  1. This one won the picture shuffle. Tis the coming season
  2. A different direction would be sell the KG's to a friend, keep your 1513 and take that additional money and apply them to a set of Forte's or Chorus. This makes the most sense and in the long run I know you would be glad you did it. I could never sell the K04's they have sentimental value . However it's looking more and more likely that I will have to go the powered sub route. I just can't believe I cannot find an amp that will power these K04's. It's gotten to the point that I would do just about anything for a modern amp with HDMI switching that could properly push these K04's! Again, thank you everyone for your help and patience. I never thought finding a proper amp would be so difficult. I'd be happy to pay for an amplifier that would do what I needed. The problem i'm finding is that it doesn't exist anymore There are plenty of AVR's that will push the KG's, but finding a new one that will do it for $300 its a little harder.

  4. The 1513 would fair better with just about any Klipsch speaker other than the KG4's. They are a 4 ohm speaker and on top of that, they are less efficient than most of the Klipsch line. (94db) This will stress all entry level AVR's. I would get the most power I was willing to spend on.
  5. Amen. The 1513 is a $99.00 dollar new AVR refurb with a full warranty. Im sure its not liking the 4 ohm rated 94db Kg4 anyway. Don't get me wrong, Im a really big Denon fan, but Im thinking that new unit maybe really thin. Start your replacement research here. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/category/avreceiver/home-audio/home-theater-receivers/1.html
  6. i'm going on a limb here, but i am betting that the belles will beat the rf-7ii and the just destroy the rc-64ii. Yeah, a taste of the heritage and nothing else will fill the gap from here on out. Well done on the score Taz.
  7. Thats too bad. They should have been able to spot that immediately. I too contacted Klipsch a few months back with the good people in Hope on a set of replacement networks. They then directed me to the Indy outfit where they said I would have to go through. I talked to a gentleman that was knowledgable on exactly what I needed. He said to give him 3 days or so to get the info and prices out to me. Never heard back from him, email or phone. Pretty disappointing coming from a company that produces a product we all can't do without.
  8. Yep, pretty good guys to stop and pull old manuals and another bag and then send them to a 3rd party for you. Give us an update when the big 105 shows up. Are you going to run analog out of it? I was thinking about giving this a shot, but I didn't know if the DAC is my receiver was inferior to what is in the 103. Heck, the multi channel stuff is so good with a basic HDMI hookup, I probably won't ever mess with it.
  9. Shoot, don't worry about my threads. I always enjoy when threads take a turn and I end up learning something that I wasn't looking for. As far as the different DAC's go, Im not up to speed on all of them, but Im sure someone will step up that is. I was after a good midrange universal player for a decent price. After hum hawing around, I decided just to spend a little more and go with the Oppo. I have heard their service is top notch and I like the fact that building U players is all they do. Its their "forte" so to speak Heck, I just saw where you have a 105 on the way.....ooooh, Im jealous! As good as my 103 sounds, I can't see you not being thrilled with the better components with the 105. Kudos!
  10. Why is it that balanced connections on amps usually have a slightly less SNR ratio? Are there other benefits that out-weigh this other than having really long runs?
