  1. What is the best way to get motor oil out of concrete. My lawn mower leaked enough to put a 15 inch circle of oil on my back porch. I did not see it for a few days. Is there some tried and true miracle solution to removing it? I tried soaking it and scrubbing it with Simple Green. Thanks, Wrinkles
  2. Comet, Good Question. I hope I can answer it effectively. I have not heard the 902 drivers. Only about how gerat they are. The day after I had heard the Jubilees, I played all the same music (over 3 hours worth) on my system comparing my memory of the details I had heard on the Jubilees to my LaScala/Altec/JBL combination. In comparison, I was very disatisfied with the sound. I began removing excess furniture, guitars hanging around, and anything that might interfere with the sound stage. I began pushing the LaScalas back towards my so-called corners. The sound really opened up and sounded the best I had ever heard it. I was thinking that maybe it was 80-85% of what I had heard the previous day on the Jubilees and that maybe, I could forget about the Jubilees. After a few days, without changing the room any, the sound or my enthusiam for what I was hearing began to wane. The stage presentation I had heard before was no more. Had I been only super-enthused with the new sound I thought I had acquired from moving the LaScalas around or was it really just never there at all at the level I thought had been hearing. The mind can play games you know. I moved around the LaScalas a bit more, tweeked on the L-pads a little, but I could not get it back. However, they still sounded pretty darn good with what I was hearing, but I kept thinking about the wow factor the Jubilees gave. The bass bin and the K402 seemed to be made for each other. To me it was the K402 horn that floated my boat. I had read in previous post about how the LaScala bass bin created a pretty good combination with the K403. The LaScala bass is what it is, predictable on the low end and lots of horn speed and punch. So, I orderd the K402 horns the next day. I also ordered the Crowns also. For anyone interested, they were the cheapest on the net at $404.00 each to my door from DJDEALS.COM in Burlington Vermont o Texas. Two weeks later I had everything up and running. Now, I have never heard a sound stage like the K402s present. The room is completely filled with music. It is obviously the magic of the horns. I have been through open baffle( DQ10s ), electrostatic (Quad 57) and point sources (LS3/5A) and line source (Bottlehead Straight 8s). They all have been great speakers and I still have all but the Quads. Maybe, Craigslist is calling. Anyway, now I feel like the search is over. I do not even want to listen to any other speakers I can think of out there. I am a satisfied and very happy camper. The sound stage is wonderful. The reproduction of the frequencies in the K402 is very balanced and I feel the highs are just right. I may still do the bass bin mod to the LaScalas, tho. If you get a chance, you need to listen to the K402 and K69 combination, either in the Jubilee or JubScala setup. It is that good. I really like the speed and punch of the LaScala bass bins and may not acquire the Jubilee bass bin. The LaScala does not go as low as the Jubilee bass bin. I'll let someone who has both the JubScalas and Jubilees speak with more authority on the differences. My memory of the full jubilee particulars is fading. I might need a refresher. My speaker search is over. WOW Wrinkles
  3. Santa came early. Just like the missus said he could. The Altec 511s and the JBL 2404s are removed. They will not be coming back, as long as the I have the K402s. The K402s/K69 setup is soooo good. I have never heard better music in my house. They really sound wonderful. This was nothing short of a major jump in room filling sound quality. I am using the Crown XTI1000s. The program for the DSP works really well. I have listened many hours since the K402s on Thursday. LaScala owners really need to listen to this. Thanks Roy for making this opportunity available. Wrinkles
  4. Thanks Marvel. Exactly what I was looking for. Wrinkles
  5. Thankyou Bruce, How critical is the cubic inches inside? IS there a certain volume the mod is shooting for? For example, if the 10 inch tall box is made out of 5/8 inch, 1/2 inch ply, 7/8 inch or whatever, is the difference critical enough to warrant only using 3/4 inch ply? Since I'll have the large horns on top, 3/4 sounds like the way to go for the needed strength and additional weight. Have a great day. Wrinkles
