  1. One more ! Is the dial face supposed to light up ?
  2. Thanks everyone for the advice so far ! Does anyone know if this is an original grill. It did tear the metal on each end at the fold. This is a close-up.
  3. I recently purchased a Fisher 400 from a forum member. It arrived today and when I opened the box the top grill was damaged. I am hoping to find someone that might have a grill for it. Everything else looked good ! here is a pic of what it looks like.
  4. My hobby was drag racing for over 20 years until I gave it up in the fall of 2007. I sold everything I had and with a pocket full of money I wanted to get into audio and video so I would have something to do on Friday and Saturday nights. The only speakers I could remember were Bose 901,s so I bought 3 pair before I heard the first set. When I got them I knew I was going to enjoy 2-channel as my hobby. I kept looking for more speakers to listen to and found a set of 1980 Klipsshorns that were one owner and in mint condition. They were absolutely beautiful and I knew I wanted them but didnt know anything about them so I came here and joined the forum. I posted a thread looking for info on them. I got alot of great responces but 1 has always stuck in my mind, it was from " Master Thebes ". Be careful of the advice you take from this guy because it can lead to a serious adiction. Here is what he said. < QUOTE > Welcome aboard. Seriously, the very first thing I would do is box up those 901's, return them, get your money back and put that towards buying the Khorns. For your info Bose products are almost universally scorned among serious stereo folks for being overpriced and massaging the sound they produce. Khorns are absolutely wonderful speakers. Used would be a great way to go until you figure out if you are going to stick with the hobby. Since you considering 1980 models you should definitely spend a few bucks on new capacitors in the speaker crossovers. Typical capacitors have a useful service life of 20 years. A fellow called BEC on this forum can fix you up with those. I have owned over 50 pairs of Klipsch speakers in the last 2 years trying everything in the heritgae line and still have 13 pairs including 2 pairs of Khorns. I cant imagine not ownig Klipsch speakers from now on ! I definately have my favorites ! Don
  5. Looks like a great price ! Audiotubes.com wants $450 for this one.
  6. Thanks pmsummer, I didnt know it at the time I bought this but he has the matching s-2200 tuner with the same case. I have looked at other tuners but none had cases. I am picking up the tuner tomorrow.
  7. Thanks Fini ! I hope it sounds good tomorrow when we bring it back to life. I have pretty much decided to let him restore it but I want to bring it home first to see how it sounds on my Khorns. The tech has Altec Lansing voice of the theater which should make it sound nice ! After that we will see.
  8. one more showing the case which seems to be in great condition !
  9. Here is a picture after a few hours of cleaning, there is still alot more to be done.
  10. Fini, thats the one ! I ended up getting it for $300 but the problem was that it had no preamp tubes. All 5 he said were bad and he would buy new RCA tubes tomorrow morning @ $10 each or he had 5 nos telefunkin 12AX7 that he had $400 in them and I could have them for $250. After looking at ebay and some other sources I ended up buying them. I am looking at this to be a good first experience with tubes so I didnt want to cheap out. Pboblem is I still havent heard it. Were going to his tech tomorrow or tuesday to have it powered up on a variac. It has been stored away for a year. It is not in clean condition by any means. Here is a picture I took before doing any cleaning.
  11. I have a few of the Sansui xoxo series and I use the Adcom GCD-600 with them. Make sure you get the remote with it !
  12. I am seriously into 70,s solid state receivers but have always read how good tubes are with Klipshohns. I am looking to buy this integrated amp but I dont know anything about it. I figure there are alot hear that have owned one or listened to one and could give me an opinion. I realize it is not a high dollar tube amp but I dont want to spend alot just to see if I like the sound. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Don
  13. Thanks dtel.... I have a 930 that I will have to try. Out of the 20 vintage receivers that I own I have yet to find one that sounds better than a Sansui 8080db including my Yamaha CR-3020. I had sent Budman a message asking him about bi-wiring and he said normal also. Thanks !!
  14. I bought Cornwall III today and dont know anything about bi-wiring. Can this be done with Vintage Sansui receivers ? What are the advantages of bi-wiring ?
  15. Ive got 4 khorns in my home theater with an Academy w/popbumpers xovers and I like it ! I tried a Belle and didnt like it and dont have room fdor a Lascala !
  16. I say if those are your KLF-30,s sitting beside your fireplace you should spread them out as far as you can and they will sing better !
  17. Take a look at the first post in this thread, I think that is the current line up !
  18. Sounds like you got a steal! CWR stands for Cornwall Walnut Rubbed oil.Enjoy! It that were the case it would be CWRO and there is nothing like that. It would be CWO. There also is no CWR that I could find either !
  19. The ultimate is 4 K-horns. Its like being in a movie theater !
  20. I am pretty impressed with what I hear on cds, but I must admit, I don't have a high-end cd player to put it up against. The best disc player I own, (besides the 5900) is the Denon 2910, which is a bit newer technology than the 5900 and seems to do a good job retrieving the info. on the disc properly. I should probably hunt down a very high-end cd player for a good price in order to make an accurate assessment. Tom Hey Tom, I started out with 4 Adcom GCD-600's and they are not expensive cd players. IMHO they sound much better than the 5900. I have not tried the 5900 through my SS equipment, that may be the ticket. The difference may be using 2-channel equipment verses an AV/R receiver, I really dont know. I only bought the Rega Apollo to see if I was really missing something. Again IMHO I didnt really see alot of difference although it is a very nice unit !
  21. I am using a Denon 5900 with my Denon 5803 av/r. This is a great combo for movies and music dvd,s but I dont like cd,s through this sysyem. It may be me because I am not very knowledgeable about these componets. I much prefer my Rega Appllo with my Vintage Sansui when listening to cd,s.
  22. This is easier to look at ! http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/103886/1048788.aspx#1048788
  23. I am curious, what kind of problems can you have with a burned CD ?
  24. I have now hooked a Sansui 9090db up in the place of the 8080db and with everything set the same at 30% volume it does not pop. I am being told by my tech that maybe the Klipsch speakers do not like the 8080db and to try a different speaker. I have a hard time believing the Klipsch speakers dont like that particular receiver.
  25. Lets see ! That means I am going to have to but 8 SVS Ultras and 4 Sampson amps as I have Khorns in 2 rooms and Chorus II,s in 2 rooms. How much is that going to cost ! LOL
