Steve - take camera to Heart and get at least one pic with them or at least a selfie on your phone. My latest RTM post.... A FB and more friend, local radio DJ (and more) Jill appears at 3:05 in this clip from 1990. Here are a couple of photos from her collection she posted on FB from her Q102. Dave - Awesome project. Hope to see it someday.
  3. Saw video that shows how to build or rebuild a long term cooler on the cheap if you need long term cooling and durability isn't an issue. The Yeti's seem crazy expensive but saw an Igloo in Sam's built the same way. And much more expensive than normal Igloos. Supposed to be able to be locked up tight enough including with a lock to keep bears out? Anyway. My thoughts are. Yeti's made in China, at least theone's I've seen. Igloo and Coleman made or at least assembled in the US so I'd go with Coleman or Igloo.
  4. How can you mention the words CUSTOM TURNTABLE and not share pics Ok, here is a short video of the 1" paperstone being CNC'd. I'll get some pictures, once I take them. https://www.youtube.com/embed/sn4ZsMUsQkE Can't wait to see some pics. I want to build a custom plinth or two but will be old fashioned manual. Can't wait to see what you build.
  5. Great news that Dee i recovering. Prayers for speedy and full recovery for many more blessed trips around the sun.
  6. I am also disappointed all new have 1 year warranty!?! Originally had 2 year warranty. That is very disappointing. Expecting them to fail after a year!?!
  7. Dunno. Try the Audeze with Pono in balanced moce? Pono electronics by Ayre acoustics and sound promising... My budget is doing good to include Klipsch x models. Bought on clearance. The big Grado's look cool and are supposed to sound very good. Their entry level SR60 are damned good for $69 or $79 or whatever they go for these days. I've had mine for over 20 years and have repearied/improved by Grado twice. The most recent sometime in the last 8 to 10 years. Call and ask for John which model he'd recommend. I called to ask which wire went with which after plug on SR60 failed (under warranty) and having hacked apart wanted to verify which wire was L, R, G and how to fit thick cable into RatShack plug. They had me talk to John. John Grado. Very nice guy. Passionate about audio. All Grado over ear open air phones except the very entry level eGrado (?) street style are made in Brooklyn NY. The %50 street style use SR60 drivers but are assembled in China. Not sure about Grado in ears... but in any case round ear gels not as comfortable as oval. The Audeze being electro static or planar magnetic or whatever they are, are going to be hard to beat.
  8. That's a big beef of mine. The screen should keep the ear cheese outta the workings... but how to clean screen and there's no special tool to dig any ear cheese outta the ear gels (please quite calling them ear buds!!!). I live in Indiana and am a bit allergic to everything and have summer cold and/or sinus infection. So my ears create a lot of ear cheese. Yech! And there are times I can't take even the Klipsch oval ear tips.... maybe the tear drop version that P-Thum also worked on... so have enjoyed my Status. Roger - there ain't no headphones that are not going to shake your booty like a KP 600 stack or room full of Klipschorns or standard K'horns. I have heard real 35 hz bass and below... more felt it below. Won't have any brain cells left much less hearing if in ear monitors or over the ear or on the ear cans move the air like BIG speakers. Yeah. I don't hear that on a normal basis. Heresies, even GMLA51 pimped or my Tannoy SRM12B are going to move much air below 50 hz or so. I do have a smallish Velodyne sub I bought on the cheap that's supposed to be reasonably flat with room gain at least down to 30hz or thereabouts. Maybe even 20 something. That said I do have a Stereophile test CD that I think does have frequency test tones down to 30 something hz or lower. But I sent back my kit. Monday night. I emailed Ms Rae so was not expecting them in Hope on the 7th. (whew). Recently demoed a few tracks on a friend's CD on a Dolby atmos system at Klipsch HQ playing cee dee as 2.2. Largish dual 15" subs were doing some serious vibration. Not sure how deep the disc goes. I'm sure 35hz as deepest bass is a bit conservative. p.s. Stop in at HQ... real easy to connect to the black Console.... videos from my Windows smart (***) phone sounded great. Need to load on some music. lol. Alex managed to extract himself from meeting after I told him I cculd connect. Still can't find a place to hook up turntable to the dadburn Console. . But I have a Garrard from a console... so it's doable... but kind of convoluted. No place to put it in The Condole. Definitely not the consoles I remember cousins and neighbors having in my youth, in the prior century.
