  1. I just bought "The Incident" and comparing it directly to Steve Wilson's solo "Insurgentes", the overlap is there but not obvious. I was listening to it just in the car though, so not a great place for it. I'll listen to it inside and see what I think.
  2. Thanks for bringing that up, Wrinkles. I should add that math is not my strong suit, reading and writing are.
  3. Hahaha, excellent point, islander. I can float like a bouy!
  4. I knew this was the right place to ask... Reading about it on wikipedia seems so nerdy. I'm not really commited to the idea, just sort of popped up in my brain one day. I'd have to first get in shape, I'm overweight and running isn't my thing, but I'm trying to make positive modifications to change that. I have no knowledge of how the armed forces really work, though. An ensign is a newly commissioned officer, I take it? I definitely know that I would want to be commissioned, not enlisted. Somebody walk me through the process of being commissioned, and what would be required. I know it would be challenging, that's the whole point. Thanks guys
  5. I'm coming up on my last-ish year of college for my bachelor's degree, and have been toying in my mind with the idea of enlisting in the navy in hopes of becoming an officer. Google searches on the topic just bring up general information. Anyone have any information or experience on the subject? I know we have a lot of members in the armed forces.
  6. To the OP, I have exactly the same sub except that mine was built in 1997, and I am already upgrading to a more powerful sub... and my room is only 1,117 cubic feet! It's terrifyingly addiciting!
  7. How about a run-what-ya-brung Klipsch shootout? It wouldn't be the easiest task logistically, but if a dozen would-be Pilgrims showed up with some set-ups, DIY or otherwise, it could be a very good time. The layout could be similar to a high-end audio show, with different systems in different locations, minus the snooty attitude and $5000 interconnects. I wouldn't have anything worthy to bring, but hearing some of the awesome DIY subs and Jube-Corn-Scala what-have-yous we have floating around here would be amazing. Just an idea.
  8. Wuzzzer is totally correct. In time with a calibrated TV you will notice a huge difference in detail and PQ, and going back and watching a non-calibrated display will be an eye-opening experience. (Of course, your eyes will already be open...[*-)])
  9. Well I think it's brilliant. Only true southern-american ingenuity could take the whole process out of buying your steaks, taking them out of the cart, and etc. Just place in cart, cook, and enjoy!
  10. This video was has been on youtube for a couple of years. Does anybody see what I see? According to Leon, J&R's "Audio Expert" The Bose Lifestyle 48 system is "The best purchase you can make. Ever." ....anyone notice what the logo on his shirt says? [bs]
  11. I'm fairly certain that all of the Palladium series products are made in Hope, Arkansas. Can anyone confirm?
  12. "Also, wiring had to be installed to tie the teen’s gaming consoles, laptop computer and cable box to the rear-projection assembly." ....Seriously, what were they thinking?
  13. hey guys, I'm posting this for a friend who just got picked up some new speakers and I'm not exactly sure how to help him: "I have acquired some bang and olufsen beovox s75 speakers, and these are 4 ohm, I was wondering if there were any new receivers on the market that are even rated for 4 ohms and would work, the speakers are 75 watts continuous and 100 peak. The receiver/stereo at my cabin is not fully functioning and the left channel cuts out alot. I'm going to get some deoxit and clean out the inside to try and keep it going. So are there any decent new receivers out there, or I've been told to get an old one from the 70's like a pioneer, marantz or sansui" Suggestions?
  14. +1 Find a decent cd player a few well recorded CDs and a good portion of your problem could be eliminated.
  15. I certainly don't see how that added anything of value to the conversation.
  16. My rx-v1800 will take an HDMI input and output it as component. Go into the menu in yours, youthman and take a looksie... you have to turn video conversion to ON.... I can't remember the menu specifics off hand. They have changed the menus and GUI in the new x65 series of receivers, but I'm sure you still have to turn video conversion to ON. Hope that helps.
  17. They don't... but they do sound nice. Seriously though, it would do some good to take wifey out speaker shopping and count her opinion as completely valid. I would have her take a look at the new icon W series line of floorstanders... the finish on them are very, very living room friendly. OR slip in a pair of Chorus IIs or Cornwalls for a week and then go back to the KG's.... see what she has to say about them then... [6]
  18. Yes, I saw this on advertised AVS forum the other day... I wonder how it would sound hooked up to a pair of cornwalls. Anybody get their hands on one of these?
  19. Alright, guys she's back after the 72-hour cure and thumpin'! The water-thined surround glue treatment made the surround much more firm and non-crumbly, too. Thanks for all your help!!
  20. What shortstack is talking about are some less mainstream subwoofer brands that have a very high value per dollar. Klipsch subs are great, but some people feel that you can get better performance for your bucks from the likes of the brands that he mentioned. Take a look around their sites and then read a few reviews online. I myself am considering the Elemental Designs A2-300. http://www.edesignaudio.com/index.php?cPath=2_41 http://www.svsound.com/index.cfm
  21. Wasn't a question, more of a "Yes, grasshopper, that's right." moment.
  22. Don't be so fast to dismiss the good Doctor's advice, Klipschter... He IS an expert and he knows his subwoofage. It may be hard to imagine anything better than the Fathom right now, but you might never know what you could be missing if you let yourself get caught up in brand names and third-party reviews. You could elevate you listening experience to a whole new level. []
