Your dvd-rom has a 2-wire digital-out that is compatable with soundcards with digital I/O's.(Hoontech's are onboard, most Live Cards require a daughter board or I/O expansion, etc.. A DVD has a stereo/prologic, a dts, and a lower quality ac3.(a larger bandwidth combined to mono, above 10khz to save bitstream) Or the stereo/prologic and the higher quality ac3.(frequencies above 14khz combined to mono) Are you decoding dts or does it fall back to ac3 as designed if problems with dts decoding.(settings,signal, source,ect...}

Maybe Win-DVD is set to only decode DTS movies on DVD and not music CD's? Win-DVD is already paying Dolby for Dolby ProLogic, Dolby headphone surround, AC3, and DTS. It would not be surprise that Dolby wants a separate license for DTS cd. And if Mpeg2-AAC is used, Dolby sells that one too.

My Aureal SQ2500, that has the AU8830 chip, (sound familar?) sends me to the software icon in the launch bar to open the sound control panel. Under EQ select cd from the drop-down. I hope this helps with yours.

How about a different view? 4ch soundcards for 4ch speakers. The owner of the ADS2000 ac3 decoder swears by the 4ch mix down,(maybe he didn't swear) the remote control, all the in/outs, and the quality of the D/A converters. Better than that is the Panasonic decoder that also does DTS decoding. fawwaz, Get the adapter as paragon linked to, to run tv into soundcard's line-in. Get a tv that has a RCA-in and RCA-out and a switch cut out the built-in speakers of the tv. Then run RCA cables from the vcr to the tv, and another pair from the tv to the vcr. Then you can listen to what you are watching on tv and record at the same time. If you run cables from the vcr to the pros you'll have to listen to what you record. Or turn the tv speakers back on. If you don't have enough line-in jacks on back of your soundcard you can remove the i/8" jack and solder on a plug for the aux on the soundcard's header.(then it will have its' own volume control in the mixer) The soundcard will give sound, front and rear. And no "Y" splitters.

Let's see, 800x600 rez with .83 dot pitch? A good 35" will give you 600 or 700 lines of rez. About $500 last I looked.

I got a question for anyone, what happens to the amp if the wires slip out of the screw-clamp? I would consider my sats to be a high vibration environment. Would Klipsch be able to tell if the amp is blown because of shorted speaker wires? Do the Klipsch have a safety circuit that protects the amp from damage due to shorting? Will Klipsch honor warranty on sets with blown amps? I think I know the answers, but maybe someone should explain and encourage response to Amy's offer to get factory cables made. I have a solder-iron an' solder-braid and I'll take in old blown V2s'. If you know what I mean?

Tell granpa that small speakers like the Klipsch, are great if you want to squeeze up next to a computer, BUT Then show them a nice Yamaha receiver with a remote control, good s-vid, DolbyDigital, DTS, all the equipment connected. Maybe grandpa would appreciate that 3 pairs of the high output AR will give him a spare if some grandkids bust one or something. Maybe how delicate the bose look compared to 5 AR's and the Yamaha. Then you can talk them into the best, biggest Klipsch sub-woofer you can find. If you're lucky you can talk them out of the over-powered sub in 6 months. Some of the creative live cards make you buy the daughter cards for s/pdif out. Do you use the S/pdif for DD and DTS pass-thru to your receiver?

Your V2s' shipped with the original high gain pre-amp. Some of the units with the h-g amp had probs. with crackles and hiss, and were replaced with the low-gain amp. The cp1 is the same as the same as that shipped with the 4.1s' with a new led that indicates if in standby, a 1/8" minijack for headphones or aux input from a walkman, and a switch to mute the speakers when using the headphones. Are you having any static or hiss problems.

Gluegun, I was using the Cdex with the Lame encoder to rip to 320 just for archive purposes. I knew that people are not suppose to hear differences in that quality, but I wanted the "Head Room". Then I read the docs and found that the lame encoder can encode "normalized" in joint stereo format to preserve ProLogic info. Then I found out I could have "lossless" Monkey's Audio(.ape) files at just a percentage increase in HD space compared to the best MP3 encoding with joint stereo settings. The more I found out about Monkey's Audio the better it sounds.(intended) It normalizes on playback (kinder than lames'); Uses CRC checksums for integ of data; that you can cut and paste and copy and edit and mix all to your hearts content without degrading your quality; .ape files decode 10 times faster than MP3's with less cpu; But;;; ..Since you do like MP3's, may I suggest you use EAC to make the best .wav file you can before encoding? EAC will let you go into any possible defect (pop, click, jitter artifact, etc....) let you review (play and listen to) then correct or write time codes to a file for review. Then when you record your MP3's you don't encode those nasty scratches n'crap since it's so cool to have a 10 hour mix on one cd. I agree. and Ray, I do have a few ?? new post??

bajachepe, When you are using the altec sub on the lives' sub out, do you still have full range bass going to the 4.1s' inputs. Does the live redirect bass to the sub out? If you set the soundcard to mix bass into the 4 channels, as the Klipsch would need if you didn't have the altecs, does the live card still output to the sub out? Post 203, . MMmmmm,203, . Le'see, I can make perfect, yes, perfect copies of cd's for 25 cents each, or I can do less. It's reassuring to see EAC say no errors, and let monkey make 8 gig into 4.6 gig. I know, it is cheaper to burn a cd, but files on a hard drive are durable.