  9. Thanks for the info. I hope to get a Pono player "soon".
  10. Something comparable to the Custom 3 would be the X7i - it shares a very similar balanced armature to the Custom 3, however with better vocals. The X11i will have better highs and better lows than the Custom 3, even though the Custom 3 already had pretty good bass. That's quite an accomplishment for single armature. The Custom 3 has great lows and highs as expected of a 2 way design. I think the thing that set the Custom 3 apart from the x10 for me is the more pronounced mids, sounding clearer to me. I prefer the sound of both the short lived x5 and x7 (I have both, x5 and x7 recent acquisitions) over the x10. Now to listen and compare the x11i in the try 'em kit.
  11. Richard, I've used passive Pro Ears hearing protectors over Image x10 (and x7, a5i, and x5) and my original Custom 2 for years. Not at all a problem using small dual flange gels and probably others. I think it was September 2007 I ordered my Custom 2 when first available so suspect you got your Custom 3 then or shortly thereafter, as soon as they became available.
  12. Got mine today! Too busy to really evaluate and can't afford to keep any right now. Have yet to hear the r6 or x4. Have x7 and x10. Expect x11 to sound like x10. Only better. Uh. Can I have 2 weeks? A week is so short a period of time....
  13. Something comparable to the Custom 3 would be the X7i - it shares a very similar balanced armature to the Custom 3, however with better vocals. The X11i will have better highs and better lows than the Custom 3, even though the Custom 3 already had pretty good bass. I'v not heard the x11i yet but try 'em kit is on the way. And don't forget. The Custom 3 was a 2 way. 2 armatures with a tiny crossover. The Image models are all single armature. The best would be the custom ear molded 2, 3, and 5 way for the professional market that never got out of prototype stage to the best of my knowledge / rumormill. I think the x11 is an improvement over the x10. However, I also believer that the x7 will sound much more like the Cuetom 3 than the x11. The x11 bass may be improved over the Custom 3, and highs may be too, but, it's the more pronounced mid frequencies, I think, that make the Custom 3 sound so much better go many of us than the x10. The x7 IMVHO, or maybe IMNSVHO, are the best sounding of today's Klipsch in ear monitors. That may change when I hear the x11 but I doubt it. Richard - I'll try to update after I've tried the x11 but the x7 sound like the x5 which sound like the Custom 3. The x10 sound is quite a bit different. But my gut tells me you'll like the x7 the best.
  14. I know a person who has access to a few pair of Monsoon speakers. I can probably help by delivering to Indianapolis area or within a couple of hour radius of Kokomo if somebody's willing to help with gas. Asking price is $975 per pair for the larger model and $675 per pair for the smaller model. More details to follow. New in box. New old stock. I'll try to post links to more info later. The larger pair I think is the same model Professor Thump sold a few months back from his time with Monsoon. Planar magnetic mid and high drivers. Very smooth detailed sound. Pretty narrow coverage. A lot less efficient than Klipsch. Great for small rooms at reasonable listening levels.
  15. Attempt 2 is better. Order for $5 trial and pre=order for entire kit. Maybe should've proceeded further with PayPal. But I managed to put in wrong year for CC expiration. Or my eyes are just all crossed. Both orders arrived in my email box. Maybe crud on dirty laptop screen.
