  1. You do realize that there are a good amount of very crappy 4.1 boston multimedia systems, and the BA7800, available only from Gateway, is better than them all? ------------------ "Feh."
  2. I've heard the Altec 641, the Logitech z560, the Klipsch 4.1, and the Boston BA7800... You want the Bostons.... Do a seach at the 3dsoundsurge.com forums for some reviews of the Bostons, lol!! ------------------ "Feh."
  3. Dude, there are LOTS of other options other than the Klipsch 4.1!!! http://216.37.9.58/cgi-bin/ubb/postdisplay.cgi?forum=Forum23&topic=000970 ------------------ "Feh."
  4. *SCREAMS in fear* AHHHHH!!!! CALCULUS!!! EVIL!!! *gunshots are fired* .... Okay, okay, could anyone work this? I would LOVE to know how many continuous watts actually get put out..so as to compare this to, say, Videologic speakers? ------------------ "Feh." 5. I'm just reviving this old thread.... What is the RMS into 4 and 8 ohms, like Sevrin said?? ------------------ "Feh."
  6. I dunno... I like Hi-Fi, something that strives for accuracy and truthfulness, not Mid-Fi, something that is married to this or that design, and thereby, this or that 'sound'. The less signature sound, the better! ------------------ "Feh."
  7. Sorry--I have a vendetta against highs that are too much up front. It's fatiguing to me, and I like having some depth in my soundstage. I guess am slightly biased against the Klipsch multimedia sound...oh, and, note that I haven't had a decent demo of the 5.1's.... ------------------ "Feh." 8. Well, I went to a Gateway store, and had a chance to demo the BA7800's for myself.... And Oh My God... These speakers KICK ***!! The highs and mids were clear, the bass was respetably tight (they could have been set up better, but I could tell it wasn't BOOOM BOOOM), the bass had IMPACT, the highs weren't harsh or anything and they had plenty of air... the imaging and soundstaging was good, voices sounded natural... Oh My God... That WHOOPS every Promedia I have heard... ------------------ "Feh."
  9. quote: Originally posted by TheEAR: Roj you have to pass your point here,I know ProMedia Admins will like you. LOL As I know your fave PC speaker system is the LoudMedia 5.1,the loudest of em all.Now boost the bass, let the bass flow. Now Roj can you dig that? Gluegun, Great review on the 3DSS board, its the first good review I read in a long time.As most web reviews are plain jokes, most take 5 minutes to write and are clearly biased towards one brand or lack substance.Again great review. I dont agree with all the things said but overall its quite to the point. For instance the internal amp in the Swan M200 is not in any way High-End.I saw the amp myself and its a good amp...for a PC speaker but light years away from serious audiophile amps. And no I am not biased here. As you may or may not have noticed I am going to order the Swan M200 and Swan M1 monitor speakers($999 on the site). The M1's should compare very well to the Contour 1.1,the Contour 1.1 is THE best minotor under $2000,none so far did even match its efortless, natural and lifelike highs and midrange to make the competition week in the knees. When I first did audition the Contour 1.1 I was awestruch by the bass(I am talking sub 40Hz bass!)these tiny marvels generate! So I cant wait to get my M200,they will join my PC speaker army. The M1's,well they may replace the Totel ROKK,Klipsch RSW10 as sub and Celeste 4050i(integrated amp). I will report about the Swans for sure. TheEAR(s) Now theears Theears, do you think you could keep relevant information in their respective threads? Thanks! http://216.37.9.58/ubb/Forum33/HTML/001783.html ------------------ "Feh."
  10. Hey, you all can't take a little joke? I know he can whoop me five times over, lol.... ------------------ "Feh."
  11. Don't worry guys, if you wanna talk to Roj or argue with him, I'll pull him back here, kicking and screaming if I have to... ------------------ "Feh."
  12. Well, I know what I heard with my own ears and the Promedia 4.1 sub is boomy... I am not talking about port noise or 'normal' distortion, by the way... At Best Buy, I tweaked the subwoofer setting to 'accurate', turned off the horrendous bass boost on the portable CD player, made sure there was no port noise, and moved the sub around a bit to get the best sound, and listened closely for quality of sound on the sub... ...and the bass was still boomy. ------------------ "Feh." 13. Justin, Well, regardless, it seems that the Promedia 4.1 is overpriced, especially with the BA7800 whooping up on, well, everything, for $260 after shipping... Add to this the fact that lots of sources say the z560's and the PM 4.1's and the 641's are equally matched (often an A=B and B=C thing ), so I'm thinking that the 4.1's are really kinda not in the running at this point. Hell, if logitech comes out with a 5.1 version of those BA7800's, the Promedia 5.1's might not even be in the running... ------------------ "Feh." 14. I was under the impression, from what I have read, that only the Promedia 5.1 had a 'non-boomy' subwoofer...and that the z560's sub is better than the 4.1 if you manage to turn it down enough. Also, from what I heard with my own ears (granted, at Best Buy.. but STILL..), was that the Promedia 4.1 was boomy.. I dunno... at the $250 point, I'd definitely go with the BA7800's based on what I had read. although, at $140, the Promeia 4.1's, 641's, and z560's seem relatively equally matched. Is it possible to get the Pro 4.1's at that price? By the way, I also read that Logitech HAS been 'streamlining' the z560's (ie, making little fixes without telling anyone...). Aren't the problems you spoke of simply from the original batch?? ------------------ "Feh." This message has been edited by Gluegun on 04-07-2002 at 09:06 PM
