  1. I installed them in both my Forte II's and Quartet center channel, they are smooth and just plain great.
  2. I have never understood why Klipsch discontinued the Forte II and Quartet, both of these speaker have all the power, emotion and clarity Klipsch are famous for. I had Heresy II's and got the Forte II's in trade, the F II's needed some cabinet refinishing, when that was done, I ended up with a really room filling experience. The large midrange horn and powerfull bass line are truly incredible. I was my impression was that the Quartet and Forte II were at price points below the Cornwall, and both spec out as well or better than the Cornwall. The Heresy series are the most amazing little speakers on the face of the planet, but the size of the Heresy series limits their bass ability. A wise man once said, "with the Heresy you want a subwoofer, with the Forte II, you want to turn the bass down..." I had converted my '85 HII's into HIII's via the conversion kit, the difference was remarkable. The tweeter, sqwaker and woofer were all signifiganty improved, and the Heresy has always been a pretty speaker when well taken care of. The Forte II's I got were black ash, not the prettiest finish, but a little sanding, some wipe-on poly and vacumming the grilles made things a bit better. The Forte II's have some serious power, far exceeding much of the Reference line as does the Quartet series. So the queston is why discontinue something really good in place of something ok. Granted PWK never annointed either series, Forte or Quartet, but surely he wouldn't have annointed a good part of the Refernce of Synergy line. My proposal, bring back the Forte II and Quartet II, have a Klipsch family member bless them as Heritage and sell them as Heritage. Surely they have the performance and sonic quality worthy of the Heritage line.
  3. After listening to the new Icon series at BestBuy yesterday, I really must register my dissapointment with them. Sure they have high output, although not relative to my Heritage series stuff. I bought a sub-10 to go along with the HIII's in my little room, the sub-10 carries everything below 58 HZ and it really adds more of a spatial quality and a little more physical sensation. Yesterday I heard the Icon series, the WF-35's and they had a rather harsh sound, one I don't get from my heritage series stuff. I was totally not happy. I am thinking of getting a third HIII for center channel, but I do have space constraints in my HT room. currently two HIII's and the sub-10 give me more than I have heard in many a show room.
  4. Dell has a blu-ray rewriter, not listed on the web page for 199.99, couple this with a good sound card (Soundblaster X-Fi at the low end) and a digital IO module ($20.00 from vreative) and you have a complete digital media system. Along with my Yamaha RX-V361 receiver this whole thing totally kicks and the beauty is that for a few dollars more I have a Linux machine (Ubuntu 7.1) running SAMBA that stores 1.25 TB of digital entertainment.
  5. I find the K-28 to be a bit cleaner than the K-24. I bought the upgrade kit, HII->HIII and the improvement is really noticable, it was worth $27 a side, the cabs are great and in spite of the gf's protests, they will get another 20+ years.... The whole package including the K-57, K-103 and the new crossover really gave them a new life, although as HII's they shared no peer to any speaker of their size and price. The new titanium drivers really do wonders as doesthe increaed magnet size of the tweeters.
  6. I like option 4, everything matches sonically, in every detail. Option 2 is also pretty cool, but I was never a big Cornwall fan. I just inherited a pair of 1962 Khorns and a 1962 Heresy center, not the great match it was designed to be, the other problem is that the corners are 30' apart. How about 2 KHorns and a La Scala II center. "In for a penny, in for a pound"
  7. Personally, and this is my opinion and invalid for all but me, but I think the best music to test speakers is the stuff you listen to all the time. In my case, I use the Dropkick Murphy's "Shipping off to Boston" or AC/DC, hells bells or something of that nature, and then I listen to the sound coming from one of the first three Star Wars movies. The sound of the craft alone is beautiful, for me the ability to hear the shape of something is what separates Klipsch stuff apart from the rest.
  8. [] With the new titanium drivers in the HIII's I have no need for super tweeters, I get a real well balanced, abundance of high frequency information. Recently I inherited a pair of 1962 kHorns, they too have a sparkling high end. Geez, I like these speakers... []
  9. It usualy takes MSFT about 10 years to get an OS right, When XP is no longer supported I will go to Ubuntu 7.01 (gutsy Gibbon) or the 8.1 beta version. I have gone over the code bloat problems time and time again, now I am just looking for an excuse to dump MSFT altogether. I even have things set up under WINE to run the games I like. Eventually I will go to a game console and use my machine for it's real purpose, streaming audio and video. Linux is way better at memory management and rendering than the MSFT products. Alsa does a great job with my X-Fi Extreme Audio, connected to a digital IO module, which in turn drives my receiver via SPDIF.
  10. I'm more of a "True Romance", "Pulp Fiction kind of guy. ALthough I do the new Star Wars trilogy on occasion and I do game. I bought an LG Blu-Ray burner through newegg.com and my slysoft software has no problem handling it. My TV isn't HD, I'm holding out for another year. I may buy another LG Blu-ray burner for the Linux machine, but the drivers may be lacking for it. I guess I hanging on for Windoze 7.
  11. The PS3 ia a great idea, good graphics processor and priced relative to my Blu-Ray drive which is Writeable, so I can make archive copies of my new BD's or just rip the movie part into an avi, and put several avi files on a BD disk. Sure I'd love a PS3, but I am starting to develop an addiciton to PC based games, I don't need another gaming console.
  12. We all have our expectations and requirements...for me the answer will be Ubuntu...for others it's Vista or OS X..,It's a definite whatever...
  13. Vista is suffering the same problem as all MSFT products, code bloat. I went back to XP Pro on this machine, when support expires for XP, this machine will become a Ubuntu machine. XP took a long time to get right, Vista, just more code piled on code. The sick thing is that this is all still based on a design from Carnegie Mellon from a long time ago. At this point, my Ubuntu machine, an AMD 64 machine with an MSI motherboard is my star, my XP machine still exists because it supports my Nvidia 8500 GT, which Ubuntu is supposed to support now... Linux is going through thousands of Kernel changes, now the two largest contributors are paid employees of Red Hat. Ubuntu is a really smooth distribution, the French and German governments have both started the transition, the French using Mandrake of course. Linux improves, code bloat is non existent as everybody wants to make the faster, smoother alogorythm.
  14. Amy, this was a brilliant and devious idea. Now, every time I log on the site, I think to myself, one pair of HIII's or should I go for a second , so the first pair won't get lonely, or should I really jam myself up with the credit card payments and just go to the La Scala II's......It is a day by day struggle. BTW, I'm using IE8, all seems to be working well, but you are using a windoze web server. One day soon, in a moment of weakness......too tempting.
  15. All is solved, my GF got the entire RF/RC-52 series for the living room, I converted my HII's to HIII's via kits conveniently available from Klipsch, now the challenge is what to do with the spare HII guts (Woofers, midrange horns, tweeter horns and crossovers), my partner has ideas based on the lilscala, me, a big center channel. EIther way, I am good to go. That new Klipsch store is mighty tempting, another set of HIII's....hmm....[]
  16. Rebuilding the Heresy II as a center channel w/2 8" woofers and maybe a well calculated duct port is brilliant. I tried laying an HII sideways on top of my tv, the HI is unshielded and vibtates the hell out of the tv. Shielding the drivers and increasing the length of the cab wi/some other mods will make it a great center channel.
  17. I purchased the kits about 2 months ago, most of the wiring related posts are related to the fact that my 87 HII cabs have the square input cup near the bottom. This had been modified in later model HII's. The only important question is : Q: Was it worth it ? A: Absolutely, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. For $277 a side you're getting a whole new speaker, totally worth it. If I can get another 20 or so years out of these, I will be one happy man, now the new items on the Klipsch store...very tempting. My GF is happy with her RF/RC 52 system. only
  18. Maybe I'll turn the HII guts into a really fierce center channel. After looking at the alternatives, I can't escape the fact that 60% of a movie comes through the center channel. Once I speak with my cab maker, maybe he will convince me otherwise. The show we are going to is ours. All I need to do is get the software ready instead of procrastinating on a blog. This is really his show, I am just the sideline act for the rich and lazy. Darn, I love using Linux, unlimited capability at a minimal cost. The cgi is truly fun, all Perl.
  19. I purchased an blu-ray burner from newegg.com. works great under ubuntu, I'm going to order another one for my one Vista box which has AnyDVD, CloneDVD amd ImTOO Platinum on it. Now I just have to replace the Sony Wege I've been using for years, but I have this thing for classics that work well.