  11. Just got it set up late last night, just going the easy HDMI connection for now. I already had a Blu Ray player, but It wouldn't play SACD's so this was my first opportunity to listen to my Dark Side SACD. All I can say is wow. I have never heard Dark Side sound so good with such clarity and dynamics. I also had time to pop in Steely's Gaucho DVDA, Zeppelin's Celebration Blu Ray Audio, which was their last get together in 2007 with Bonhams son playing drums. I also snuck in Rush's Moving pictures Blu ray Audio. All the Audio disks just confirmed how its a shame we all cant listen to everything in a lossless format. Back to the Player, I stuck Avatar in and started messing with the Darbee settings and immediately was glad I spent the extra $100. What already looked really good before was suddenly transformed into what looked to be a full step above the normal BluRay format. I had contemplated for a few months on picking up a Marantz or Denon refurb and save $250, but Im really glad I went with the Oppo and now see what all the fuss is about. Hopefully, this player will be up to snuff for the next 5-10years
  12. US Treasuries don't pay more than Bank CD's. Its actually considered the safest, yet weakest return you can get. .43% for two years 2-Year 0.25 2016-02-29 99-21¼ / 0.43 +0.02 / -1 03/25/2014 10-Year 2.75 2024-02-15 100-00½ / 2.75 -0.17 / +2 03/25/2014 30-Year 3.63 2044-02-15 100-19½ / 3.59 -0.55 / +3 03/25/2014
  13. Buy longer debt..... Seriously, guaranteed investment products aren't money makers, even if you wanted to tie your money up for a decade or three. Even then, all usual debt products are subject to interest rate risk, which can put you in a pickle if early liquidity becomes an issue. IMO, look at short BB rated bonds. Stick to a maximum of two year maturities. Also, you might want to check out some preferred stock that is paying a decent dividend and has a consistent track record on the equity pricing. You want state backing? Check out some tax free school bonds, yields are much lower, but you get to skip out of state taxes and the G.O.'s (general obligation) are usually backed by the state taxing authority.
  14. New or vintage? I would have to buy used for any of the Mac offerings for the sake of cost. This would definitely put me in a old mc275. As far as the used Mac SS amps go, that would be a tough choice and I honestly don't know which older two channels are a favorite in the cost effective point of view. I would likely just buy a used mc 7205 or 7206 and use it for 2 channel as well as theater use even though the sound may be a tad under some of the old school amps.
  15. Those things don't appear to have been used enough to even draw any dust up in them. The tops of those caps are shining like they just got boxed up in hope. You scored big time!
  16. All paths lead to nowhere? Not in this case!
  17. Last year just about this time we drove up to Eugene to pick up the wife Chorus speakers, this sounds like fun. I seem to remember seeing a lot of those same people when I was 17 and trippin........ The guy with the tall hair looks like a guy that did some work for us. He said he worked security at the Fair. Hippies are scary man!
  18. You will have the woulda, shoulda, coulda forever when it comes to amps. IMO, if you want to put an end to it, buy a Mac mc275 or a SS Mac amp and call it a day. You never go wrong buying McIntosh and you can always get your money back if you decide to sell. If you want a budget setup and aren't head over heals for tubes, look at the DIY Class A kits.
  19. Other than the X-over, the custom mid horn and various bracing, they're stock per the article. I really like how he went the painted route, and a different color direction than I have ever seen anyone take. I counted on them having a 2 inch mid driver, but even with the 55, they have to sound great. Here is info about these unusual LaScalas and matching subwoofer. Thanks for posting Mach1. Seeing projects like this really makes me want to dust the cobwebs off the table saw .
  20. That may be a new leader right there, retro color and all. Anyone know the history behind these? Custom Volti's?
  21. If you're cutting wood and going with custom mids and what not, consider building a set of Jub clones. If your wanting a ported box, look at a Cornscala that Bob offers in many different setups. He will build them for you if you like as well. Used, stock, Industrial La Scalas will be hard to beat as far as cost effectiveness goes and like someone else mentioned, will be very marketable if you choose to sell in the future. http://www.critesspeakers.com/cornscala.html
  22. I hope people don't try and crash his funeral in retaliation. That would just fuel and reinforce the twisted logic of the evil family members. He deserves nothing but to be forgotten immediately. The media should just give a response that reads Fred Phelps....DEAD and that's it. As far as the rest of that bunch that continues their evil work, they deserve a throat punch.
  23. Are you comparing two channel listening in the theater or multi channel? Three LaScalas on a 17.5 foot wall isn't going to offer much separation and would give off a mono sounding soundstage IMO. If your just listening to the two La Scalas, maybe they are too low for the seating position? Are they towed in at all? You could get some response figures using a mic and some software to see what you're hearing and what you're not. Having 4, 18's playing could be covering some of the content coming from the Scalas as well. You might want to post some pics as that would help. You will get some good insight from the people that have similar setups here.
