  1. Mdeneen.....I really didn't want to get involved in this but some of your principles and reasoning are just plain baffling to me. First of all there is no direct correlation between budgetary cuts and NASA's two shuttle failures. If you knew anything about the Challenger failure, and I'm sure you do, you know money was NOT an issue. Your comment on "Afghanistan was not a very successful venture," Are you serious? I would bet the thousands of Afghan women and child marching around the country would beg to differ with you. Bush ignoring the dissent of his own people! Now your taking that way out of context. He was asked a question on whether these demonstrations would alter his drive and/or change his ideas and resolve and he replied he would not let them interfere with his case. To turn that around and say he ignores the dissent of his own people is ridiculous and you know it. Everyone needs to realize, and sometimes its difficult to put in perspective, but the actual numbers protesting out there are extremely minimal. The people who support either the Bush foreign policy or the case to go to war with Iraq are not out on the streets protesting, only the people who, well to be honest only the people who dislike Bush and his policies. The funny thing is if you go out and ask these protesters what they would do different or alternatives to solve this problem, they don't have a damn clue. Most of these YOUNG people are uninformed followers that have no idea most of these demonstrations are being organized by anti-american lunatics. So if you want to stroll on down the road holding hands with Sheen and Robbins thats fine, but I for one think your way off here. I bet you were up in arms when Clinton tossed a few cruise missles into a pharmacuetical facility in Sudan or bombed most of Bosnia into the stone ages. I don't consider giving money aid and grants to Turkey, whose economy was detrimentally crushed during the gulf war, a WASTE of money. What I consider a waste of money is giving North Korea six BILLION dollars, nuclear making material and technology while there government starved two and a half million of there own citizens. But hey, at least Carter go his little medal. And lastly, bringing Reagan into this is a joke. The situation was completely different and sometimes who have to choose the lesser of two evils. I think looking back we can all conclude the President Reagans foreign policy was a major success.
  2. Been waiting for my tax return to arrive and had every intention of purchasing the Aram 72T I demoed awhile back. I have recently been reading great things on this new Jolida JD-100. It runs around 900 and uses 2 12AX7LPS tubes. I'm running a solid state amp and preamp so I'm wondering if this player might not be a bad choice to lessen some of that harshness at loud volumes. Apparently it's very detailed and does not produce too much liquid midrange to muddy the sound. Has anybody heard this unit? Of course I could always change-upgrade the tubes also, of course with all your help, as I don't know the first thing about tubes. Thanks for any insight!
  3. Piles of dirt?????? Come on now it's SAND! Have you ever been up around Valentine along the Niobrara? I think that area is beautiful
  4. Love the lighter oak, looks great. I just put the original cane grills on my Epics and it is stiffer and harder to work with. There is a small amount of red in one of the threads but I love the looks of it.
  5. Head out to north central and western Nebraska! People flock there in the summers to experience the thrill of what an actual dark sky can offer.
  6. Allon, keep your financial attributes to yourself, all you did was depress me.....lol
  7. I've owned the MMF-5 for 2 years or so and I think your going to love it. It has a well balanced, smooth, yet detailed sound and is a nice change for the ears after listening to cds for awhile.
  8. William.......which models are you looking at? Been thinking of going that route to. Been looking at there two-channel ss amps with meters in the 100 watt/channel range. I do know from checking out the prices on some of the late 70's and early 80's amps and wow do they hold there prices nice. The stuff just doesn't go down in prices.
  9. "That's what I like about those highschool girls, I get older, they stay the same age, yes they do". Matthew McConaughy--dazed and confused
  10. One down....one to go. Went to the store this afternoon and picked up a cheap glue gun. That cane material is kind of stiff so It was a pain in the butt. The grill looks great, now I just have to soak a couple finger tips in cold water for the next hour, dang that glue gets HOT! Also I sure wish they wouldn't have tapered the grills in toward the bottoms, a nice neat rectangle would have been easier, ha,ha.