  6. Bruce, I am interested. I will not be moving on it soon, but maybe late spring or summer. I will have little time until then. Are these web addresses or paper info? Wrinkles
  7. Bill, I received the files. Thankyou. My recent question seems to have been confusing. I will attempt to reword. Sorry. The question stems from a thread I started the middle of last year on the use of the ported Bass Bin modification where a chamber is placed under the LaScalas and the doghouse floor removed allowing the LaScala bass to supposedly extend down into the low 30s . In that thread a contributor discussed the probable need for frequency boost down in that frequency area. So, my question is can the Crowns, in the software, boost that area of the frequency band at the same time it is providing the necessary adjustments presently provided in the files provided? It seems that an area of weakness in the LaScala non-version 2 is the limited low end. If I felt that the bass from the LaScala bins was not deep enough, then I was thinking ahead as to how to remedy this. One option is of course subwoofers, but I'm not sure I would want to use up anymore real estate. I hope I reworded the question better. So, has anyone ventured down this path using Jubscalas with bass bin mod? Thanks everyone, Wrinkles
  8. JWCullison, I have not heard of anyone doing this yet, but with all the discussion a while back about the LaScala bass bin mod, just maybe this would be something someone will attempt and place the 402 on top. I will eventually, but not in the short term near future. I do not even have the 402s yet (ordered however). I will be using the Crowns XTI1000 amps and not knowing much about the amps now, I wonder about the EQ that was stated as necessary for the bass bin mod. How much can be EQ'd with these amps and with the LaScala program that is recommended to be used, would it cover the lower frequencies that probably would need a boost at the same time EQing the recommended fequencies? Any thoughts, anyone? I'm just trying to look ahead. Wrinkles
  9. Well Guys and Gals, I did not blow my budget, at least not totally. I ordered the 402 horns with K69 drivers and ordered the the Crown XTI1000 amps. The horns will go on top of my LaScalas. So, for now at least, JubScalas for me. Should this not live up to my expectations, then the Jubilee bass bins will be next. Thanks for all your valuable input. This website is really great. Thanks Everyone, Wrinkles
  10. Congratulations Travis, I am still in the decision making process for the mid-horns or the full monty. What does DCR in "DCR Jubilees" stand for? Will the raw African Mahogany be used all around or just on the front panel piece? Please include pictures of the finished speaker. I may have to make a trip to your Klipsch/Jub Fest. Wrinkles
  11. In response: 1. If you can fit JubeScalas somewhere then you can fit the Jubilee and have better bass even if it's away from a corner. (Better Bass is good) 2. Only you can decide if it's too big for your tastes, but if you are contemplating JubeScalas, then I'd daresay it's a near draw? (It is not the size, but the adequacy of the room as in my proximity to the HF horns being an overpowering stage and the low frequency needing more space to develop) 3. You near enough Dallas/Waco/Austin to hear one of the current pair and decide for yourself if you have to have them? (Arlington Texas,is where I had my gallon drink of the kool-aid, Jubilees were about 2 months old) Thanks, Wrinkles
  12. My room is 18 feet deep, 15 feet across...I can only put Jubilees on the 15 foot side in front of 2 windows, one speaker's left edge would be about 1'2" from the left corner due to a bookcase and the other about the same from the other corner as I have builtin shelving floor to ceiling for a length of 9 feet into the room. Ceiling is 10 feet. Is low frequency development in this setup going to be my limiting factor? Or with a chair or sofa on the back walk that has a semi dead reflection factor also going to be major factor? I guess to reword the question, are the Jubilees too big for a room this size and would a JubScala be better in this situation? I do not want to decide on a Jubilee and find it unmanageable in a room this size. Thanks, Wrinkles
