  1. *Sigh* This has been asked a gazillion times... The Philips Acoustic Edge also has a center channel... I think the idea here is to use the 2.1's as a center channel, but that idea has a number of flaws in it... Anyways, you don't NEED a center channel unless the speakers are 8+ feet away. But Klipsch surely knows the demand for a 5.1 system...however, there is no word on if they are gonna do anything on it. ------------------ "Feh."
  2. All your base are belong to us!! *Bursts out laughing* God, I love that... ------------------ "Feh."
  3. What are your computer's specs? Are you a gamer? ------------------ "Feh."
  4. it's HERE: http://www.gamersdepot.com/hardware/speakers/klipsch/promedia_41/001.htm Hmmm...Klipsch, where did they go to get a pre-release demo copy? I don't wanna have to steal that set of speakers from...Duane Pemberton! I'd have to travel all the way to Renton, Washington! I'm on the other side of the country! Awww.... (EDIT) MY GOD...are they out, and we weren't the first to KNOW?! http://store.yahoo.com/gethifi/klippromv2.html http://www.excitestores.com/emerald/ipage?SID=30452;type=products;template=prod-page_sc.pgt;numbers=727 *GASP* ------------------ "Feh."
  5. Hey! CatKnight! I like to keep all of my lists separate! I'm putting punk and heavy metal and other vaguely related types of music on ANOTHER list--the one I play Counterstrike to... ------------------ "Feh."
  6. I got all of these files over a period of two days... Anything I'm missing? I'm looking for the top 100 rock songs of all time...I'm pretty sure I have a bunch of 'em...well, 91 of them, anyways... And yea, I'll accept folk stuff too... my definition of Rock is REALLY vague...I just want the good old stuff. You know, the stuff from my parent's era (I'm 17)! Sorry, I don't like Elvis that much...*Runs* Anyways, here's the list... 7. NOOOOOO!!!!!! Don't do it Amy! I BEG YOU!!! ------------------ "Feh."
  8. Philips Acoustic Edge - $70. Pros: Best gaming soundcard ever made. Better than the entire Sound Blater line. Comes with WinDVD. Has QMSS, which ROCKS. Cheap. Cons: headphone quality isn't up to par, a few CD playnack problems, a couple of problems with win2k... Of course, the "best" soundcards are the professional ones, but they aren't good for games...but you can use the, say, Audiophile 2496 WITH an Acoustic Edge...heehee... ------------------ "Feh."
  9. My suggestion is to send the whole thing to Klipsch and have them fix it and stuff... They'll do it at their expense, right? ------------------ "Feh."
  10. Nope, seb, but now you've gone and made me curious! I'll go and try to find out... ------------------ "Feh."
  11. Videologic Digitheatre DTS. 5.1, high quality, warmer than the Pro's I hear. ------------------ "Feh."
  12. You don't need anything else. Although headphones would help.....such as the sennheiser HD495. unfortunately, the pro's headphone jack isnt known for its outstanding quality, and hte AE isnt known for its outstanding headphone quality either... ------------------ "Feh."
  13. Return them and wait for the 4.1's. That's what I'd do. Yea, your set is really defective... ------------------ "Feh."
  14. maybe you should check out this post? http://www.klipsch.com/ubb/Forum10/HTML/002959.html Also, I have neither the Acoustic Edge NOR the ProMedias. I have a Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer and the 2.1 Cambridge Soundworks PCWorks. ------------------ "Feh."
  15. Hey, you all, try bringing your problems to this post: http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/ubb/Forum18/HTML/000007.html This is the board for 3dsoundsurge, and Mark, the admin (you can also contact him at mark@3dsoundsurge.com), seems pretty much deadset on answering all of these questions... Although I am ALMOST COMPLETELY SURE that the bass is ONLY a software problem; reinstall the soundcard...AND MAKE SURE YOU DID WHAT ANDY SAID!! ------------------ "Feh."
  16. Alright, I'm trying to help this guy in Denmark make the right choice about buying computer speakers... So, what are online places that will ship the Philips Acoustic Edge and the v.2-400 ProMedias to Denmark? Guys? ------------------ "Feh."
  17. I'd suggest the Sennheiser HD495. Higher quality than the SR-60's, more comfy, easy to drive, but slightly lower sound quality than the SR-80's. ------------------ "Feh."
