  1. @winglet  So is the woofer with the missing dust cap the one making the noise?  Do you have the dust cap that can simply be glued back on?  As mentioned, Klipsch has no parts for anything but their Heritage stuff, for the most part.  If it's truly bad, look on e b a y, etc., for parted out speakers.  If you find some, buy two so you have a spare.  Personally, I wouldn't mess with changing out the capacitors in those as I would think they were still fine.  Now, if there is an electrolytic in each, that could be replaced with a new electrolytic like a Mundorf E-cap, which is reasonable.  No reason to replace those electrolytics with poly caps in that part of the circuit.  But, it's your money.

  2. I just missed a $30 pair of T50's 45 minutes from me that had been listed for 2 hours and only needed a woofer.  I didn't need them upstairs but would have put them in my teenage son's room.  Dammit...

  3. I love my CF-3's but if I were to ever decide to spend bigger money on speakers, I'd buy CF-4's long before I would older Cornwalls, Chorus, or Forte's, etc.  But that's just me.

Good luck with your sale!  And I know where DFW is as I lived there from 2001 till 2009.

  4. Re-posting it as "plain text" which is a whole lot easier to read on a dark theme.  You can always tell when someone copies and pastes their ad from another location.  :)

    GLWS!

I have a pair of Black La Scala Speakers for sale. Loved using them for 10+ years, but it's time to downsize to a pair of Heresy. Superior AL-3 Crossovers and painted black by original owner.  I hate to get rid of them, but the wife has given me no choice :)

They are in good condition, but the original owner had termites in the wood. I have fumigated them and the termites are no longer an issue, but there are traces of small holes (mostly on one speaker).

They sound great and aside from the few small holes and a few nicks on the corners (as seen in photos) they are fully functional.

Located in Saint Petersburg, FL and am only willing to sell in person with cash.

Don't waste your time with scams, I WONT ship, I only take cash in person. Can audition on a Fisher 500c if you'd like.

Photos can be seen at my Craigslist post: https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/ele/d/saint-petersburg-klipsch-la-scala-1990/7595330108.html

  5. Well, literally 3 years later since I'd replaced the majority of the smaller caps inside the amp and got it working, I decided to hook it back up and do some listening.  Jeez....why didn't I leave this amp in 3 years ago?  I'm not going to go into a bunch of funny sounding descriptions of sound but lets just say those 32 Mosfet's have some magic in them.  Gong back through music I'm intimately familiar with over the last 40+ years of listening to many systems, I can say that I'm quite impressed, and happy, with this amp being the "main" now.  I've read where people compare Mosfet amps, like Hafler, to tube amps in some respects.  Could be I guess.  All I can say is, it sounds outstanding on the Epic CF-3's.

Still seriously contemplating getting a new preamp and replace the almost 40 year old Carver C-1.  Although extensively rebuilt, I would have to think something even like a Rotel RC1572 MkII would make a difference.  Who knows.

Can anyone tell me how to load pics?  Even if I try to load one on the ad I just posted it says it’s too big?   I don’t get it?  Thanks in advance!

    best, jon

PC or Mac?  iOS or Android?  What device?  Samsung phones can resize within their Photos app.  Not sure about Apple stuff as I avoid them.  Windows 10 pics can be resized using the default Photos app or MS Paint.  Just resize and do a Save As so you keep the original size if you're so inclined.

Don't tell me its the CF-3's.  Please, even if it is, lie to me.  LOL.  Now I have to get a replacement woofer before I decide to part them out.  I may hook up the good one and put it next to the cornwall and do a side by side with just one speaker.

I'm just sayin' like so many others have said.  It's probably one of the best sounding series that ever came out of Klipsch and Roy did an awesome job with them.  They are the sleepers of the entire line and definitely are a different beast in comparison to the others.

I cannot tell a lie.  All of the others are gone except for the CF-3's.  I keep thinking I want to buy something new(er) but it would honestly take a good chunk of money to step up the ladder even a little bit.  Anymore, it's just not worth it to me.  I'm not chasing stuff like I used to feel like I had to do. (not that it wasn't fun for awhile)  I was upstairs listening at a low volume last night as my wife and I were looking up trucks and even on Spotify, with its 320k files, the damn things sounded awesome as always.

