My M40 do sound very good. I still like my x10s better. I do agree that the noise cancelling function is a bit wanting compared to the similarly priced sennhieser pxc 450.

I am really liking the Mode M40s with the FIIO amp. They do not sound as good as my X10 without the amp. They are almost as good as the X10 with the amp. The X10 are a slight bit more dynamic. I would put them in the same class as the Sennheiser PXC450. The cables are very nice and the fit and finish is good.

Just got my mode headphones and listened without my fiio amp. They sound very good with my iPhone alone. I will try with the amp tomorrow.

I wanted to post about a piece of digital gear I heard on a friends system. My friend has a much higher end system than mine that I have heard it many times with many different pieces of gear. He was trying out a Classe preamp from our local high end store. It was a game changer. The Classe is very impressive even with low density iphone music files. Very sweet vinyl-like sound. It also sounds like they must have some really tiny tubes on the circuit boards. I was prepared for my friend's system to bring out the flaws in a "jack of all trades" type of DAC but it did not. Instead it really delivered. I think he should save his pennies for this thing. I also want to borrow it again in a few weeks and pair it with my computer and use the pure vinyl as a phono stage and run 24/192 files through the DAC for playback. Should be pretty impressive. Unfortunately I am now thinking that I need a ADC/DAC upgrade. If you need a pre and/or a DAC make sure you put this on your audition list. Given all this gushing I want to note that I am not associated with classe in any way.

I understand your frustration. I think the stain relief should have been redesigned by now. Is also think the design is the reason they do not lend themselves to repair. The small design is also why they fit me so well. I will probably get another pair with the controls for the iphone 4s and be carefully to only remove them by the ear pieces rather than pulling on the cords on occasion. Even with the drawbacks they are the best fitting and sounding portable phones for me.

Mine were just out of warranty with the same damage I though of putting some heat shrink electrical tubing over the cracked area. I was thinking the more flexible adhesive type rather than the harder and shinier plastic type. I never did it because I remembered that american express extended the manufacture's coverage if you buy with your card so I got coverage from them. I do not know about repairs but those are some tiny wires and housings that do not seem to lend themselves to repair.

I finally gave up my Android phone in favor of an iphone 4s. I have several earphones but none have microphones or buttons. I am interested in the x10i because I love my original x10s with the exception of cracked wire housing at the earpieces. In addition I am also considering the new M40s for air travel. Can anyone at Klipsch (or anyone else) tell me if any of the phones allow control of the Suri feature in the iphone 4s? If not, are there any plans to do so? Also have any redesigns or material changes taken place to address the x10 ear piece cracking issue?

There is a new over the ear headphone called the Mode M40 that started shipping in the last week or so. I am holding out until I have a chance to hear them.

I totally disagree on this. I've have the x10's S4's and Custom 2's. All of them are more refined with a headphone amp. I have the Headamp Pico. The reason I say this, is that your iphone and most other portables devices cheap out on the amp section to have the battery last longer. With the Pico, I find that I get a stronger, tigher/deeper response. The headphone amp is like a capacitor you put next to you sub-woofer amp in the car. It helps give the headphones the proper juice they want/need. I agree. Even an inexpensive amp made a big difference for my X5, X10, Grado 325 and Shure 840s. I went with a Fiio E11 for about $70.

Still prefer my cornscalas over all the stuff I cycled trough my room.

They do not sit comfortably in my ears either. But the x5 and x10 work great.

I love mine. Mine is motorized and I use the ng fluid.

A good friend got me into klipsch speakers. Luckily I have heard almost all of the heritage line in his living room including the belles. In his room, which is a close to perfect khorn room by the way, the belles are squarely between the khorns and lascalas for me. They have most of the impact and mid base of the lascala but they do not go quite as low or as big as the khorns. The final horn effect of using the walls is grand in the right room, Unfortunately my room is not the right room. The belles are also tougher to find, at least for me.

I have all three and I would be happy if I had to live with any single pair. They all have been modified with replacement mid horns, new crossover networks and new tweeters. They all benefited from the modifications. But the cornscalas benefited the most. I have rotated them in and out of my room and the cornscalas seem to stay the longest. The lascalas have the best mid bass. The khorn is the best overall speaker but my room does not allow them to be their best. The cornscala has the best overall balance in my room. The mid base can be a slightly muddy in comparison but that does not detract from the overall balance and listening ease. They also seem to perform better at lower volumes for me. Just jot a pair of walnut khorns. They need a little corner repair but overall in good shape with removable tophats and AA networks. I am thinking of trying my lascala upgrades on them. The upgrades consist of Gothovers drop in wood horns, Crites ct125 tweeter and ALK AP12-500/ES5800. Will this work?

I have tried a c22, a c2200, a c220, a c46 and a mx117. I stayed with a refurbished c11 with telefunken tubes (thanks Noah). All have strengths but I "live in midrange" and the c11 does it best. In the c22xx Question I prefer the c22, closest to the c11. As a previous poster mentioned a pair of mc75s is the way to go.

Consider some mid horns from Dave Harris and some ALK crossovers. I also posted a picture of a different riser treatment. Consider bracing the back panel with a internal cross brace and use some thin weather treatment.
