  1. First off... think of what stereo means.... in theory... itz basically sound signals split into two channels... one left and one right.. or several lefts and rights... so basically 2 channels... mono is basically one sound signal... so herez a question for you... if the purpose of stereo is to split the signal... would you want both your left and right channels playing in the same speaker? or would you rather have one left signal for the left speaker and one right signal for the right speaker? Here's something else to consider... because stereo splits the signal... it would probably need 3 wires... one negative... a left signal wire and a right signal wire (both share the negative)... if you buy the stereo plugs, most likely you will have one terminal free when hooking them up... chances are though... you may get it to work... but i would go with the mono... as for sound quality... stereo plugs may sound the same... if not... worse because of a poorer contact...
  2. Very good point billie jean... compaqs do suck... dont even know why people even bother buying those... My mom's computer is a compaq 663 i think... and itz just a little bit faster than my old 233... Goes to show the power of marketing... My brother has a bose system... and well... itz not all that... i'm just wondering why people would spend so much money on a product because of it's name instead of taking the time to actually test it out first... Educate thy self... and the rewards are endless.... By the way... wont getting a bose center break what you have in the bank? Whatz your price limit? If itz under 200... the 2.1's would probably be perfect... but like i said.. it doesn't have to be klipsch... there are other 2.1 systems out there that are pretty good for less than 100...
  3. Wooo.... looks like lots of time... hee hee... good luck with the project paragon... let me know how it turns out...
  4. Yup... current... or charge on any conductor resides entirely on the surface of the conductor... this is due to the repulsive forces of the electrons towards each other... causeing them to "get away" from each other as far as possible... Here's a lil question now that you know this... If you were in a lightning storm... would you... a)run around wailing your arms... b)jump into a steel tool shed... c)jump into a plastic tent...
  5. If you dont have the cash, you dont necessarily have to get the klipsch 2.1's, there are other 2.1 speakers out there that sound okay as well and are cheaper... But if you're concerned about looks... by all means... coordinate... you got to coordinate... klipsch here klipsch there klipsch everywhere... special K all the way baby... hee he... sorry.. got kinda enthusiastic...
  6. I think the wire that klipsch is using in thier promedia line is 22 guage wire... the lower the guage number... the thicker the wire is... that is until you get to the plus sizes.... thicker wire usually mean less resistance and helps to conduct the signal better... herez a link about wire... http://www.sundial.net/~rogerr/wire.htm
  7. If your going to hook up a separate center channel, it will most likely need an amp of itz own... whatz your price range anywayz? Some people in this post suggested getting a pair of klipsch 2.1's to make a 6.2 system.. using the 2.1's as the center... the 2.1's currently go for about 180 i think....
  8. The type of wire really depends on how far you are going to place your speakers... most people have been saying to use 16 guauge wire... but check for yourself... herez a lil info about speaker wire.... http://www.sundial.net/~rogerr/wire.htm
  9. Are you using windows? If so... did you try turning up the volume using the volume controller? I think it can be found under Programs, Accessories, Entertainment from your start menu... either that or there might be a horn looking thing at the bottom right hand corner near the time display that you can click on...
  10. The only TVs i have seen with a built in decoder are the big screen projection type... dont know if thatz what you're looking for... but you can probably go check out your local Bestbuy or other electronics retailer... as for the outputs it has... i haven't actually looked in back of the TV's... but you can probably check that out when you're at the store. By the way, what kind of sound card do you have? Are you planning on buying a DVD player? If you're getting a DVD player or already have one, you might not need a TV with a built in decoder. DVD players usually have thier own audio outputs either in the form of analog, digital, or both. If there is a digital output and your sound card has a digital line in, itz possible that your sound card will do the decoding for you... in theory... hee he... someone correct me if i'm wrong...
  11. In Theory....sound coming out of the tv would most likely be stereo anywayz... unless your tv is like the new ones that have a built in decoder... this means you will probably not get any surround effects unless you buy a receiver or somthing with prologic or better... there is nothing in the tv that helps separate the channels (except stereo) unless there is a built in decoder... pluging the tv into the soundcard may help you get some surround because the soundcard acts as a decoder (separates the channels)... if you have the soundblaster live!... tryin going into the speakers menu to see if you've selected the correct setup for your speakers then test it to see if your speakers are set up correctly...
  12. Can't you just plug it into the existing line in the new 4.1 preamps have?
  13. In Theory... This might be what you are looking for.... http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F005%5F003%5F009%5F004&product%5Fid=910%2D0879 looks kinda like this i think... except this one is mono.... http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F005%5F003%5F009%5F004&product%5Fid=910%2D0878 After getting these adapters, you can plug it into your tv audio outputs (left and right) keep in mind that you will no longer have front and rear channel separation using this method... rather, you will have left and right (stereo) so place your speakers accordingly If your tv does not have audio outs, you probably have to do what paragon did and hook it up to a vcr that does has audio outs...
  14. Sorry for bringing this page up fella... didnt know that arguements would arise upon it... just wanted everyone to be educated thatz all.... to educate yourself about the effects of changing speaker wire... please click on the below link... http://www.sundial.net/~rogerr/wire.htm if you want to argue... go hire a lawyer... =) next topic.... how many people think buying a higher octane gas will give better performance? Is 92 better than 87?