  13. Toolman, Wherever there is metal to metal contact on a voltage signal transfer connection, you can have a resistance buildup between the two metals causing a high resistance buildup or an open audio signal path. FIrst thing I would do would be to loosen the terminals screws at the terminal block one at a time. If they are rusty looking you may want to clean them with alcohol or a wire brush. Retighten snug tight. IF this did not fix the situation, then I would remove each wire from the speaker driver one at a time and clean it in a similar way. Reconnect it ensuring the connection is snug or tight. One wire at a time prevents miswiring. Often, speaker problems are only the wire connections. Sometimes the drivers are hosed from being over driven or from foam rot. Since your woofer fires only sometmes I would suspect termination problems only. $200 is a good deal. Wrinkles
  14. The Electrovoice Dx38 2-in4 digital loudspeaker processor with x-over, EQ, delay, compressor/limiter, front-panel display, PC Remote software (RACE) SIGNAL PROCESSORS Electronic Crossover-Equalizers D170348 Telex EV Electrovoice ($1288 to $1600) I thought this was a passive crossover. It never dawned on me that it was an active crossover. Now, I see how you can use a tubed amp on the upper and the Crown on the Lower. You had me scratcing my head there. But, does Klipsch not offer a passive? Mike, Thanks for your reply, Wrinkles
  15. Coytee, She is GOLDEN, she is not a "gotcha" planner. Sometimes, when doors open, you need to go through them before they close. I just got back from an early Valentines Day dinner with her. She is totally supportive. I was thinking about starting to brew some beer and ale (you know, buy the equipment, mix, wait 2 months, and enjoy). I'll probably put that on hold for a while. Actually, I am not familiar with the Dx38 other than it being a passive crossover. Is it located at the speaker itself or at the output of your preamp? For real estate purposes, what is the length across the front and the depth of one side? You guys are getting me ever closer to blowin the budget. And the problem with the Texas count going up is...? How many Jubilees are out there? Thanks, Wrinkles
  16. Rigma, Thankyou for the invite. Sounds like a possible family vacation trip idea ! Your 300Bs, are they SET or push pull setup? Have you listened with tube type 2A3s or 45s? If so, what do you feel is the minimum power requirements for a full Jubilee setup? Was the passive crossover Klipsch provided or did you build it yourself? And the big question is how much was the crossoever? PM me if desired. Is it due to the convenience of an active crossover for Jubilee owners to primarily use the Crown XTi1000 amplifiers or is the adjustment play factor that the Crowns provide? 275 watts into 8ohms!!! Smokin'. Seems like alot of overkill for a home setup. Almost dangerous to the speakers. The XTi1000 amps I heard really sounded good tho. If only Crown made a 50 watt XTi. Thanks Rigma, Wrinkles
  17. Thanks Dean and Coytee, That was some awesome kool-aid. Dean, did you add the bass bin mod to your LaScalas? Or did the corner placement help give you the response to 40 hertz? I can get within 10 inches of the corner. Before deciding on what type of crossover setup, I really would like to hear a passive crossover with the Jubilees. It is kinda a choice between solid state electronic noise or vacuum tube hum, both of which disappear when playing music. You know, if you add the bass bin mod under the LaScala you would lift it up to almost the level of the full Jubilee height. Thanks for the advice. Wrinkles
  18. This weekend, I experienced what some of you have already and that was to hear a pair of the Jubilees K402/K69 setup. I was wowed. I was awestruck. I was floored. These speakers grab your attention, and make you sit up and take notice. The Jubilees to me, are undoubtedly, the best speaker I have ever heard. They were situated in the corners of a room, powered by the Crown Xti1000 amps. Remarkable. It was an experience that I will not forget. Everyone must get out and listen to these speakers. I do not know why Klipsch does not actively market these. I have the LaScalas with 511B horns and JBL 2404H tweeter setup and I thought they sounded darn good. Well, they do, but not like the Jubilees. Jubilees are in a totally different league. What I liked most about the Jubilees was the room filling sound quality, the effortless frequency transition from the bass bin to the horn and the balanced frequency response. I ran over 3 hours worth of music I had picked out to try to find the strengths and weaknesses. I did not find any weaknesses. What I found was over 3 hours of pure music listening