  1. Before I bought the rf-7's,rc-7 and the rf-5's, I had a full 6.1 system of kg5.5's that I had bought throughout the years. I actually did just that....I took one of the speakers and made a center out of it by cutting out the front....re-arranging the face, glueing the MDF back on and painting it black. Looks sweet....as a matter of fact I'm using it as my 6th channel right now. I never noticed any sound difference between the LCR, plus at the time back in the early 90's there wasn't anything for centers out there to even buy.... let alone match. The front of an RF-7 is designed diff than a kg5.5 and there is bracing inside. If I do that again I have to be very carefull not to screw it up....besides the fact that the rc-7 doesn't suck.... its just not a rf-7, so if I'm not completely satisfied I can sell it as a rf-7 and not a rf-7 center hi-bred. I'll take some pics of the KG center and you guys can tell me what you think. rich
  2. Remember I am going to use this thing as a center channel so it needs to be on its side, because a floor speaker laying on its side would be un-balanced. I have 2 choices re-arrange the face to a normal center channel, or remove the horn lay it down and put the horn directly on top or bottom of the woofers.
  3. no, what I mean is.......other than aethestically is there a reason for the horn to be mounted in the box. For example..... the woofer has to be in there because it needs the box to make sound. Does the horn use the box to make sound?? Obvously the horn needs to be very close to the drivers but does it need to be in the box???
  4. I was thinking about making my center a rf-7, but just to try it out I don't wan't to start chopping one up, I was thinking I could take the horn out, seal it back up with a small piece of mdf, put it on its side, and place the horn on top. I favor the rf-7 over the rc-7 in A-B comparison it seems much smoother and softer in action scenes but I'm not 100% sure about the dialog (it seems ok), but I can't A/B them in the exact same location, and until you use it for several movies you don't know for sure. So like I said "does the horn have to be in the box"????
  5. I have rf-7 mains and a rc-7 center and I small treated room (15.5 x 23 x 9.5) My receiver is the denon 2808 and I use audyssey flat. I can hear most of all the detail. I feel like during action scenes the center gets a little loud but I need to leave it at or close to the same volume so I can hear the dialog. I did borrow one of my buddies rf-7's and tried it as a center and liked the actions better (seemed alot smoother) but the dialog was a little too laid back plus I can't leave the center standing in the middle so I would have to lie it down and rearrange the face like a center channel and that way too much work also my center is above my screen and an RF-7 is really heavy. So my question is.......rc-64-is it smoother than the rc-7 while keeping the dialog "up front". thanks rich
  6. I was thinking about buying a 250w X 2 acurus amp for my mains and a 200w X 3 for my center and rears. WOULD THESE AMPS SOUND AS GOOD AS THE 1095.......close.......any comparison. Or should I just wait for a 1095. thanks rich PS my goal is a warm amplifier for my rf7's---rc-7----rf-5's. on a beer budget
  7. what do you guys think in my price range I narrowed it down to either the ROTEL 1095 or the B&K 7250. wich one meet or exceeds my criteria. thanks rich
  8. I've ruled out outlaw.....they are neutral at best, more like brite.
  9. I have 2 questions for you guys. 1. what is the best 3 channel amp for rf-7's and the rc-7. (just in case I decided to go crazy) 2. what is the best "bang for the buck" 3 channel amp. Let me tell you what I'm looking for-----I would like a warm/smooth amp. I just sold my emotiva lpa-1 and it was pretty harsh so now I'm just using my denon 2808 and thats alot better but my sound stage has shrank a little. I don't want to keep buying and selling amps. I want to go 3 channel to save a little coin and also IN MY OPINION the rear channels sound just fine with the receiver powering them, I also am basically just using my system for movies, I next to never listen to music and when I do its 2 channel. My main goal with the amp is to make the center a little louder (for diolog) while at the same time making my mains not so harsh during action movies. The denon is doing alot better job but I know it can get alot better. The amps I was thinking about are the rotel rb-993 --- B&K Ref 200.3--- aragon 8008 ---Earthquake Cinenova Grande---or If you guys like the 200w emotiva or an outlaw --ect......I'm open for suggestions (like I said before looking for warm and smooth) and also to be perfectly honest what do you guys think of the rotel RB-993 it seems like a great deal (money wise) or the B&K. I would like to stay between 600.00---900.00. thanks rich
  10. couldn't you put the center on top of your tv??? They say that is the best place for a more "natural sound" any way.
  11. If you know of anybody looking for a pair of med oak kg 5.5's I have them listed for sale in a garage sale post.
  12. audiogon has a listing for a single damaged (the box is the only thing damaged) rf-7... that should have the driver you are looking for, you might be able to score it pretty reasonable.
  13. Its not that I'm trying to steal one so to speak but they were selling brand new for 550.00 at my local klipsch dealer last year, the other is thing is the rc-64 sells brand new for 750.00 with full 5 year warrenty. So my point is why pay new price for used product IF the new stuff will do the same thing!!!!
  14. the rb-75 have a diff horn ( K-50.1-DB 1.75) than the rc-7 (K-67-DV 1.75"). So how did it sound??
  15. ya I saw that thread but it doesn't really tell me anything one guy says he has the rc-64 with the rf-7's and loves it, and the next guy doesn't understand how thats possible. I guess what I'm looking for is a couple of people that have AB them with rf-7's. I realize that a rc-7 would be the "be all end all". But my understanding is that the rc-64 is just a hair softer and smoother but with better diolog than the rc-7. So as long as its softer and smoother and not harsher and briter I would think it would blend just fine.
