    Klf-20

I saw some on ebay.com the other day. They could still be there. If not, a pair usually pops up every couple of weeks. Also check www.ubid.com, they use to have a bunch. If nothing else, go to yahoo shopping. They have some merchants that are a little pricey (I would wait on ebay or ubid): http://shopping.yahoo.com/shop?d=zstw&id=1990333679&cf=9&clink=dmss-browse
  2. Thanks for all the replys! (I posted this also in the Technical Forum) Thanks for everyone's help and I am sorry I have not had an update. I've been very busy lately and have not had the time to deal with this problem I tried every setting combination with the DVD player and receiver and still no change. Then it dawned on me that my room acoustics are horrible. The walls are sheetrock and are painted with a semi-glossy paint. They are very reflective and if I snap my fingers or clap I can hear a wicked echo that is painfull to the ears. I have only been in this apartment for a few months, and never noticed it before. I am farily certain that this is the main problem. Hopefully, when time and money permits, I can begin experimenting with sound dampening. Does anyone have suggestions for inexpensive, yet effective dampening materials? I have seen professional studio foam, but it's on the expensive side, would egg crate foam suffice? Thanks again for everyone's help!

  4. How loud is this hiss? A little hiss is normal for just about every system. But if it is audible over the music then it's too loud. Most likely it is not the speakers. Check your connections. What kind of wire/connectors are you using? I do suggest that you try to isolate the problem by switching out the reciever. If it is not the reciever, it could be many other things. I had a loud hiss at one time and it was the receiver, luckily I could still take it back. Some other causes may be electronic noise. Do you have many speaker wires crossed with one another? This can cause hiss. Noise from the power outlet can sometimes cause hiss with a receiver. You can buy a line conditioner if this is the problem, but they can be pricey. Good luck. 5. I just wanted to clear up the "harshness" issue. I know Klipsch speakers can be bright, this I dont mind. This is not the "harshness" I am hearing. It's really hard to describe the harshness. I cant really hear it as a definite sound, but it's more of an underlying background noise. This noise is not very audible, but it leaves my ears hurting and I cannot finish two songs. I have heard several pair of Klipsch demos and loved them and I also love playing DVD's on my system, so I know it's not the speakers. Thanks for the replys and I will think about everyone's suggestions.
  6. Just letting you know that I saw the KSP's on ebay and they are up to $540 (ouch!). I think there are 4 days left.
  7. I love Klipsh speakers but there are many good choices out there. I suggest you find as many A/V shops as you can and audition as many different brands as possible (look in the phone book under "audio" for dealers. There probably is more than 2, if not, I would drive to the nearest larger city and visit some there.) Here are some speakers that I found to be good value and incredible sound for my budget, which was considerably less than yours. Klipsch Paradigm Definitive Technology There were others that I was less impressed with and I have already forgotten them. I also liked Mirage speakers, but too pricy for me. I have heard good things about NHT, PSB, B&W but have not experienced them personally. Ultimatley the best speakers are what YOU like. Take the suggestions you get and listen for yourself. If you like the Promedia speakers, then you will be blown away by Klipsch's normal speakers, so it's definitely a good place to start. Good luck.
  8. I had a good experience with Ubid too. I picked up a KLFC7 for just under $300. It arrived fairly quickly and it great shape. Ive seen pairs of KLF20s go for around $700, so I highly suggest picking some up if you are in the market.
  9. Thanks for everyone's help. I actually posted this in the Technical Forum also, if anyone is interested in more feedback. I think it may be the CD player as many people have suggested. Hopefully I can borrow or audition one soon. I wanted to clear up that the harshness I heard was like an underlying sound that wore down my ears - it is really difficult to describe. I think that the KLF's have an inherent "brightness" to them, but the sound Im hearing is different from the brightness. I dont mind the brightness, and it actually has mellowed out some due to wear-in and the receiver, but the harshness is unbearable. Thanks again for the help.
  10. Thanks for everyone's help so far. Now that I have read everyone's suggestions I realize that it may be the DVD player. The sound is great when watching DVD's and I have a few concert DVD's that sound incredible too. Absolutely no harshness when playing DVD's. I will also look at the speaker wire and consider an additional amp (which I was going to add eventually already, just for more power), and sound dampening. I will start by trying to find a decent CD player. Hopefully I can borrow or audition one. If that proves to be the problem, any suggetions for a decent quality one for around $200 (if one exists at that price)? Thanks again for everyone's help and I will let you know how it turns out.
  11. Hello, Every time I listen to music with my Legends (KLF 20 & KLF C7 - no surrounds) it sounds extremely harsh. Ive owned these speakers for over 6 months now and they still are harsh. I have just now been able to describe the harshness. It is not anything specific that stands out, rather it is just an underlying sound that is there. My ears get worn down and begin to hurt after just 2 songs. I have no problem when watching movies, just when listening to CDs (this happens with all CD's, not just old or poor quality ones) Im powering them with a Denon 2801 and have Monster bulk speaker wire (the $1.50/ft kind). I have a Toshiba 3109 DVD player that I also use to play cd's and it's connected by an optical cable. I have tried using a coax cable, but it does not make a difference. I turned down the treble, it did not help either. Any suggestions on what's causing this and how to get rid of it???? THANKS

  14. If you are still shopping, I would definitely go with the Legend series. They have been discontinued and you can get them for 50% off MSRP. Here are the estimated prices: Mains: KLF20 - $700-800 Center: KLFC7 - $300-350 Surrounds: RS3 - $400 (there is no Legend surrounds) These are increidble speakers and I would have gladly paid full price for them. Go and check them out at a dealer, if they still have some, and then check out www.ubid.com and ebay for some great deals. Good luck.
  15. I agree that there should be some regulation of Klipsch products, but there needs to be some meeting ground for future distribution. I recently visited my local dealer and inquired about a KLFC7 speaker. The MSRP is $600. The salesperson pulled it up on the computer and it showed that they stopped carrying it and it had sold out at dealer cost for $300. A 100% markup is ridiculous. Restricting sales hampers the free market and makes such markups possible. There needs to be a compromise where compition can reduce dealer profits to a more beneficial level for the customer. Authorizing more dealers, wether online or not, would help make this possible.
  16. If you want to check out some online store reviews, visit www.audiosurvey.com and click on "mail order".
  17. I just bought some KLF20's online. The dealer said that he himself was not authorized, but that his ditributor was Klipsch authorized and that the 5 year warranty was valid. Is this true??? Thanks.
