  1. Thanks for the feedback everyone. Toddvj do you know what the model number is on that TV you suggested? Thanks.
  2. Thanks for the feedback Doug... Do you think the analog audio out of the 2200 would be better than the 3802 with a digital input?
  3. Thanks for the feedback. I was wondering though if people had any comments on the upgade to the DVD-2200 and the whole sound differences if any with using the digital coax cables? Thanks again.
  4. I have been looking at upgrading my DVD player for the past two years and I was wondering if people thought it was smarter to hold off another year or two and try to wait for the new high definition DVD replacement standard before buying. I currently have a 3 year old Sony DVP-S570D and I was looking at the Denon DVD-2200. I've never had the chance to audition mid level DVD players next to the average joe DVD player. I'm assuming the sound would be obviously different if I were using analog interconnects due to the improved DACs but will the sound be noticebly different when using digital coax since the processing is done in the reciever (correct???). The rest of my system that would be effected is ... Reciever: Denon AVR-3802 Speakers: RF-3(front mains), RC-3II(center), RB-3(surrounds), SVS 16-46CS(sub) TV: Sony 20" Wega (KV-20FV12) Cables: DIY Cat5 Chris VenHaus(Speaker Cables), Acoustic Research(Interconnects) Basically I'm wondering if I could spend the $500 on a better upgrade??? Thanks for your help.
  5. I was using monster cable for a while because of the cost and then I stumbled across the Chris Venhaus DIY Cat5 cables and after many hours and sore fingers I really do think they made a significant difference. The lower frequency seemed to get a lot clearer and everything seemed more open. To some wire is wire and the costs aren't worth it; however different wire configurations and quality of metal can and do make a difference. There is physics to back up this argument. This is very obvious in network cables. If you try running gigabit ethernet over cheap cat5 cables you will notice a decrease in speed when compared to cat5e or cat6. There have been a bunch of previous posts on this topic in the past so if you don't get many responses do a search. I know a year or two ago there was a lot of discussion on wires on this forum.
  6. just out of curiosity does anyone know how the samson s700 amps (the ones the svs sells with their subs) sound like with the reference series compared to other similarly priced amps?
  7. i'm not saying i wouldn't like stronger/better cabinets but everything is a tradeoff and it could be that klipsch decided to go with better drivers, tweeters, and crossovers and to cut some corners on the cabinets. just my 2 cents
  8. Hey everyone, I know there has been a lot of discussion on dvd players on this board but none of it covers the less expensive models. See, my parents are planning on getting an inexpensive set up and I'm trying to figure out the best dvd player for less than 300. Their tv is a Sony Vega 36 XBR (supports progressive scan), with a JVC 9010 receiver, and Klipsch Quintets. Trying to figure out if say the Denon 800 w/out prog scan would be better than a cheap sony (or whatever) w/ prog scan. Suggestions???
  9. can someone post the link where everyone is buying these subs... please!!!
  10. I ended up making the chris venhaus diy speaker cables ( http://www.geocities.com/venhaus1/diycatfivecables.html ) and then put my own insulation and protection layer around them and finished it off with some WBT banana and spade connectors (overkill but it was fun). I found that made a significant difference. Whether or not it was worth the hours of labor is debatable but it did the following things... Sound is more open Bass is clearer (the cheap monster cable i used before made things punchy) More transparent Just my two cents.
  11. I have a question now regarding what you guys are saying... I currently have rf3's for mains and am planning on getting surrounds in the near future do you recommend rs-3's or rb-3's.
  12. If you are thinking of buying online (not trying to revive the debate) try http://shopping.yahoo.com and just search for the item you want and then there is an option to arrange in lowest to highest price. There are normally good deals there and I haven't had any problems Good luck
  13. Well I played around using some of your suggestions and I'm pretty sure you guys were right about the out of phase part.... sounds much better now (i thought i had checked that but i guess not). As far as the DVD player goes it is the Sony DVP-S570D (wanting to replace it with a denon when i get the money). It is connected using a digital coax cable and the player has the following settings for output Digital Out: ON Dolby Digital: Dolby Digital (D-PCM is the other option) DTS: DTS (D-PCM is the other option) 48khz/96khz PCM: 96khz/24bit (48khz/16bit is the other option) Thanks for all your help
  14. the denon is set with the following... Front small Sub on Crossover 80hz Mode Direct DVD Front Lch Vol -2db Front Rch Vol -2db SW Vol +6db (PS this is a dorm room) This message has been edited by beday00 on 01-22-2002 at 10:07 PM
  15. I just received my svs16-46 and samson s700 and am not getting as much bass as everyone seems to be describing on this board and was looking for some help to make sure i have everything set up properly. I'm running everything through a Denon 3802 and was wondering how other people with a similar setup have things configured. I have digital coax going from the dvd player to the 3802. then i have the provided better cable going from the 3802 sw preout to the s700 input1. finally i have some cheap monster cable(soon to be replaced) going from ouput1 to the sub. The s700 is in stereo mode. (My mains are the RF-3's, so should the svs completely blow away the mains when turned up?)