  15. 4.1.... 4 sats at 60W, 1 sub at 160W 4.2.... 4 sats at 35W, 2 subs at 130W both total wattage output is 400W... the only tough decision between choosing the two is whether you like to play your music louder and have more power... or if you want an extra sub so you can have bass in front or in back of you (slightly more surround effect) also, some other difference... the 4.2's have an actual power switch on the sub while the 4.1's have a "standby" button. There are two control pods to keep track of on the 4.2's instead of just one on the 4.1's. Both have headphone jacks and line-in's. Here's where you want to check if you want to compare the two for yourself.... http://www.klipsch.com/promedia/pm21specs.html http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/reviews/klipsch/pmv2-400.html couldn't find a link from klipsch for the 4.1 specs because i think they are updating thier web site...
  16. You want more power? How bout buying 3 4.1 systems... getting 3 two to one plug adapters and plugging one set of 4.1's into the fronts, one set of 4.1's to the rears, and the last set of 4.1's into the center... now if that's not enought power... i dont know what is.... unless you buy more adapters and more klipsch sets... and hook those up ...(klipsch will be very happy you are their customer) P.S. If you live in California, this is not recommended, power outages will occur... hee he...
  17. You might not need a Y jack adapter, but here are some choices you might want to think about... 1)Get 2 adapters that convert the plugs on ur promedia's to male rca plugs that can go into the left and right outputs of either your TV or DVD player... The down side of this is that one set of your 2.1's will play the left channel while the other... the right channel... not front or rear... keep in mind that these are analog connected speakers which means you proabably need some kind of decoder such as a sound card or receiver if you want the channels separted a certain way... Not too sure... but the above should give you sound... 2)Find an adapter (or make one) that goes into the line in on the control pod and has a male rca plug to go into the DVD/TV 3)Find an adapter (or make one) that goes into your soundcard line in and has two male rca plugs at the end (some sound cards may not have a line in... check with the manufacture's book or something). That's about all i can think of right now... maybe someone else has another way of doing it... but i think the very first suggestion is the cheapest way to go... By the way... how do you like ur 4.2's? Would you recommend them over the 4.1's?
  18. Does anyone have both the 4.1's and the 4.2's and can recommend which one to get? The 4.1's are rated at a higher power output and was wondering if that made a huge difference over the 4.2's. These ratings are in Watts RMS right? Not peak power? Thanks
  19. I've been using soundforge 4.5 with the mp3 plug in for all my mp3 encoding to 320 kbs. It sounds okay 2 me, plus the fact that when you use the batch converter with it, you dont have to encode each song individually. Just set it up, sit back, and let the computer do it's job. It encodes kinda slow though... This program is also kinda pricy but it does the job and allows you to edit audio files of many types. Dont know how these files will sound to you though.... Just remember for all those out there that don't know... NEVER EVER decode an mp3 to a wav and then encode it back... this will degrade the sound (give you a WORSE sounding mp3)!!! For example.... dont decode a 128 kbs into a wav and then encode it to 320 kbs expecting it to be better... Do everyone in the mp3 world a favor and spread the word... keep these mp3 files clean... we all know what a bad file sounds like... it doesnt take a good ear to hear one...
  20. Here's a lil somthing i found about speaker wire... for those of you interested in reading... http://www.sundial.net/~rogerr/wire.htm
  21. Since they are both the same speakers, one is being driven by almost less than half the power of the other. Doesn't under driving tend to cause harm to speakers? thanks
  22. According to some specs, the sats for the 4.1 system are 4 by 60 watts. For the 2.1 system, they are 2 by 35 watts. Does anyone know if these two speakers are the same speakers but with different amps? Or are they different speakers with different amps? I'm wondering about this because i'd like to know what would happen if you had the 4.2 system and just happened to get your hands on a cp-1 amp and hooked it up. Also, that goes for my question about the subs too... thanks...
  23. Itz not really that they are charged with electricity... just given a certain amount of charge. Almost everything in the world is made up of charges wether they're positive, negative, or neutral. There'z 2 ways that the printer can work... 1)The ink drop is shot out and the computer is able to control the amount of charge itz given. This ink then goes through a fixed electric field caused by some deflecting plates that "guide" it onto the paper. or... 2)The ink drop is shot out and given a fixed amount of charge, then computer controls the electric field that "guides" the drop onto the paper. Both ways would work, but the bottom line is if the charge is positive and the electric field is oriented a certain way... letz say both plates are negative, one less negative than the other... then the drop will be attracted towards the more negative side (opposites attract). Controling this field or the charge on the drops can be used to shoot out the ink in almost any direction.
  24. Here's the answer to your next question... "How do inkjet printers put out ink?" Tiny drops of ink are charged (positive or negative) and sent through what are called deflection plates. These deflection plates control the direction of the drop by varying the electric field around it. This way, the computer or printer controls how the ink is put out....
  25. does anyone know the current price for shipping for the new 4.1? thankz...
