  1. I recall you recently made that short trip to cedar rapids last summer. I think these are indeed a handsome speaker, I don't have the money or the space for them.
  2. Thanks for the input, I'll keep the dealers in mind when I decide what to go with. I'll start with the driver and phase inverter and work back.
  3. The 6dj8 tube placement was changed out in favor of the 6h30.
  4. One other small thing that I've noticed, when the amps and pre amp are powered on and the volume is all the way down I can still hear faint audio out of the right channel, the left channel is almost mute compared to the right channel. This does not change when the channel levels are adjusted individually, the amount of sound stays consistent regardless of the level adjustments. When the volume is turned on, everything functions smoothly as it should. This is a very nit picky observation, I just want to ensure that it's not a precursor to some other issue that could become dangerous or damaging.
  5. There's nothing glaringly wrong with the sound, maybe a little more sizzle on the top than I expected, with cymbals and sibilance at higher listening levels. That being said , I wanted to start with a fresh set of tubes to give everything a fair chance at what it should sound like. Bill told me the items had been gone through by their respective creators in 06-08 if I recall correctly, I presume all tubes are atleast that old or older. He was the second owner, So I'm unsure if the tubes are all performing as they should. The output tubes have signs of corrosion from storage, maybe this is common, however , new to me. Please advise if I should sit back and listen or replace?
  6. I recently purchased a Blueberry and VRDs from a fellow forum member, Silversport. I've been reading about various tubes and their sound characteristics. I continue to have some questions, substitution and where would you start your upgrade path of replacing tubes? Substitution , first, Craig mentions that some Tubes choices require a 5u4gb rectifier tube, which tube choices require this change? Is this only dependent on output tubes , or does the driver and phase inverter influence the rectifier choice? Could one simply choose the 5u4gb rectifier and continue to use kt88/90 and EL 34/84 ? Next, if you were to start an upgrade of tubes , for both pre-amp and amp , where would you start? It seems from my reading that the phase inverter may be the most important tube followed by Valve 1, would most of you agree with this, which would lead me to assume that this would be the start of replacing tubes. Would you start in the amp or the preamp with tube selection? Should one be inclined to search out tubes for personal sound characteristics and place these in the preamp section to mould your personal preferences and then send it to the amp with a more neutral tube selection? Or vice versa? My concern with following with personal taste from preamp to amp may end up with too much of a good thing, so I was thinking of striking a balance between warm, fun, musical and detail but not too analytical. I did kind of go through a wish list of new tubes all at once, this way isn't going to happen for a little while as I spent my fun money on these items. I can however pick and choose every month and want to make sure I'm going in the right direction.
  7. I bought Bill's VRDs and Blueberry last week. Id have no hesitation to do buy from him again, purchase with confidence.

  9. It's nice to see these finally come down to a realistic price. They were listed for 2 months at 5k.
  10. Thank You to everyone who responded. The membership on this forum is second to NONE.
  11. I wouldn't want to drag it out any longer than possible for respect to the seller.
  12. Is there someone here in the Scottsdale area that would be able to help me with a CL transaction? Then ship it to me? Small item, less the 100$
  13. Can anyone comment on the type of crossover? Is it modeled after Bobs 4500 xover ? I already have a set of ct125s.
  14. 1.Klipschorn 2.RF 7 (Deang) 3.Klf 30 4.La Scala Seems I could alternate any of the 4 depending on listening mood. They all excel in different areas , very dependent on genre of music.
  15. I loved my rf5s , I recently sold them to my father in law. They are a great speaker with a smallish footprint. They were my introduction to Klipsch, I bought them new in ~2004 for around 1500$ if I recall correctly. MSRP for RF 5s was around 850-900$ EACH and RF 7s were about the price of the new RF 7II (1100-1200 EACH) RF5s at any price under 600 IMO is really an outstanding deal. They have never generated interest like RF7s which is unfortunate because they sound more balanced through the midrange. Due to their smaller size and similar specs to lesser models like the rf3 (II) and RF 82 has really brought their overall value down. There is no comparison when it comes to sound quality and workmanship, the RF 5 wins hands down every time.
  16. My short wall is similar in length to yours, depth is longer. My concern was similar to yours after reading about the space "requirements". I took the plunge anyways because I wanted a pair and come to find out I was absolutely thrilled with them. They are not ideal in all aspects, imaging isn't pinpoint like my other setups, sound stage could be more coherent. Despite these 'shortcomings' due to room size, they make up by the sheer magnitude of the soundstage and over all toe tapping experience. The sweet spot is limited if you want all the above, which is OK with me because I'm the only one who cares. You can tailor the soundstage and imaging if you'd like by disconnecting the top hat and adjusting the toe in or toe out depending on your needs.
  17. I keep telling my wife and myself the same thing. No more speakers, no more amps, no more guitars....but when deals are good it's hard to resist. I would like to get a pair of chorus II and hopefully that will be the last pair.
  18. Welecome to the club....Now that you've admitted that you have the sickness, the only solution is to continue to indulge in it. hahah
  19. I can echo what Jim said, I drove 14 hour round trip to pick up a set of Khorns, from Fleawatt. Very good to deal and a knowledgeable diy'er. GLWS.
  20. I was a little thrown off by Jurrasic World when I loaded it up. It was an easy enough adjustment ,however, any new movie that's not 2.4:1 kind of disappoints me a little becuase it's so damn awesome in 2.4:1. Currently running a CIH 120" setup with a JVC RS4810.