Give them a fair shot and let you ears, and your room, equipment, etc., help make that decision.  Bad part is, it may be awhile before you see more CF-3 woofers.  But be patient.

I missed out on them.  I emailed the guy and offered him $200 for 2.  He said no...

After seeing how quickly he sold the woofers, crossovers and horns I might be parting mine out.  I have 3 good woofers, and the horns and crossovers are fine.  Based on that guys prices, it will cover the $575 I paid for the speakers.  Even if I bring them back to life, I cant imagine listening to the CF-3 over my Cornwall II's.  Plus I am officially out of room.  Still trying to figure out if I can put both my 2 channel setups along with my surround sound set up in the same space.

I get what you're saying.  He sold all 4 already?  Dang...  I will tell you first hand, I had CF-3's at the same time as '78 Cornwalls, KLF-30's and a pair of Belle inspired clones that I built.  Guess which ones I still have...  ;)   Just remember there's about 14% worth of e b a y fees when you sell there plus that dang 1099K tax crap.

Yes, that is where I need help with the tuning.  But if I match the klf cabinets and drivers ...put a crites klf xover in it... .I know I need to port(front firing).  The rear port is the only thing I don't like about the real klfs. But use the same port hole size...then it should be close or the same as the klfs? I'm not seeing a big problem here.

Making the cabinets is easy for me.  I was an car installer, that used to compete.  I have made tons of boxes.  Most custom fiberglass.  I have been in the building trades most of my life.  From framing to finish to metal fabrication to machining.  I can build pretty much anything to very high tolerances and standards.

Yeah, I did car audio from 1983 till 2009, when I got out of the industry; the last 8 years I was a manufacturers rep for Rockford, Lightning Audio, MBQ, Q-Logic, Clarion, and some others.  Was a fun time but glad to be out of that industry.  lol  Also did home A/V in retail and as a rep for many lines, of course.

I don't have any tools to help with the tuning and I don't know if the T/S parameters are even out there to do use.  Not to mention, anymore, Klipsch doesn't really think highly of their speakers being "redone" and they sometimes drop threads here.  Maybe that's more with the Heritage since that's still current and not so much on things like Tangent, Epic, KLF, etc,  But who knows.  There are other forums where you can freely discuss these things without fear of deletion.

Adding another chamber is easy....I'm talking about essentially turning the t500 into a klf30.  And making entirely new cabinets.  Having it on an active network

Ok, so IF you do it where it's like a KLF-20/30, so to speak, they could share cabinet volume BUT there's more that goes into it than just putting two woofers in a cabinet made from nice wood and good bracing, then working out the port tuning frequency, then building the networks to be "in tune" with the speakers as a whole, etc.  I guess if you're just shooting from the hip and whatever happens happens, it's all in good fun.  Typically that's where you need the T/S parameters of the woofers  to find the right cabinet volume and tuning using various programs.  Good luck.

  11. So you're talking about adding a woofer with it's own amp in that location where the passive was and sharing the same air space as the other woofer that will be tied in to a different amp?

Absolute foolishness is what I would call it...being nice.  Just add a sub and call it good.  But, if you go ahead and do them in the same cabinet, at the least put the woofers in SEPARATE chambers.

@Jefferson6599  Yeah, I saw that one, too.  Dude is parting out a complete set.  Heck, there's a woofer or two right there.  I'd email the guy and find out what the serial numbers are on the cabinets are which will tell you the version and potential woofer model.

Edit:  Me personally, if I had a pair of these with a bad woofer and I came across this auction, I'd be buying TWO woofers so I had a spare.  I will tell you from experience of owning 3 pairs of these....you will NOT find any other speakers that will do so much so well for the money.  Period.  I have a spare woofer and a pair of spare K-63-N drivers as backup and am glad of it.

Edit again:  Ok, I read the listing better....they are K-1030 woofers which will work perfect.  Get a couple!  Too bad he didn't have the HF drivers separate where one could have been bought.  But, both were sold as complete pairs.  They are sought after now.  They are same HF drivers for CF-3 and CF-4.