  11. I'm changing out my original speaker cloth on my CF-2's and putting the cane grill material on that I bought from Klipsch last year. I have all the old cloth off and there is quite a bit of residue left on the plastic grill frame. I have a couple questions. What type of glue would best work with the cane type material on plastic? Do I really need to get all that other crap off the plastic? And lastly, would it be possible to somehow staple the cane cloth on with minimal staples using sometime of strips? Thanks for any advice.............................................
  12. Danbry....good choice. I auditioned the 72t last year and will be picking one up next month with tax money. Had it in my system for two weeks and as every day passed I liked the player more and more. Incredible detail and note decay, looks are nice too.
  13. Simply stated.........it's much easier to make a good two-way speaker than it is to make a 3-way speaker. I've had a friends Heresys in my system on two different occasions and my 2-way Epics just sounded much better to me in all areas. Much smoother, better detailed lower frequencies, better imaging, you name it. Now I realize my results are based on my Solid State system and my personal tastes so I'm not bashing 3-ways just pointed out that a good two-way speaker has numerous benefits. With my system the Heresys equaled 3 excedrin and a hot towel on my forehead.
  14. Like we really landed on the MOON!
  15. Mike........have you had any experience with any Lightspeed conditioners? All I'm going to use if for is three components and an amp. I'll probably experiment a little with just plugging the source components in to the conditioner and going to the wall with my solid state amp. Thanks
  16. Well, after a day of listening to only C.D.s it's obvious that the Adcom conditioner did decrease haze-hiss and create a blacker background. This was something I could immediately notice. As for the overall music or dynamics I could not tell a difference. So I will probably go with a Chang conditioner as I would gladly give up just a tad of dynamics for a blacker background with less hiss/haze. Plus cosmetically it looks a lot nicer with our your lines running to a seperate place with protection an added bonus. Thanks.......
  17. I just recently sold my Adcom ac enhancer that has been in my system since 95. The only reason I sold it is because as I upgrade a few of my components the older Adcom didn't have enough 3-prong outlets. After reading a lot of information from all fronts I'm confused as heck. Plug my equipment right into the wall, use a power conditioner, just get a power-surge strip? Obviously I want what sounds the best and I will be doing some tests here shortly with my sytem with everything pluged directly into the wall. I have heard where people have taken out a ac enhancer-conditioner and couldn't believe how much better it sounded with out it in there so who knows. I'm currently looking at the Chang Lightspeed 3200. I've checked out quite a few of the two-channel forum members systems but most don't mention the use of a conditioner. I would like to know what some of your thoughts our on this dilemna. Thanks..........................
  18. Anybody....Starting Saturday when I turn my computer on it doesn't load the main screen. All I get is the little windows music and then a blank screen, no icons at all. The only way that I can get on the net is to control/alt/del and bring up task manager and load yahoo. I can't do anything else because there's nothing to click on. I have no clock on the bottom bar either. I'm sure I have a virus but now what do I do. Thanks...................
  19. Justin, congrats...........by the way a lot of great things came out of the eighties but I won't bore you with my long list. Saved by the bell was almost entirely shot in the early nineties, and don't ask me why I know that, O.K. Kelly was and still is HOT!
  20. This is my theory, just a theory nothing more. I would say that when they test my entire shift, which includes around 30 people, all males, 75% of there right ears test better than there left ear. Most are between the age 21 and 40. So here it is. Car stereos! Most people, me included certainly, listen at volumes too loud and were talking car stereo here so the sound quality isn't the cleanest. With the left front speaker being rather close and sometimes even directly pointed at the left ear, it makes sense to me that this might be causing this problem. Also this test includes tests of I think around 16 different frequency marks and the failures on the left ears were almost entirely in the upper frequency range where your little 3 1/2-4 inch speakers are blaring that crisp treble at you. Heck, you knows, but thats my theory!
  21. Also remember, and no I'm not kidding here, that each ear is different. My job requires annual hearing tests and my right ear always tests a lot better than my left. Sounds stupid, but that could be what's altering your perceived balance problems.
  22. Anybody have any first hand knowledge of there protectors/conditioners? No MOV's and are fairly priced, just looking for something to replace my Adcom because it doesn't have enough grounded outlets. Thanks