joy. Often, I found the musicians singing to me right in front of me and my foot tapping seemed non-stoppable. Truly amazing. What a pleasure. I’m looking around the house for things I can sell, dog, cat, car, etc.. I would like to publicly thank Chris in Arlington, Texas for allowing complete strangers to enter his house and audition the Jubilees. With so few Jubilee setups out there, this seems like the only way to get the word out to other audiophiles as to just how good audio reproduction can be. Thanks Chris for your generosity. Jubilee owners, open your doors. Charge admission (you know beer, music, snacks). Questions I have though..... Comparing Jubilees in corners and not in corners. What differences should be expected? I really do not have any corners, only windows and built-in bookcases. How big is the low frequency drop off if any? I’m a tube guy. I use tube type 2A3s. Any differences in crossover slopes and frequency response of the passive crossovers? Is SET 2A3 enough power? I am watching closely the Jubescala thread. I think the idea of placing the 402 on top of the LaScala is the most affordable for me and many other audiophiles. I hope Klipsch or someone takes the lead and provides fairly simple directions for making this happen. I can see doing this within my budget. My wife says, blow the budget. Order the Jubilees, Christmas is coming. Just do it. Bless her soul, if only she worked outside the home. I love her support. I’m thinking about it, tho. I hope ya’ll did not mind my babbling. You really need to hear these. It may change your views on large horn speakers. It has mind. Wrinkles
  19. I saw them too. Nice looking pair. If I did not already have a pair I would seriously consider them. I do not need 2 pair right now. Wrinkles
  20. What about the KP 201? Did it come as Version I or II? And would the upgrade kit work for it as well? Wrinkles
  21. I had to "Continue Shopping" to add another plate to the list. The number updated automatically, along with the S&H charge. Wrinkles
  22. Amy, I'm in for two plates. How about coffee cups? Wrinkles
  23. MAS, I picked up the SONY VRD-MC5 for $199 at CircuitCity after reading the many writeups and reviews. I think it will work out just fine. Thanks for the recommendations. Wrinkles
  24. Nope. At least not until a few minutes ago on answers.com. Must have been before I cared about politics or before my time (in 1970 I was 14 years old). The only things I remember about Agnew was his polical position, golf game and strange name. And prior to seeing the quote I use somewhere, I had never seen his name. From Answers.com.... "Nattering nabobs of negativism" is one of the most popular turns of phrase associated with U.S. Vice President Spiro T. Agnew, who served under Richard Nixon until resigning in October 1974, after pleading no contest to charges of tax fraud. Agnew, who had a particularly acrimonious relationship with the press, used this term to refer to the members of the media, whom he also deemed "an effete corps of impudent snobs." According to the Congressional Record, this term was first used during Agnew's address to the California Republican state convention in San Diego on September 11, 1970. In context, it was used together with another well-known Agnew alliteration: "In the United States today, we have more than our share of the nattering nabobs of negativism. They have formed their own 4-H Club -- the "hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history." Although this phrase is often credited to Agnew himself, it was actually written by William Safire, the legendary columnist for The New York Times, who was a speechwriter for Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew. Some of Agnew's other pearls were actually written by Patrick Buchanan, another White House speechwriter at the time. Thanks for the education. Wrinkles
  25. Many of my recordings of TV shows are beginning to deteriorate. Often the tuner cannot use the recorded signal. Those unusable tapes I believe are history, however, I have many more that play well. Most of the shows are for children (I have 4) and I want to preserve the recorded content as long as possible, maybe so grandkids can watch when that part of my life occurs. Many of these shows are not shown anymore. Are there any decent VHS to DVD recorders available? Do the recorders allow the starting and stopping of the copying process to allow the removal of commercials or the addition of a show from another VHS tape? Thanks, Wrinkles
