  1. The new Yammies are in, 3 models to choose from. Top dog is $499.00. Gives you 5 channel stereo, componet video switching, Top Art Circuitry, etc, etc, etc. I think they are trying to compete with Wal Mart!
  2. A t-shirt? Wow, I already made room for my set of RF-7's. I mean, 50 of us helping, Klipsch cost per speaker (we would pay shipping--right) vs the never ending praise we would put out all over the world for the honor of demoing these new babes in our home. Hey, now thats a GIFT!!! Uh, BobG, we will probably need a little insider support to get this suggestion through administration. We needs must love the highest when we hear it! 3. Truth "It's a beautifull thing...oh yea babe!"
  4. I think it's a matter of personal preference. I use the SC-1 with my KSF 8.5's and feel it's OK. I would demo the surrounds in your house & see which you like better. Listen to music & movies because they are different. I went with floor speakers for my rears, but, that's my ears! Enjoy
  5. Ditto on the speaker placement. I found placement makes all the difference (correct toe in & distance from rear wall). When I moved my sub to the back of the room it became much more impressive! Split your sub cable also, will give you about +8db & that goes a long way with the KSW 10.
  6. I think you'll love it--I would! As for as a substitute for the RC-3, don't worry about it. You can feed the center information to the mains with the Yammy until you get a center. That's what I did. Save your money, the wait will make you enjoy it even more. Of course once the new Refs come out shortly, you may decide you have to have them instead! We need must love the highest when we hear it!
  7. Hey guys, surfing and found this site boundforsound.com . Anybody familiar with these guys? Reads like a source for good info!
  8. Just curious about what you mean by "more flexability?" The RXV 1000 is has some good features...what is it the B&K is offering you that has tweaked your interest? Have you considered a amp/preamp? May be worth considering--lots of people here get into their tubes. You could get a serious tube amp for the cost of the 5800. Check out sasaudiolabs.com (interesting 7.1 channel tube setup).
  9. OK, here's the rule....There is no rule! Lots of people have amp rated wit more output than the speakers can handle--they don't turn them up all the way! When a company says their speaker is rated @ 50 watts with a 200 watt max, they mean it can handle 50 watts continuously. Now in a movie, when like a bomb goes off or something, the amp deilvers much more power to the speaker to drive it to get that sound out with impact. This is a short burst and speakers can handle short bursts just fine. The 200 watt max is what this is referring to. What is more important is the sensitivity of the speaker. This should be marked on the speaker (i.e. 94 db @ 1 watt/meter). This is a measurement of how loud the speaker will play per measure of power imput. This is where Klipsch rules! Klipsch speakers are very effecient--like above. It means that the speaker will produce 94 db's with 1 watt of power imput @ 1 meter (distance in front of the speaker). So you can see that your speakers can play very loud without a lot of power if they are very effecient! Now it doesn't double with the imput, it's kinda a negative exponential thing (log 10 something or another--a little help here guy's). My receiver is rated @ 75 watts/channel--I rarely turn it up past 1/4 unless the wife isn't home & then rarly more than 1/2 way. I have KSF 8.5's rated @ 94 db's. They get too loud.
  10. I use a Rad Shack Gold Series A/V interconnect for my VCR to Receiver to TV & it does just fine. The rule of thumb is co-ax is baseline, then Composite Video, then S-Video, then Componet Video. You get a bigger improvement upgrading from Composite to S-Video than from S-Video to Componet Video. Guess it depends on your equipment and personel taste and love of tweeking. I use Monster Cable Componet Video II Cable between my DVD and TV & love the picture. Many places will let you demo their cables/interconnects, giveing then a try in home is the best way to decide.
  11. Commonly referred to as bi-wiring, you will get varying opinons on this. Many feel they hear a difference, more feel there is more return with bi-amping (2 different amps). Won't hurt a thing, give it a try and let us know what you think!
  12. Hey, I have the SC-1 also and also have that unnatural thing with the sheets--or at least that's what my wife says! Just last night when she was coming to bed she got all upset and said "Now dad gum it Quenten, it's either the speaker or me...what's it gonna be!!! Gee, why are women so moody!!!!
  13. I just watched Red Planet and was actually considering turning down the bass during the movie--was wondering if my company was thinking I had really gone over the edge. But then it came to me--I have gone over the edge! Aaaaaaa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaaa!!!
  14. Are you going strickly music or HT or both?
  15. I have the KSF 8.5's & use the SC-1 and find the match to be good. It's the center of choice according to my local dealer & the speaker matching chart. Don't know what it used to be--any help guy's?
  16. Hey Boa, good to hear from you again You know it really temps me to get those 10's. I don't think I would ever be satisfied though--the 20' & 30's add so much more. I ask if they were planning anything with them & they said no. Too bad, cause I fell in love with the 30's. He has his demo model (30's/which are banged up) out on the main floor marked down to $749 ea--not even hooked up, just out there, abandoned, like an ugly stepchild! It's enough to make a grown man cry. Oh well, we can always look forward to lusting after those new refs. We needs must love the highest when we hear it!
  17. Here we go again with Sound Advice & great deals! KLF 10's are @ $549.00 each--& now 50% off in the Tallahassee, FL store. No deals on the other Legends %#^***! Thanks Sound Advice & Klipsch! Would be great to see a closeout deal on the 20's & 30's!!!!!
  18. A lot of people don't have matching surrounds, myself included and I enjoy my system (use full size floor speakers in the rear--old Panasonic Thrusters). The RS's will match better, the issue is does it make a difference to you. Demo them in home and see. I recommend trying both DD & DTS soundtracks. If you listen to 5 channel stereo (I find music is always more demanding than HT) you may prefer the reference model. Is your system for HT or music or what?
  19. I think the system preforms better than most systems in it's price range. I understand what he means by the "voice" thing. Mine is a little weak (SC-1). I plan on upgrading when I can. It depends on what kind of emphasis you place on your system. It's an entry level system with an entry level price!
  20. When you go through your receiver you also get the advantage of the "on screen menu." My receiver doen'nt have componet video switching, when I watch DVD's I have to squint at the receiver to see what I'm adjusting!
  21. The new Yamaha's are out & boy have they challenged the price market. Definatley worth checking out (excellent entry level models for < $500)
  22. Good excuse to get to know your local dealer! Go in talk to him, shoot the breeze for a while, tell him what you know and what you want. If he's worth dealing with he'll help you with everything you need, at least some brochures. Also try yamaha.com
  23. Go check out the new Yammy's The new line is out. I think the the # is RXV560 (looked at them for the first time yesterday--100 watt/ch, 5 channel stereo, componet video switching & more). And now for page 2...all for under $500. Don't walk, run to your local showroom!
  24. I was in Sound Advice yesterday & they are selling the KG 3.5's. Didn't look at them except in passing--I think they were $399. Sound Advice is knowm for working deals with Klipsch to make more of a discontinued line (last year they did the KSF 8.5 "buy 1 get one free" deal with like 20,000 pairs). If these are not in production anymore, they must be doing this again! I love these kind of deals. Keep up the good work Klipsch!
  25. Brian The gold plates are used if you are not bi-amping or bi-wiring. As such the signal goes to both the woofer & tweeter. If you were bi-amping, one amp hooked to the bottom connectors would drive the woofer & a second amp connected to the top connectors would drive the tweeter. In bi-wiring you would use the "A & B" speaker outs & go to each of the pair of speaker connections, again remove the bridge. A lot of debate of whether it makes a difference. Most people think bi-amping makes more difference.
