do I hook my RS-62's up as RS and LS for 5.1 even though they are on the back wall? Thanks Dave

Thanks Arky and Dr. Who, The specs for the IPS-1 amp is here: http://www.emotiva.com/ips1.html Here is pictures of the inside of the IPS-1: http://www.emotiva.com/expandedpages/ips1expanded.html This amp does sound good and very natural detailed etc. and I am surprised as I am not hearing any noise his or hum etc. with the pre/pro and amp combo, but I would like that "full sound" especially when I listen to DVD with good movie Soundtracks and full orchestra. With this amp I can still hear all the detail and grittiness of let say for example a cello hitting the bow and the resin etc - the oomph is there and natural sound, but I feel tha my Rf-7's dont open up unless I pump up that volume then it sounds better, but too loud. My initial thinking was to get two crown xti amps , but then I would only have 4 channels and I have 5.1 surround. I wish they made an amp that was decent price like crowns with a 3 channel amp, then I could have gotten a 2 channel and a 3 channel for 5 channels. Oh all the choices - My time for reviewing this amp is ending tomorrow so I am in this frenzie with deciding to keep it or not. I am still open to suggestions. Thanks Dave

Dr. Who, Since writing the above post I have experimented with speaker placement toe-in and I also set up more sound treatment and I am satisfied with the overall result, but dont know if the Rf-7s could sound better. I still have a trial period on the IPS-1 (actually my last day to test is tomorrow), so, by al means share what you have learned about the IPS-1 and the RF-7 why it doesnt work well. Please educate me. I really would appreciate that input. Its not too late to send it back. This is a 7 channel amp and all I really need for now is a 5 channel amp. Also, I spent $899 for the amp and $379 for the LMC-1 pre pro. Is there another amp or pre/pro combo that you could recommend? I don mind buying used. Thanks Dave

Bill - Yes, I think this is going to be the best placement, and then take the two black thin absorbers off the back wall and place them both next to each other to cover the first reflection point on wall (red arrow on wall in picture) that Professor Thump is describing. The absorber is approx 2" thick of owens corning. I think this is what Professor Thump was referring to. Thanks Dave

Professor Thump I am trying to envision what youre saying so please bare with me. I tried to put into a visual format what youre saying. Per your explanation and the red lines I drew in the pic below, am I understanding your explanation correctly? This is where I think I will place the Rs-62's. Is there a different place you think will be better for my room situation, since the curtain on the left does not have a wall, its the opening to the room. Here is the pic. Thanks Dave

Thanks BillH I managed to open the figure 3. Based on that it looks like the best position for placement on back wall is not close to the side corners, but more behind the 1st and 3rd seating position in that picture. It creates pretty much a triangle/ with listening position if you were to draw lines and is pretty much in line with the main speakers. After all these Rs-62s have a nice wide dispersion so that makes sense not to have it sit too close to a corner on the back wall but having the left and right surrounds on the back wall more towards the center and further fromt he corners of the wall, as it it will allow it to disburse a 90" area which will give me a full 180 degrees, I will also make sure to use my ears for optimal placement:) Thanks Much! Hi All - Happy new year to you. Thank you for the good information. I have decided to go with the RS-62's. Oh Professor Thump also thanks for the thread in giving me that info on my father in law's electro-voice speakers. Much appreciated! When I look at optimal placement these RS-62 will be mounted flat on the wall, and the very bottom of the RS 62 will be 5 feet from the floor. For those of you who are wondering about mounting it to existing drywall , if you have studs in the wall they are approx 16" from center to center. Older homes have a distance of approx 24" to 24" from center of stud to center of stud. Another way to tell where studs are is if you use a stud finder, but be careful as they are not always accurate. You can also check if there is a power outlet, and unscrew the power outlet plate and you will see the power outlet fastened to the side of the stud and you can measure from there as a starting point. If you hang it on drywall, the Molly bolts or Toggle bolts will do the job. Just make sure not to over fasten or you will rip your drywall apart. Molly bolts can usually hang up to 40 or 50 pounds and toglle bolts can hang up to 100 pounds via drywall. By looking at the RS-62 in the manual, isnt the RS-62 due to its Wide Dispersion intened to mount flat against a back wall, as it projects at 90 degree angle thus two = 180 degrees? I think that it would be best just to place them flat on wall and not direct it via pointing down exactly directional to the listening position, as thats what the RB series does a directional speaker. Am I correct with this assumption? I appreciate your thoughts, Dave

Hi I posted in the Home Theatre forum, but think it should have been in this thread. I posted a picture of my room and need help with placing of my surrounds. Is there a formula or general measuring area that is suggested for surrounds? Where would you place them? These would be RS-62 or RS-7 Wide Dispersion surrounds. I appreciate your help. Dave

Thanks for the input. I just left an email with them. If I cannot get hold of an RS-7, what are other alternatives? I looked on the spec sheets and it looks like the RS-62 comes close, however I do want a seamless transition from surrounds to front. I do have an RC-64 center and they match very well with RF_7 but dont know if RS-62 will be a good match. Welcome your input. Thanks Dave
