  1. Welcome Cjmustang69 to the forum.

B&K and Reference Klipsch are a great match. I have the B&K Ref. 4430 driving my cherry RF-63/64 combo. In my opinion, a musical marriage. Full bass and warm mids with great seperation for music. The 63's do sound different than the Heritage line but sweet sounding all the same. There is something cool about (10) 6.5 inch drivers pushing dB's in your face. That Denon 3910 is a great player also.

    Take care,

    Bill

  2. Welcome to the forum Matt. There are more generous and caring people on this forum that you will ever imagine.

I will have to totally agree with dtel's wife. There is not a more family friendly forum on the web than right here. Tons of info and experiences, and the best group of people in the audio world reside here.

    Welcome Matt to our home,

  3. The question here is Leno trying to save face in his taking part of bumping O'Brien to the later time slot? Just because his prime time show was a disaster doesn't mean he has to help in the shafting of O'Brien. He has made more money in the last fifteen years than any other TV personality and should show some class and bow out politely.

No Leno bashing here but I think if Carson wanted to return and bump Leno less than a year after leaving, he could have but did not. Period.

Truth be known, the real ones with no class are NBC executives. Leno should not align himself with those snakes.

  4. Thanks Dennie and Rivernuggets for your replies. I know there are better subs out there but I wanted it mainly because it is "vintage" and will match perfectly with the Forte's. I read about the hum issues and I think I know how to correct that. This system is in my family room so I can't crank it up like I want to. If the seller can lower price to $175.00 I may jump on it.

    Thanks again,

    Bill

  5. I spotted a used Klipsch SW-12 subwoofer in oak oil for $250.00. It looks to be in great shape. I recently aquired a vintage Denon

PRA-1500 preamp to round out my vintage Denon 2 channel rig. To my surprise, not only did it have the normal preouts for an amp it also has a preout for a subwoofer. [:D]Bonus for me. I immediately hooked up my RSW-10d to the rig and was really pleased how it blended with the Forte's.[Y]

How will the SW-12 mesh with the Forte's? Is $250.00 too much? Any opinions or comments are welcome.

    Thanks,

    Bill

  6. For an analog out only, strictly CDP. How much difference does a few hundred dollars make in the used market? For instance, that DCD-35 is going for 150 dollars. Is that as good as the integra which is more than twice as much? Is this were the dollar sign line is drawn for "all in one" players vs. CDP only?

Do a search for Denon DCD-3520 or 3560 and see the results. These players were way ahead of their time and rival many mid/hi end players of today. Read this:

One of the cool things about getting good deals on the vintage stuff is usually you can resell for what you paid or more. If you are not happy with your purchase, just sell it. Trying different combinations and experimenting is half the fun.

I guess the biggest advantage in buying new or recent used is the reliability factor. Older players can have issues(lazer, transport, etc.) that might need repaired. I have just been fortunate with my vintage cdp's and have not needed to make repairs.

  7. i'm wondering...how would having the front 3 speakers all be KLF 20s compare to say...keeping the KLF's as my mains and spending a thousand+ dollars on a fancy small center channel?

Mount your TV on the wall slightly higher than the center KLF-20 and have two component stands , one on either side of your KLF-20's and you will have a completey symetrical and jamming HT.

  8. A lot of options...how to decide? The link to that integra looks like a good unit, but does a player loose (i dont want to say credibility) but "something" if it is a universal player? I mean,do you end up paying more for the other options as opposed to a stand alone CD player with stop/play/pause and the rest of the money/effort put into the DAC and other such internals? The only thing I want to use it for is music cds with an analog out cable.

I would not say a universal player loses credibility but a stand alone CD player of similar or equal quality will probably have a "slight" edge in sound quality. If a universal player is not the route you want to go, here is another option that is very similar to the Integra/Onkyo universals that is analog out only.

Stereophile had very high praises in their review.

Also late 80's to mid 90's vintage Denon cdp's are pretty abundant on the used market. Look for the DCD-15** series,DCD-25** series and the mack-daddy DCD-35** series. Here are a couple of examples. No affilitation.

Hit your local thrift stores and pawn shops. I found three vintage players that were in excellent condition and operated perfectly for a total of $60.00 at a Salvation Army store.

  9. I'm glad I posted this thread... a lot of great suggestions. Does more than one person agree with any single player? Any particular brands have particular sound staging to be aware of?

IMO all of these players should net a better sound using the DAC's in them instead of your receiver. All of these suggestions are quality players for good prices.

  10. I know this is not a stand alone CD player but the DAC's in this Denon are the top of line Burr Brown DCD-1796.

    Another option.

Another option but at your max price. A phenominal universal player. As I stated before in another thread, I have the Onkyo version(DV-SP1000).

  11. Welcome to the forum.

I currently have my Forte's(not II's) in the corners about 12 inches from the rear wall and about 14 inches from the side wall. I have them toed in about 10 degrees and toed up(if there is such thing) about 2 degrees(propped up 3/4 inch).

I have my Quartet's(tractrix mid horn also) in the corners equidistance from the rear and side walls about 14 inches and also toed in about 10 degrees.

With these placements, bass is never lacking in my rooms.

    Here is one reviewer's opinion:

  12. I also like Onkyo. I think you should just buy InVeNtOR Onkyo 805................thus helping a Form member out !

    http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/129359.aspx

I agree with Bill. The 805 is light years better than either the Onkyo 607 or the Denon 1910 and for the same price plus shipping. Keep in mind that the 805 is a beast(tall, deep, heavy) so make sure your stand or cabinet will accomodate.

    Here are the specs:
