  1. Dave, It looks like the high frequency section got cut off. Are you bulding new section?
  2. Dave, Does your picture show that the network would be mounted outside in the recessed panel?
  3. I have a grado silver that was not so good on a debut III, ok on a thorens 124 with rega 300 and a thick mat, better on a thorens 150 with a rega 300, and best on a well tempered table with the well tempered arm. This gives you an idea of how a good cartridge can vary by the arm/table. I have never spent more than $900 for a cartridge. Most of mine are in the $300-$700 range. My thorens 124 with an ortofon AS309 arm is best with a Zu 103 or micro benz ace ho. To me they both sound better that the ortofon classic spu ($900 used). The rega arms do really well the ortofon m2 series of cartridges.
  4. I think Dave is referring to my adapters. I will vouch for the fit. The only time my horn has been a 1/4 inch to deep.
  5. We are the same age and I still don't understand half of your posts. I must have wasted a few years. Thanks for your continuing education attempts. Happy Birthday.
  6. My 12 inch sticks out into space (set up, I know). I put it on the left side of my rack to protect it. I have a larger plinth and a dust cover on my to do list. I envy your khorns. I wish I had good corners for them. I think the thorens, mcintosh, klipsch combination is hard to beat. Hey Pete!I see you run a MC2105 along with the tube monoblocks. Are you bi-amping the woofers with the 2105 on the Cornscalas? Herb No bi-amping just trying different gear. Ended up sticking with the mc75s. They sounded better than the mc2105 on all of my speakers.

  8. I agree the zu could use a guard. I am thinking I should carve one out of a piece of bass wood. I think I will try it. My best set up continues to be the zu on a ortofon as309s with a thorens td 124. I was surprised that it even sounded better than a ortofon spu classic on my system. My zu sounded best through a step up transformer I got for the spu so I sold the spu and kept the step up. I am playing with pure vinyl variable riaa software and I will try the zu with it this weekend and report my results. I hope you like your zu as much as I do.
  9. I got nothing. Great thread. Thanks for posting.
  10. I have had quite a few cartridges, tonearms and phone stages hooked up to my td 124. I think the best value to try first is the denon 103. I have the zu 103 and it still in my top three carts. It is currently mounted on a ortofon as309s tone arm. I also really liked the ortofon M2 series on an sme 3009 arm, an old ortofon SPU classic on a RMG arm, and a benz micro ace on a moded rega 300 arm. I am also currently playing with a pure vinyl computer software driven phono stage through a apogee duet. I have only tried for a couple of days and I have alot to learn but it sounds impressive so far.
  11. i have done a two pair and I can not explain how much better they are than stock. The finished project compares to speakers that cost more than ten times as much. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/127018/1316803.aspx#1316803
  12. Tweeter and crossover repairs or parts can be obtained from Bob Crites. Bob can likely recommend someone for woofer repairs. He has woofer replacements but I do not know if surface mounting is possible. If the replacements work you sell the one working woofer to offset the cost of a new pair. http://www.critesspeakers.com/prices-services.html
  13. I have my center channel speaker mounted against the ceiling. It has two 3/8' eye bolts mounted to back of the speaker and two matching 3/8" hooks mounted very high on the wall studs. The hardware is located closer to the top edge of the speaker. The bottom edge of the speaker rests against the wall. The space that the hardware needs behind the speaker creates a downward tilt which aims at the listener.
  14. I have the ortofon version of the jelco. I should have followed you guys and saved some money. Still sounds good though.
  15. There is nothing quite like tube bliss.
  16. Al, I understand your frustration. You have strong opinions and I enjoy the view points you present. There are many of us who know you have a business and also know you have experience. We are able to parse the two. Please continue to present your positions for the benefit of those of us who can think for ourselves. Thanks.
  17. Update. New set up with some McIntosh gear on loan. I love the McIntosh gear but I am struggling with the fact that this great sounding equipment does not have tubes. So much for horns and tubes I guess.
  18. I love my conscalas. I do not think anyone else can hear it but I think they sound better when you rebuild them yourself. What is the thinking on the re-wrapping with thick plywood and the strips on the top corners?
  19. Can you post some close up of the tweeter horns. Do you have any specifications so I can build some for my lascalas?
