I voted 12, but I'm with Amy. It depends on the child and the environment. I've let my youngest stay home for a few hours when he was 10, but he was the most responsible kid and we lived on the family farm so I knew he would be able to get a hold of one of my in-laws really quick.
Thanks! We are very proud of him and his girlfriend. She also got accepted to UAMS, and yes, they will be having to live pretty cheaply as they won't have time to have a part-time job at this level. The whole family has promised that someone will be up at least once a month to take them out to eat.

It isn't very expensive as well which should be a good thing for Med Students. If he buys a slab it should last a couple meals
