I lightly wiped them down I didn't know if its best for people to see them like they are I didn't want to feel like I was trying to be deceitful or anything. good advise from everyone I thanks for the reply's since they are already on ebay I will probably just let it ride out until auction is done then mess with them more. any suggestions on what kind of furniture polish to use or not to use? any cleaning tips?

Just dust them off thoroughly, every nook and cranny, and re examine them. If some type of polish is needed for that nice sheen, apply lightly.

  3. I know weight is not everything but the 7 channel Denon comes in at a weight of 19 pounds while the 2 channel Yamaha weighs 22.7 pounds.

Now that is out of the way.

    1. Is the receiver 'smart' enough to send all of its power capabilities to the 3 channels?

The Denon should have settings where you can drive only the L-C-R.

Okay so update I got back home and plugged the record player into my 600s. I am hearing the same really tweeters and the distortion. So that is being introduced by the record player.

Good to know.  I did not think the RP280FAs were the culprit.

Unfortunately the serial number checker is down on the klipsch site so no way to tell when they were bought.

I would not worry too much about that.  Unless the speakers were abused, passive speaker designs usually never fail or take decades to decline in sound quality due to aging capacitors.

One odd thing is that the volume scale goes from 0 to 100 instead of the negative scale I'm used to (-20dB for example).  I haven't found anything in the menus of it to change the volume format.  I know with some receivers you can change that feature back and forth if you want to.

My Onkyo gives the option so I bet a little more hunting the menu is in order.

If I have the option of spending a little money and trading my 600s for a pair of RP-280Fs, is that going to be a huge upgrade thats worth it?

Yes huge upgrade if not using a subwoofer.  Not as much with subwoofer but still an upgrade.

In a small room, the RP600s/subwoofer may even image better.

One last question, Klipsch site says underpowering can damage them. I have a Yamaha S-501 85 watts per channel. Is that plenty of power? Will it underpower the towers at all? They are 150(CONT) and 600(Peak).

In a large room with continuous high volumes(loud), a beefier amp may be needed to get the best out of the RP-280Fs.
