  1. I was fortunate enough to meet the man few years back. I asked him what the optimum room size would be for my speaker setup...He reached in his pocket, pulled out a pen and began manually calculating numbers. Mind you, this was a man in his 90's. He was utterly fascinating in the brief time I talked with him, then, I couldn't imagine the intellect while in his prime. He was kind enough to sign all of my speaker grills that day, I will cherish them forever. ------------------ Sony555ES KLF30 mains C7 center KSF-S5 rears Def Tech PF15TL+ Sub Mitsu DVD Yamaha CD Mitsu VHS
  2. Did you decide yet?? I don't know about the Cornwalls, but my KLF30's overpower my KSFS5's when I calibrate the system per Avia/VE. A little fudging of the levels is needed to balance the sound correctly. If I had something a little bigger for the rears, I might be even more happy. They sound nice, just not quite enough ummph for my 30's. ------------------ Sony555ES KLF30 mains C7 center KSF-S5 rears Def Tech PF15TL+ Sub Mitsu DVD Yamaha CD Mitsu VHS
  3. I got a pair, but not sure I want to part with them...They're ~ 4 years old, perfect condition, sound great. I think I paid $400 for the pair. Offer? ------------------ Sony555ES KLF30 mains C7 center KSF-S5 rears Def Tech PF15TL+ Sub Mitsu DVD Yamaha CD Mitsu VHS
  4. I've had the 555ES for 2 years. No Hiss, No Problems. Love it. ------------------ Sony555ES KLF30 mains C7 center KSF-S5 rears Def Tech PF15TL+ Sub Mitsu DVD Yamaha CD Mitsu VHS
  5. Yes you guys are right, they are the EQ controls. For some reason I htought they were controlling the crossover settings. SO, should I leave the EQ off when listening to DD or DTS? ------------------ Sony555ES KLF30 mains C7 center KSF-S5 rears Def Tech PF15TL+ Sub Mitsu DVD Yamaha CD Mitsu VHS
  6. After reading the Large vs. Small thread, I got to playing with my system again. On my Sony, it will let me control the frequencies of the bass, mid and treb for the front, center and rear. Can someone give me some insight as to where I should be setting these? My thinking is; with the mains/center/rear set to small, for the mains I should max the bass/mid/treb frequencies. Cut the bass in the center while picking up as much mid and treble as I can. Rears, max bass/mid and treb. Here's the frequency control I have and where I currently have it set. FRONT- Bass 100Hz-1KHz set at 100 Hz Mid 500Hz-5Khz set at 500 Hz Treb 1KHz-10KHz set at 1K Hz Center- Bass 100Hz-1KHz set at 1K Hz Mid 500Hz-5KHz set at 500Hz Treb 1KHz-10Khz set at 10 KHz Rear- Bass 100-1KHz set at 100Hz Mid 500-5Khz set at 500Hz Treb 1K-10KHz set at 1KHz I played SPR and Don Henley this morning at these setting and it sounded purty good. Am I thinking right on this? Thanks for any inputs. ------------------ Sony555ES KLF30 mains C7 center KSF-S5 rears Def Tech PF15TL+ Sub Mitsu DVD Yamaha CD Mitsu VHS
  7. Being an Albuquerquean, I'm surprised Sound Ideas had no "Idea". That's my store too. If I see them somewhere in town, I'll post.
  8. Well, you'll really love the sound of your 30's and C7 once you add a sub. I really wanted an SVS, but was unwilling to wait 3 months for a sub. I'm a spontaneous shopper! I went with a DefTech PF15TL+, best sub I auditioned for under $1200, I paid $625. It mixes well with my 30's,C7,S5's though I do have a slight itch for more bass after reading the overwhelming posts from the SVS crowd. For now I'm happy, love my 30's and the rest.
  9. I have a friend with the Bose satellite system and a KSW-12 sub. It sounds ok with his system, not overbearing. I have a Def Tech PF15TL+ I use with my KLF30's,C7,S6's and am thoroughly satisfied.
  10. I have the DA555ES aslo w/KLF30 mains, C7 center, KSFS5 rears and a deftech 15" sub. I upgraded to the Sony from a Yamaha. When I first turned on the Sony, I remember thinking that I liked the 2 channel sound better with the Yamaha. Now that I've had it for awhile, I guess I'm used to the Sony! For home theater, I like the Sony's sound fields better. The virtual 3D surround modes are awesome. EQ and speaker control lets you tailor the sound to your ears and to your room. If you can find a DA555ES, you can probably pick it up for around $550-600. 120w per with all the bells. Big bang for the buck, plus a 5 year warranty. Buy it.
  11. System is; Sony DA555ES reciever Mitsu DVD KLF30 mains C-7 center KSF-S5 rears PF15TL+ sub I just bought the Video Essentials and a sound meter. I'm trying to calibrate my speakers but cannot get the rears to 75dB! The center channel is set +6 dB to achieve 75dB, but the rears, even at +10dB can only achieve 70dB on the meter. Am I doing this right? I'm using the master volume control to set the mains reference level, then using the internal gain to adjust the other speakers to it. If there were some way to "turn down" the mains, I think I could balance everything. Am I missing something here?
  12. I just bought a Definitive Technology PF15TL+. Don't overlook this sub. It sounded as good as some $900-$1000 subs for $600. Easily mated with my KLF30 mains,C7 center,KSF-S5 rears.
