  1. I bought a couple of these speakers (see attached photo) two years ago, but not sure about any details/history. Serial # 52S244 is located along the top edge on the back of the cabinet. Dimensions are Height- 21", Width- 15", Depth- 13". They sound good for small speakers, and when a subwoofer is added they sound real good! Any details/information would be appreciated. Here's wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas/Holiday season!...I hope to hear back from you soon! David Spikes Aiken, South Carolina
  2. Are you still looking for La Scala industrial splits? I may be selling my pair of 1986 La Scala, with Anvil road cases included....Let me know if you're still looking...Attached are photos....
  3. Did Paul Klipsch ever produce a paper/analysis on the difference between tube and solid state amps when using Klipschorn or LaScala speaker systems? I'm getting on up there in age, now (turned 70 in July) and I'm not sure that my ears would be able to tell the difference should I decide to add a tube amp to my system. I feel if I'm ever going to have my "dream system" I've got to start building it soon!....Would love to know what Paul Klipsch had to say about the difference. Also, where do I start looking for a reasonably priced tube amp for my LaScala industrials? David Spikes
  4. I have a non-functioning K-77 tweeter (SN- 123663) that I'd like to give to someone that could either repair it, or use it in a display of some sort. It appears in good condition, but does not function when hooked up to an amplifier. Just contact me via email (davidspikes@hotmail.com) and tell me how you plan on using this item. Please include your contact information (phone number and email address). All I ask is that you pay for the shipping. I have an Electro-Voice tweeter, model T-35, in the same condition...Looks fine, but doesn't work. I'd be happy to include this tweeter, as well. So, if you're willing to work on these, or just display them, let me know... I look forward to hearing from you soon.
  5. So, I'm trying to get an idea of how much my "dream speaker system" would cost,...just in case I win the Mega Lotto sometime soon. What would it take to purchase the systems displayed in the attached photo?....and what about the costs of powering this dream setup?...Then, of course, I'll need to build a house that will effectively house this!...A man's gotta dream!!!!
  6. I have a pair of industrial La Scala speakers, and was wondering about the history of this particular model of La Scala. When were they first produced, and how many were manufactured? I rarely see any being sold...I know I'll never part with mine, but I'm curious about how rare they are. Any information would be appreciated. Regards, H. David Spikes Aiken, SC
  7. I've got a couple of industrial La Scalas, and would like to clean them up a bit...What's the best way to clean the surfaces? I have (for lack of a better term) the "Rhino liner" surfaces with aluminum trim. Not using them much outside anymore, so I'd like to clean them up for my "man cave"!
  8. Makes me cry just lookin' at the photos of this system! Gotta be a great sound coming out of them...
  9. I've got a couple of Klipsch Heresy speakers (about 15 years old) in almost mint condition that I unfortunately need to sell (retirement, relocation, downsizing, etc.). Would love to know what I should expect to get for them if I post them for sale on ebay. Would love to sell them locally, but I fear finding a buyer in the Aiken, SC/Augusta, GA area will be difficult. Suggestions for selling them via an alternative method would be appreciated, as well. Your feedback is appreciated. Regards, H. David Spikes
  10. I'll take the two new ones...Send me an email (davidspikes@hotmail.com) with your name and mailing address and I'll get a check to you right away...Thanks! HDS
  11. Got a couple of old industrial Klipsch Hereseys with tweeters blown out..Tested the wiring to insure it's the tweeters and not the connections, and confirmed the tweeters are history. Found a couple on e-bay for $99 (advertised as new) and was wondering if anyone knew of a better source/price. Any information would be appreciated.
  12. Thanks for all the feedback on the stage of my industrial LaScalas...The good news is that I have them in heavy-duty, almost airtight coaster mounted cases...so the mice issue is nul & void...As soon as I get my sidewalk to my basement "cave" finished off this summer they'll go back to where they belong,...cranked up in my guy "cave"! HDS
  13. I have two industrial LaScalas (vintage 1984) that I've been keeping in my basment...Nice and cool and dry...But now, I've got to store them in the garage for awhile, and I'm concerned about possible damage to the beauties. I have caster/roller cases for the base cabinets, but was wanting to know what, if any damage I'm doing by keeping them in the garage. I live in Annapolis, MD, so the summers aren't devastatingly hot, but my garage is not air conditioned, and outside temps can get into the 90's come mid-summer. Advice/warnings/suggestion from those with insight and knowledge, please! David
  14. Unfortunately, I've got this thing called "work" that prevents me from devoting the time I'd like to blast through Toole's book quickly...and the chores around the house seem to suck the time right outta my life, too. I hope to get through this book and the other great technical papers suggested by those on this Forum in the coming weeks. Geez, I wish I'd paid more attention in physics and math classes! Would have made understanding what I'm reading so much easier....Perhaps in my next life I'll return with a bit more brain power and focus on the things I love, instead of this "work" gig! Thanks, David
  15. Thanks so much for the info about the "PA Bible"....Yes, I was able to find the papers at the EV website and download them, and they appear to be at about my level of techical compreshension...thank goodness! David
  16. Thanks to one and all for your responses....I'm about half-way through the new Floyd Toole "Sound Reproduction" book, so the material, websites, and books recommended by all of you will make for some great additional reading. I just hope my hearing holds up for a few more years (I'm 58, now) so I can kick back and enjoy my industrial La Scalas and Heresey speakers in my "rocking chair" days/daze!