  15. So.... here is what I have read about each of these 4.1 systems: Promedia 4.1: A little overpriced, but less so now that there is a price drop. The sub is pretty boomy, but it has more highs due to the fact that it has a tweeter, unlike the z560. Unfortunately, the highs are harsh due to this implimentation of horn loading. Supposedly, this doesn't have good imaging unless you put the speakers at ear level and point them directly at you. Logitech z560: Louder than the Promedia 4.1, very inexpensive, but it doesn't have a tweeter. This isn't that much of a problem, as they get good extension anyway. It has great bass, very loud, but it is difficult to turn down. Supposedly, Logitech has been making revisions (such as letting you turn the bass down to neutral) without telling anyone. The problem is getting the most recent speaker. Altec Lansing 641: Supposedly equal to the z560. I hear that the bass is tighter than the z560, but does not go as low... Compared to the z560, you have greater control over the quantity of bass in this system. I think that these have tweeters, and therefore have good highs. Boston Acoustics BA7800: This system, which you can only get from Gateway, is supposedly teh best of all of these. for $250, it is louder than the z560, has tweeters that actually sound good, and has a punchier sub than the z560 that goes just as low. Supposedly, this will be the best of all of these systems, but you have to go to a Gateway store to find it, or order it online. This also is known to have really great midrange and highs, and good imaging, to boot. Also, unlike Klispch and Logitech, this seems to give continuous RMS specs instead of Burst RMS, which means it stretches the truth in this aspect far less. You can buy it here: http://www.gateway.com/products/gca/snda/ba7800.asp?seg=hm Here is a review: http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/cgi-bin/wwwthreads/showflat.pl?Ca t=&Board=Forum4&Number=52508&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1 Also, the Boston Acoustics system is based off of this, which is just plain badass: http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/product.jsp?productTypeId=161&sortBy=price&productId=2368 Does anyone have any more information on any of these systems?? ------------------ "Feh." 16. X-Gamer is *WAY* better than the SBLive! ------------------ "Feh."
  17. Uh, Tabbycat, I think they don't play at hotels... They are HUGE. They are routinely booked in Chicago, Las Vegas, New York, etc. (they can be in multiple places at one time, no one really knows how many blue men there are). Anyways, BMG is, like, one of THE things to do when you're in Vegas... They have a CD/HDCD and a DVD/DVD-A out that you can buy. And, man, just, like, get the CD...BMG rawks. ------------------ "Feh."
  18. *drools at the thought of a 7.2 system using the 5.1 pros and the 2.1 pros and the GTXP* oh man.... anyways, so PowerDVD is going to get DTS decoding? cool! Will they offer an upgrade to WinDVD that works with that combo? Also, how would stereo music work with that? are any drivers for six channel gaming coming out for the GTXP? What about EAX, would that be workable with that 7.2 system? And where would you plug your headphones into? ------------------ "Feh."
  19. Hmmmm? what do you mean? YOU try talking to NashMan, he DOES talk like that... ------------------ "Feh."
  20. The SBLive Value would work great with the 4.1, but the SBLive cards arent all that great sounding. Ideally, you should get a Game Theatre XP and the 5.1. The SBLive value wont work with the 5.1 ------------------ "Feh."
  21. Also, try the new KSC-55's, for that Streetstyle type headband, but with good sound! They are the same as the KSC-50's in every other way. Also, the KSC-35's look a little more professional (but less cool, and I dont think are constructed as well), and sound, marginally, the best of the series. ------------------ "Feh."
  22. Hello, I have a theoretical question or four... Lets say, that, theoretically, I have a set of Klipsch ProMedia 5.1's, as well as a Hercules Game Theatre XP. Lets also say that I have the demo version of WinDVD 3.0, and that I will buy the full one when it comes out. Lets ALSO say that I have a lot of dolby digital and DTS dvd's, as well as games that use EAX and A3D. So, uh, out of curiosity, how would I, theoretically, connect the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1's to the Game Theatre XP, in order to get Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS, Dolby ProLogic in games (Unreal Tournament) and older DVD's, as well as 4.1 EAX, and 2X Stereo (front and back speakers playing the same thing?) Would I have to, theoretically, go out to Radio Shack and buy some little random piece of connection cable? What would my settings be to do all of these things? ------------------ "Feh."
  23. the SBLive! 5.1 can do it, but the Philips Acoustic Edge and the Hercules Game Theatre XP can do it better. Also, for software dolby digital 5.1 and DTS decoding, it would be VERY wise to get WinDVD 3.0 when it comes out. ------------------ "Feh."
  24. You don't need a hardware decoder with a computer setup and the Klipsch 4.1's or the Klipsch 5.1's. You SHOULD, however, buy WinDVD 3.0 when it comes out, which has AWESOME sound and picture quality, and is the only (legal) software that decodes both DTS and Dolby Digital. and it does DTS cd's, just, ahh, not without crashing. All you need to do is connect it to your favorite 4.1 or 5.1 soundcard with EAX (IE, Game Theatre XP, for example), set it to whatever number of speakers you have, and set WinDVD 3.0 to whatever number of speakers you have (I can give you the demo version to check if it will work), and you're set! ------------------ "Feh."
  25. Well, Boston Acoustics speakers are REALLY good at midrange, and Klipsch speakers are REALLY good at treble and bass (but only quality bass if you position the sub *exactly* right...) Uh, what do you listen to again? ------------------ "Feh."