  18. Okay, For watching TV on a couch...I can't reccomend the ProMedias. And why would you want to use this setup for LAN games? If you're gonna be spending $4000, you might as well get a dedicated gaming computer (I would like to suggest the Talon from Falcon Northwest www.falcon-nw.com VERY CHEAP, VERY HIGH QUALITY) as well as a dedicated Home Theater PC for this system. Okay, for the home theater PC, GO HERE: http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/Forum12/HTML/006302.html Okay, taking hte computer you discribed, you'll want to un-overclock it, get a fast DVD-ROM drive, get Win98SE, the latest WinDVD or PowerDVD software, a cheap Geforce2 Card (MX would be Ideal), and the Audiophile 2496 sound card. I am assuming you are getting a good Digital Audio Reciever, or you already have one. I don't know about TV's...ask on those forums!! You'll want flat screen and capable of high resolution. Also, I hear it's hell to get HDTV's to work right with PC's--GO TO THOSE FORUMS AND ASK!!! If you want video capture and DirecTV tuning, get that new Hauppauge card coming out. Hard drive speed doesnt matter for the HTPC, but size does. get a big one if you want to capture video. Oh, and for the sound system, I would suggest the Definitive Technology ProCinema 80 set of speakers, connected to a reciever, connected to the Audiophile 2496. THIS is a good post for what to buy for a HTPC: http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/Forum12/HTML/004647.html Okay? This way, if you want to spend $4000, you'll end up with a good gaming rig and a good HTPC rig, instead of one that's mediocre at both. ------------------ "Feh."
  19. No, the analog for quality stuff IS NOT all BS--ProMedias are the king of the Multimedia hill. But we need to know how big the room that you're going to be putting this stuff in is (and how far away the front sattelites are going to be), your budget, and if you are building a dedicated home theater PC or not. We need more information, man! Also, go post at those forums that Distec suggested! ------------------ "Feh."
  20. Distec's right about the forums, except that Cambridge SUCKS. If you WANT multimedia Home Theater, get the Videologic Digitheatre DTS. Although, I warn you, if you go the dedicated "computer as home theater and nothing else" route, you can get more quality for less money. Okay...suggested stuff for that "computer as home theater and nothing else" route: Sound Card: Audiophile 2496 Video Card: Geforce 2, but your voodoo 5 will be okay. DVD: Pioneer's latest and greatest Get an External Reciever, and a NICE set of Home Theater Speakers (I suggest the Definitive Technology ProCinema series if you're cramped for space) However, if you want to go the "computer that can do games as well as home theater stuff" route, I'd suggest the: Sound Card: Philips Acoustic Edge Speakers: Promedia 4.1 Monitor: Sony's 24" monitor Video Card: Geforce 2 DVD Drive: Pioneer's latest and greatest. Also, hardware dvd ain't good. You're fast enough. I think it's better at video but worse at sound, and software offers too many benefits over hardware to choose hardware, especially at your speed. ------------------ "Feh."
  21. Windstorm, ask it there... ------------------ "Feh."
  22. Uh, guys, I'm just REALLY interested in this. I'm not actually an authority. But, however, if you have questions about the AE, go here (if the questions are more about the AE itself): http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/ubb/Forum18/HTML/000007.html Or here (if the questions are more about speakers than the AE): http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001314.html Okay? Hope this helps! ------------------ "Feh."
  23. Really, JS, you should do your research! In fact, in ALL of the reports on Synesthesia I've read (and I've read a lot), these people are COMPLETELY normal--it's just that, for most, music makes colorful designs about 6" in front of their faces. Of course, it doesn't happen for ALL sound, and like most sensory input, it can be ignored. Are you constantly aware of how your toes feel as you go about your day? No? WELL THEN, that's because your brain automatically disregards unimportant sensory input. Synesthesia just mixes some of the input that's already there, so you see black letters as colors, or see music as beautiful pictures, or things like that. In fact, the only real disadvantages of this are maybe being slightly worse at math than some others, and maybe being left handed.
  24. Okay, finally got the answers! Yay! Go HERE: http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/ubb/Forum18/HTML/000007.html ------------------ "Feh."
  25. Well, the appeal of this is that it's cheap (FREE!), whereas acid isn't, it's always on, as long as there's music or letters or colors around you, and has no ill side effects. And, since it isn't a hallucination (you SEE it, not think it; it's not in your minds eye), it sounds really cool... And sounds can have textures and weight and feeling (and no, I'm not talking about bass or inherant sound perception--I'm talking about a mental sensation of touch in your brain!) ------------------ "Feh."