  17. Does anyone know of a definitive book on large p.a./sound systems? I've toyed with some pretty big systems over the years, but I've never really gotten into the details of how large concert venues are set up, the gear required, how the lines are run, etc...Basically, I'd like to read a "Roadies Guide To Setting Up Concerts", if it exists. Anybody got any suggestions? A book, or perhaps a website? Any info would be appreciated. Also, would love to know if there are any websites with good photos of large sound system setups (speaker stacks, boards, amps, lighting, etc) David
  18. Does anyone know of a good source for a hand-held tone generator? I had one years ago that had a dial on it that allowed me to select between 20-20,000 hertz. RCA line level outputs...Was great for checking out the acoustics of a room and do some equalization. Over the years this handy tool has disappeared. Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated. David
  19. Glad to see that there are others out there at least as crazy as me about my La Scalas...Thanks for posting the photos...I'll be sure to show them to her, and perhaps she'll see that I'm not the only crazy one out there that "loves 'em big and loud'! Crank 'em up! HDS
  20. I bought a pair of black La Scala "Industrials" off e-Bay last year, and love them! Has anyone got a source for a history of the development and production of this particular line of Klipsch speakers? Would love to see any photos of them in use in different venues (clubs, concerts, etc.). These puppies make for wonderful conversations at parties I take them to! HDS
  21. Just got an old Sunn PX2108 Mixer/amp, without any documentation, of course! Does anyone know a good source for finding the owner's manual for this unit? Fender/Sunn has many manuals available free online, but not this one. I've got to shell out $10 to get it from them via US Snail-Mail....Anybody got any other sources for owner's manuals? Scrouge Spikes
  22. ...Having been blessed with having this system "given" to me I guess the least I can do is "pony up" the $$$ for the manual...Thanks for your reply and information... HDS
  23. My wife hates the fact that I still look for "miracles" as I pass by dumpsters and yard sales...but today was a classic... One of my neighbors passed aways several days ago, and the family cleared out all possessions earlier this week, placing everything unwanted at streetside for garbage pickup on Friday. On the way to work yesterday I spotted a Pioneer box among the furniture and clutter, opened it up, and found a mint condition Pioneer SX-1980 Receiver! This baby is a classic, high-horsepower,kick-*** amp from the 1970's, and I'm hoping to get my La Scala hooked up to it later this weekend (got "chores" to do first, of course, before the Super Bowl game tomorrow....) Apparently, these units still sell for upwards to $1,000 on eBay, so I consider this find one of the best...The Recycle Gods must be looking down upon me! But being the cheap bastard that I am, I'm looking for a free version of the owner's or service manuals. Anybody got any leads on where I could download a copy? I've already been online searching, but can only find manuals for sale. Would appreciate any tips, pointers, information, anyone may have about this particular stereo receiver....and any words of encouragement for my hopeless "scrounger" mental condition (I was a garbage collector one summer when in college back in the 60's, and that's when my mind was damaged when I basically lived off what others threw away for 4 months!). HELP!
  24. Power button on the Technics turntable is stuck...Just a matter of me gettin' off my can and taking the turntable apart and cleaning the button/contacts. Probably got a few years worth of cosmic dust in there! HDS
  25. Thanks for the copy of the brochure....I've also got a stash of the "Dope from Hope" newsletters that PWK produced some years ago...I was blessed with having met PWK in St. Louis, MO, back in the mid-70's at a lecture he gave at one of the local audio stores. In part of his lecture he ended up convincing me of the concept of the "middle speaker", which I've incorporated into every home stereo configuration I've had since then. That "middle channel" adds so much to the soundscape! Though I'm not a "techie" or engineer, I do enjoy and admire the quality and efficiency of the Klipsch line of speakers, in spite of my wife's constant opposition to having "those big, ugly boxes" around the house. It appears there are many audio junkies on this Forum, and I look forward to learning more about Klipsch systems and audio, in general, in this Forum. I've still "got my ears", with no measureable hearing loss after many years of working/playing around some pretty loud music since becoming "sound crazy" in 1964 (getting my first set of Ludwig drums then, much to the disappointment of my parents and sisters!),...and as I coast into "later life" I'm certainly enjoying the discovery of the sound detail in my old albums (over 450 albums from the late 60's and 70's, which I've not heard in over 15 years since my Technics turntable bit the dust. Looks like a good gang of Klipsch Krazies in this form....Sorry I can't make it to this year's Pilgrmage! Thanks, HDS