If an old swaby like me can learn, anyone can
  21. I just got am LG Blu-Ray burner, fits in a pc, no fuss, no muss, one day I'll buy an HDTV, but the old Sony Wega will do for now

Personally, I am getting fond of Ubuntu 7.1, and I have a blu-ray burner on order from newegg. Yea, the open source world is wonderful. My X-Fi Extreme Audio card works well, my Hauppauge TV card and PNY graphics card all do the deed. In the living room I am using a client with not a lot of memory, and it does really well. VLC and VLS have really served me well for my audio/video needs.
  23. James, mom thinks the RF/C-52 stuff is "attractive", her way of saying "not much". The HIII's are awesome and my lilscala project is on hold for a bit, as I have software issues to work out. The real bottom line is that the GF loves the RF/C-52 stuff, she has both her tv and music sounding better than anything she is used to. Personally, I think the stuff is good, it just sounds different from horn loaded stuff. Horns just have more appealing characteristics to me and to mom, I guess it is what we are used to. My GF is totally happy with the RF/C-52 system and that my friend is the bottom line. She owns the living room, it is hers to command and she is happy with her toys. She can have her girlfriends over and they can listen to speed metal until their collective ears bleed. The walls of the place are thick enough so I can't hear it, and I rarely play stuff loud, maybe the occasional movie. As soon as I get some software issues worked out, back to project lilscala, or maybe I'll just buy a pair and create a HII center channel. I know there are sheilding issues. Two pair of HII guts in a box shielded and over the tv...hmmm.....

    RF63 vs RF82

Personally, I'd go with the Heresy III, totally worth it.
  25. Beautiful work...I still have to figure out what to do with two pair of Heresy II guts...
