  1. I recently had a 1083 woofer go out. I took the woofer out, hooked the woofer up directly to my amp and had nothing happen. IS there a short or something I can fix or should I just buy a new woofer? Also, I have the speakers hooked up to a vintage 250w/channel hitachi G class amp. Is this amp too much for the speakers? thanks, Larry
  2. I've been using rf3's 1083 woofers for about 6 months and one of the woofer's isn't working. I took it out and hooked it up directly to the amp and nothing happened. Is there a short somewhere inside the woofer? Can I fix it, or would it be better just to buy a new woofer? thanks Larry
  3. I recently purchased a Hitachi reciever from Ebay. I uses something called a G-class amp that is actually two amps in one- one low current and one high current. It was made in the late seventies. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about these. I am not sure about the actual watage, but the meters go above 200w per channel @ 8ohms. I can believe this because they will bottom out my RF3's easily, which are rated at over 200w RMS. It also sounds far less harsh than my late 90's JVC 5.1 reciever, so I use it for music and the JVC for movies. If anyone could give me some info on the Hitachi, I would greatly appreciate it. thanks Larry
  4. You also might want to try automotive underbody coating (the thick, heavy pro type, not the cheap spray bottle). I have a friend who used to install car audio who liked this better than dynamat for reducing resonance in car doors. I guess it would adhere better to the contours of the horn. I haven't tried it, but its an idea
  5. Anything by any boy bands, TLC, Poison, Winger, Great White, and any other 80's hair bands Larry
  6. Perhaps someone could give me a better solution to my dilemma. I have a theater screen that goes from about three feet off the ground to approximately 8.5 feet high. this leaves the middle of the screen @ about six feet off the ground. the height of my current speakers (on stands) leaves the sound coming out of the bottom of the picture, giving inaccurate imaging. How can I build or place the speakers I am building to compensate best for this problem without destroying tonal quality? The room I am using them in is about 12 by 20 ft.
  7. I am building three custom front channel speakers using dual klipsch 1083 woofers (from rf3's)in each and 8ohm horns in remote locations. I am doing this to try to get ideal horn and woofer placement (horns in the middle of my theater screen and approximately 7 ft of the ground on either side of the screen and woofers close enough to the ground to get good bass resonance). However, I need to know some specs on the rf3. What is the internal airspace of the rf3? How many ohms are the woofers? How are the crossovers set up? Is there a better way to crossover the speakers to make them sound more balanced? What possible problems can I expect? Possible flaws in my reasoning about remote horns? Any help I get will be greatly appreciated thanks Larry