  16. Roger, Please quit calling them earbuds. If you're not hearing bass, you're not getting a good seal. Or for some reason, With a proper seal, the x10's will rock your socks off and you can literally FEEL the bass in your nead. Professor Thump prefers the sound of the X10. It sometimes takes a bit of work to get a correct seal. It is possible that your ear canals wont allow a good seal? I'd be surprised with different sized ear gels. That said I don't think all models include the 5 basic ear gels. Unlike Coyotee-O, I think you prefer the sound of Klipsch over the little (rhymes with hose) cubes. Richard does too, but sometimes ya gotta wonder. All the above said, you may be disappointed with nothing less than Custom 3 or the 2, 3 and 5 way custom in ear monitors that P-Thump was working on a couple of years back. Might want to try them again... or wait for 2 or 3 or + x models. I tired to order and selected PayPal.... Came up as $661. Might want to check into that. Now I'm having trouble getting to checkout to put in my credit card.... Just send me Roger's. I'll clean them up. Probably all full of ear cheese. Used the price should be reduced by at least 50%? And I'll clean off the ear cheese and sell to neurotic audiphilidiots as extremely rare wax to wax your wood bodied cartridges, turntable plinths, and speakers. Cha-Ching! So that's my new company Audiphilidiots ® © 2015 BSamuel. Audiophilidiots. Roger - how fast can you crank out ear cheese? Or maybe you're ear canals are clean... Even beter. Lower volume, higher price. $$$$$$

  18. Amen! Doc! Amen! It's like audiodom has drank the iFruit magic juice. Maybe iTunes subliminaly brainwashes people? Including the audio world? I think it's time for some company to take a STAND! That company should be KLIPSCH. Be the BEST AUDIO comapny and reset the standards! I can't for the life of me why PHONE HEADSETS aren't standarized for basic controls. And early on everybody wanted replaceable cables. Yeah, replaceing the entire cable on the Image X11 would be difficult. HOWEVER, Am I missing something!?! Make one 'phone. Image x11. Plugs into plain old cable. Or iFruit cable. Or aDroid cable Or mWind cable. Of cours even better would be STANDARD cable. And we consumers keep buying iFruit products. iFruit I hope is starting to play nicer? I think now that has settled down as most devices charge using the USB cable... p.s. Finally got some closeout x7. No i. Damn! Have not compared with the X5 but so much more comfortable. And yep. Sounds better to me than my x10ss. Still haven't tried the x11.
  19. Not to be a you-know-what, but earbuds are typically referred to as the ones that sit in your ears while in-ear headphones actually go in your ear... Don't trust me? The Audiophiliac from CNET: http://www.cnet.com/news/everything-you-know-about-earbuds-is-wrong/ Haha, what the hell is happening to this thread. This guy just said the same thing twice, as if he wasn't repeating the same thing twice, lol. "Earbuds - *Sit* in your ear", "Headphones - *go* in your ear". Wait, so unless there is a difference between sit and go, as they're used, here - you just said the same thing. What am I missing? I'm throwing in the towel on this one. Haha. As an early owner and user of the Klipsch IEMs here's my 0.2 db IMVHO earbuds are cheap disposable in ear headphones. I think initially the micro speaker Klipsch in ear headphones were intended more for portable use of compressed mp3 files while the armature models (x and Custom models) were less forgiving and higher resolution. The Klipsch in ear 'phones are all a step (or several) up in sound quality and build quality than mere ear buds
  20. Order the kit and find out for yourself! It depends... I'm assuming the 11's carry on the 10's sound signature. The 7's compared to the 10's have a more pronounced midrange and sound clearer to me similar to the x5's. The 10's known for their "stentorian" bass as one reviewer put it. The 7's not at all lacking in bass nor the 10's lacking in highs and mids. I prefer the sound of the 7's compared to the 10's. I've not heard the 11's so maybe they're "better". If they have the same sound as the 10''s then I'll probably still prefer the 7's. The 11's will win out in absolute comfort and coolness due to their small size. Professor Thump actually prefers the sound of the x5 and x7 over the x10. It may be time to try the x11 but then I'm sure I'll want to add to my collection. Custom 2, Image x10, Image x5, Image x7, a5i, Status. .
  21. Meh, I'd say they're headphones by common definition. Earbuds are a type of headphone. Much like an on-ear, over-the ear, and open-ear are also all simply types of headphones. Lest we sharpen the knife enough to re-split the hair. I think Professor Thump et al used the term IEM for In Ear Monitors for the original IMAGE, Custom 1, Custom 2, and Custom 3 models. All of which used armatures instead of micro speakers used in cheap, inexpensive, and very good in ear 'phones.
  22. The plane will / will not fly. I think many think they know everything won't ever admit they might be wrong about the play taking off or not taking off. And well, a few just love to pummel dead horses over and over again. Maybe some of us are senile and forget we've already replied to this topic numerous times.
  23. What happened to Duke? I miss him as well. Don't know. Sent a couple of messages. No reply. Heard he met a lady friend but absolutely not sure. I remember Duke. Met Meagain at fy first Pilgrimage - maybe whe's just too busy again. And of course miss Oldbuckster (RIP Rob queue Wild Horses)
