  1. I did not change the sub settings on my NAD, I just bumped up the volume on my subs digital controls and just reset it with one button press to "recall (movie) settings". Bill
  2. While HDMI switching is an awesome convenience, as many know, to get the BD codecs(DDTrueHD and DTS-MA), it is not hopeless if you have an older non-HDMI avr. I just bought a new Yamaha BD-S1065 bluray player with 7.1 analog rca outs. I hooked it up via 5.1 analog to my non HDMI NAD T-773 avr with the Yamaha decoding the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA tracks. Let me tell you the sound is just plain awesome. http://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/How_To_Set_up_a_Blu-ray_Player_Using_Multi-Channel_Analog_Outputs_And_Why.shtml I A-B'd many times back and forth Dolby 5.1 via digital coax and Dolby TrueHD via 5.1 analog and it is not even a close race. I first demoed "Dark Knight" on blu-ray which has an incredible LFE track. Night and day difference with detail and nuances that just don't come through with the non-HD codecs. One thing to note is that the LFE signal needs to be bumped up about 10 to 15db's to even the playing field. This seems to be a common issue with the bass management(.1 channel) on many BD players when you let the player decode. For some reason the .1 signal seems to be output and a lower volume. No big deal to me I just upped the volume on my sub itself. Second demo was "Live at Radio City-Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds" on blueray with a Dolby TrueHD track. If you have not seen/heard this disc you must get it now. It is my reference BD for music and the video transfer makes it seem like you are at the concert. Crystal clear in every way with some of the best instrument seperation I have ever heard in any format. Tim Reynolds has to be the most technical acoustic guitar player alive today with him just topping David Gilmore in my opinion. Just a few thoughts and info for those who have not purchased a HDMI receiver and have blu-ray. Bill
  3. Matt, I put some time aside to help you move "again" and you could not even call me to cancel(3 weeks later he called). Some excuse about hospital stay. Next time you have a heart attack when we have something planned, you need to call me first to cancel then go to the ER.[8o|] LOL. I know there won't be a next time(heart attack I mean). Glad to have you back in the fold.[Y] Now get back to what is important, family, friends[}], and of course Klipsch and music.[8][8] Bill
  4. Army Al, Welcome to the forum. System #1 all the way. System #2 is great for a bedroom or WAF only alternative. Bill
  5. I don't know what your budget is but NAD makes great sounding av receivers. Warm/neutral sound with a strong amplifier section that rivals seperates. Look at this. http://nadelectronics.com/reviews/Sound-and-Vision-Reviews-T-785-AV-Receiver This is NAD's flagship receiver and it is not cheap. NAD's lesser models of avr's may be more in line with your budget. I have a six year old NAD T-773(no HDMI) that is a beast of a receiver that sounds better than any receiver I have ever heard. While I do have it hooked up to an external amp(B&K Ref. 4430), the amps in the NAD have no trouble at all powering the RF-63's to crazy loud non-distorting levels. Any of the more common brands(Marantz, Onkyo, Yamaha, Pioneer Elite) make great avr's but I think you should consider the mid to higher end models to get the best out of your RF-63's. You can add an outboard amp later if you so choose. Bill
  6. I can't give you any pros or cons from my own experience but these guys seem to know. http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thread/248375/2-center-channel-speakers Bill
  7. Fresh123, Welcome to the forum. No two center channels. I repeat, one center channel only. It as a center channel not center channels(plural). Get the best center you can afford. The RC-62 is great, the RC-64 is better. Running two RW-10D's will work fine. Bill
  8. Congrats on the RF-82 purchase. Yes you will notice a big jump. The highs will be more detailed because of the titanium tweeters and the bass will be tighter. The Ref. series is just built better with higher quality parts and better cabinet bracing. The RF-82's are the sweet spot model for performance/value ratio in the Reference series. Bill
  9. I just measured 13.5 inches with grill cover at the widest point. Bill
  10. Great score. I got my barely used, mint condition cherry RF-63's back in 2008 for $1000.00 delivered with boxes, manuals, etc. I thought I stole those until I saw your deal. You will be very pleased. Bill
  11. The Quintet III's are great little satellites. I actually had them in my main family room system three upgrades ago. For such a smallish speaker, they really held their own and smoked the doors off the "little cubes". For a bedroom setup thay will work great. Bill
