I struggled with what sounds like the problem for over a year in almost square room. Square is bad. I lost mid base in my square room. Your room is slightly larger so your loss is a little lower it seems. The label for the problem is mode cancellation. Same principal as noise cancelling earphones. The bass sound waves in a square room meet each other and there is an elimination. I tried a ton of absorption and acoustic treatments and it helped but the only solution for me was to move to a different room. Ironically the best sounding speakers (I tried many) in that room were horns. The bad room had me trying everything i could find and that is how I discovered that horns were for me.

I have a piece of studio type gear who's dac performed well enough for me to sell my wavelength brick. It is a $400 TC Electric Impact Twin. It is a 24/192 output and input. I use the input for raw vinyl recordings that run through a program called Pure Vinyl on a Apple Mac Mini.

I can not speak for the technical reasons for error correction. I had a couple discussions with Gordon Rankin of Wavelength and he believes it is important to the quality of the DAC output. He knows his stuff so I mentioned it in my post. I know the data is digital but the code that the digital data passes through is key. The better the code suits a purpose the better the result. Some code is written to do a lot of things well. Some code is written to do specialized things. I think such things a dithering, upsampling and buffering are important parts of the code. As I said I am not technically knowledgeable about the workings of Pure Music but it is specialized code that sounds much better to me. This quality improvement was not stealthy in my opinion it was obviously better. (cleaner, more dynamic and spacial). Robert Robinson of Pure Music has some white papers and some research links on his site if you want to learn more.

I use a mac mini because there is no fan noise. I like the ease of ripping lossless to itunes. Be sure to use error correction when ripping. The library functions really well. I use a firewire 2 tb drive. I also use a software called Pure Music ($129) that runs with itunes. It grabs the data files and uses its own up sampling program which far better than the itunes output. Up until a couple of weeks ago I used a Wavelenth USB tube DAC with great sounding results. I would have been very happy to keep this setup but I got the sister program to Pure Music called Pure Vinyl and I started recording my vinyl to 24/192 raw files. The term raw files means that no RIAA equalization curve has been applied to the recording. The RIAA stuff is applied by the software with none of the distortion that comes from a hardwired phono stage. The recording quality is almost as good as the standard vinyl playback but much more convenient. In order to record the raw file you need a microphone preamp. I got a TC Electric Impact Twin on the recommendation of the guy who developed Pure Vinyl. I had to give up the 24/92 wavelength because the software requires both input and output be the same and I wanted to record vinyl at 24/192. The DAC output on the impact twin is almost as good as the very expensive wavelentgh. Now every time I sit down for a vinyl session I record as I listen. I am a "listen to the whole album" person so I do not break down the tracks. The file sizes can be 1.5 to 2 GB for a single album. I drop them into itunes and they are there for the clicking. Sorry to go on when you only asked about servers.

Very sweet saw. There is nothing like having the right (and best) tool for the job. I bet it will make the best saw dust ever.

I have a plan for templates with heavy brown paper. Mark them with a pencil and use scissors to cut the template 1/8' to large. I replace template in the area and do the final razor knife trim with a ruler/putty knive and the paper taped in place. I would do the horizontal surfaces first and the vertical second to help hide the lower seam corners which be the most visable. I will let you how the plan comes out and if any adjustment are need in my "best laid plans".

I second everything Wm Mcd said. I would also start with "heat lock" glue with the paper back veneer. Also a get a good veneer edge trimmer. Also, also, oakwood suppy is also a good veneer source.

I had a eastern electric mini max phono stage at the time I did that test. It had high mc, low mc and mm inputs. I still have the 2m black and the zu. The zu is still my favorite. Its performance has been boosted by the use of a ortofon as309s arm and a step up transformer into the mm input of my conrad johnson PV5. My second choice is a benz mico ace high output. Sorry I do not know antyhing about the 20xl.

Are going to install the tender feet points on the plinth? I thought they firmed up the sound a bit.

Do you have some pictures of the crossovers, bass constriction tuning and top hat back panel. How much of the top hat volume did you need to use?

They are very pretty. I have long term plan to build some wood horns. The jubilee bases on your site would be a nice bin. I also kind of like the integrated design of the JBL synthesis horns. I may even carve my own tweeter horns. Who knows. Probalbly easier to buy them from you. It looks like I would have a lot to learn to run that behringer. How is the DAC quality? Also, how do you have the three T amps configured...What drives what? I have a nuforce icon which is a similar amp technology that drives some heresies in my shop. It is suprizingly good for 12 watts per channel. Any new ideas in the pipeline?

Outstanding. The pretty factor is very high no matter what they sound like. Do you have details or a link on the $1,000 pre and amp. To say that they are the best you have ahd in your room is high praise. If only I had corners.

It is funny. I did not know anything about R2R decks and then I got the Teac A6010 in a package deal with some Aztec speakers. I cleaned it up and sold it. The guy who bought it brought it back. I figured out how to align the heads and got some prerecorded tapes from a friend. He said they should sound pretty good. I tried one and it was ok but not what I expected. Weeks later I discovered a tape in the pile with a higher tape speed. The higher tape speed was much better. My deck lacks the dead quiet back ground but the analogue qualities do come out. There is also an audible fan motor noise in my deck. I may try and quiet it down some day. It has been fun to play with and it is certainly a curiosity to visitors.

I am glad that the table is working out. I credit your success to your patience with the setup. I am always nervous telling folks my opinion on how good vinyl rigs sound because there are so many set up varibles that play into a quality result. I still tweak the setup on mine from time to time to see if I am getting it all out on the table(?).

What did you do to tune the speakers?

I want to be sure what you mean by 45 degree reflectors. Are these the rectangular boxes in the bin with the 45 degree side? These are going to look great. What is your qualitative assessment? Do they sound more like a ported speaker or do they still have the reflex folded horn character?

Dave, I would like to veneer some horns and make a tweeter horn as well. I wonder if I could figure out how to mount a small wood horn on the crites CT125 driver. The bases look good. I was worried that the scale would not be right but you did a great job. I noticed the the top panel of the vented box blocks part of the dog house opening. Is this providing a baffle shelf effect similar to the cornwall?

Can't wait to hear your listening review. They look great. Cherry veneer will be very nice. How about some veneer on the mid horns along with a decorator look on the top box?

Would there be enough spacing to extend the ports in to the doghouse area?