  12. Wipster, Welcome to the forum. I love my Forte's. I love my RF-63's. They both have their strengths. For what it is worth, the RF-63's are the most 3-way sounding 2-way speaker I have ever heard(I know I said that in another thread). I did have the RC-62 paired with the RF-63's and it blended just fine. I replaced it with an RC-64 because 6ave.com had them for $550.00 shipped/no tax. Could not pass that deal up. Truthfully, the 64 is a better blend and better overall center channel than the 62. However, the RC-62 holds it's own with the RF-63's and does not present the placement issues that the beast RC-64 does. If you can make it fit, get the RC-64. If not, I don't think you will regret buying an RC-62. Bill
  13. If you want it all to match, look at this. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/MARMM8003B/Marantz/Mm8003-8-Channel-Power-Amplifier/1.html Bill
  14. If you want to stay with a neutral/warm sound like your MA-500's but with some more thump you will not go wrong with B&K. Built like Fort Knox, cool running, reliable, loads of current. Here are a couple of suggestions. http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstran&1285255881&/B-K-7250-II- or http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampsmult&1287329477&/B-K-TX4430-200x3 with http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstran&1286322068&/B-K-EX-4420-price-futher-reduc No affiliation with either. Bill
  15. Oldtimer1954, Welcome, welcome , welcome. First, if you go with the Denon or Integra/Emotiva combo, you will have plenty of horsepower to drive either system. While I have heard the LaScala's before, I have not heard a 3-LaScala home theater. Some on the forum do have that setup and are very pleased. It is hard to beat a HT setup with all three front speakers being the same. Perfect transition from side to side. I say go for it. On the other hand, the RF-83/RC-64 combo is incredible. This is a Klipsch forum, so stay with Klipsch. LOL.[] Bill
  16. Truthfully, a sub like that would probably only be good in complimenting maybe a pair of RB-61's in a 2 channel rig. JMO. Bill
  17. Emmvette, I too am considering the Denon DBP-2010CI. $300.00 seems to be a good price for this player. You may also want to consider the Marantz BD-7004. It is the same player as th Denon but with a few Marantz tweaks. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/MARBD7004/Marantz/BD7004-BD-Live-available-Blu-ray/DVD/CD-Player/1.html Bill
  18. Matt, I'm sorry the Onkyo M-504 is not the chest pounding amp you were hoping for. Another $1000.00 plus and you could have gotten this. http://cgi.ebay.com/Onkyo-Integra-M-588F-power-amp-excellent-condition-/150483688281?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2 No afilliation. Or maybe even this one. LOL. You might need a forklift. Bill
  19. Welcome to the forum. You got a nice pair of Forte's. Here is a very capable receiver that has all the bells and whistles you need and mates very well with Klipsch. Warranty also. Do not be afraid of refurbs. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/MARSR6003/Marantz/Sr6003-Dolby-Truehd/Dts-hd-Master-Audio-Av-Receiver/1.html Bill
  20. With those transformers and capacitors, I don't think your Pioneer A-757 will have any trouble handling the RF-63's 2.8 ohm dips. Bill
  21. Enrique, Welcome to the forum. Let me tell you one thing about the RF-63's that stand out the most to me. They are the most 3-way sounding 2-way speaker I have ever heard. The bass, midrange, and highs roll together almost seamlessly. Very commanding bass with very detailed mids and highs. While for home theater they are incredible, 2 channel(stereo) listening is where they shine the most. If you can get them for a really good price, I think you will be very happy with your purchase. I have listened to the RF-63's with several different amps(B&K, NAD, Marantz, Denon, Onkyo) and I can't complain about any of the combinations. Your vintage Pioneer integrated amp should sound pretty sweet with the RF-63's. Bill
  22. As you can see from the previous post, the RVX-42 has a much flatter curve from 100hz to 1000hz where your acoustic guitar strings sound best. Here is Home Theater's RB-81 system lab measures. Bill
  23. Saurabh, Both the RVX-42 systems and the RB-81 systems have a pretty flat curve with a couple of dips along the way. Here is Home Theater's RVX-42 System Lab Measures:
  24. Saurabhiitd, Welcome to the forum. Funny how you have praised the RVX-42's. I have that setup in my bedroom HT system and could not be more pleased. Before I bought my RF-63's, the RVX-42's were in my main system in my 16 X 24 family room. For a smallish system, the impact and the clarity were very competent for HT use and for music. I set the crossovers on my Onkyo TX-SR705 at 100hz and let the 4in woofers handle the high bass and the midrange. To me, they sounded a lot bigger than they were. I felt like the mids rolled into the highs much smoother than many larger 2-way horn speakers. Now with my RF-63's, I get that same smoothness and clarity with an even bigger sound. Bill
  25. Guys, As you can see from the hundreds of thousands of posts on this forum, we are like family. Most of the threads contain really good advice but occasionally there are disagreements. Most conflicts here get resolved very quickly without any bloodshed. Opinions are numerous. At the end of the day, opinions are just that, opinions. Hang around for a while, Bill
