  1. My original Post was from 2008, but I never ended up doing the mod. I moved into a different house and I like the way they sound now.
  2. They do have Large coasters under them, she learned her lesson the first time a candle melted onto carpet.
  3. With Grills on so they are protected from destruction little hands.
  4. Cable management is coming in time.
  5. I know I need a little cable management, just have not gotten time to take care of it.
  6. I finally have some pics to post of my humble system. I have read alot on this forum over the last 5 years or so, but within my life I can't apply everything I have learned due to children and WAF, but any way here we go.
  7. It is just on the inputs of the amp. Directly on top of the rca inputs. The avr adjusted so that all channels are probably set.
  8. I don't think there is a way to turn off the fronts on my avr. Good idea i will have to remember that for future reference.
  9. I have never the heard kg's but I would think they may be a little harsher than the RF-5's. To me I still have the same problem with the highs I guess my ears are sensitive to them. Eventually I hope to get the crossover rebuild, I may do it or just have deang do them since he is who has the experience. I bought them without listening to them but i still love them. They have everything I want in a speaker. My dad runs NHT speakers powered by carver 705 amp it sound really good but I wanted that live sound and I got it with the RF-7's. I haven't had any issues with the shut down using the adcom and probably won't. I looked at getting a marantz but because of funds I ended up with my hk which also does well I just wanted more headroom than what the avr provided. I have also read that the mic from the marantz should not be to far off axis because it will throw off the reading.I have not had a chance to really push the a500x, I got to about 50 watts on the meters and backed down. It just got a little warm. But my hk still continues to run hotter than the a500x when the hk just acts as a preamp. I don't know why this is, I guess it is just the way it is built.
  10. Well for a while now I have been looking for an amp to augment my avr. I found one A Carver a500x. Bass improved mainly, but I think the highs stayed just about the same and for the mid it is a little louder not much. I just notice certain things I have not noticed there before. Got a good price for it I believe. Love the look, for some reason I like amps with meters. I have a few questions. Is it ok to turn off the amp with my adcom ace 515 power conditioner? Were should I adjust the the inputs on the amp itself? This amp has adjustments, right now I have them all the way up, i haven't noticed any problems with having it this way.
  11. Ray you should place this ad in the garage sale section in the forum.
  12. What is the 1 ohm resistor for? Or better yet, were does it go? Never mind I found out why and were it goes http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/60039/588208.aspx. Sorry about that.
  13. I have read a lot of threads about adding a mills 10 ohm 12 watt resistor to the existing 2 ohm resistor on the high freq board. Will this change help the highs the best? Or is there more that needs to be done? Do I just solder the 2 ends to or near the already existing 2 ohm resistor ends? Is it done the same way on the RC-7 and RF-7? I want to be sure before I try this. I think if I add the resistor I will be happier and probably would not to do the extensive crossover as some of you have done. Just want to make sure I do it right. I know that deang has done crossover mods for many. But as I have read he is not currently doing them at this time. Is there anyone else on this forum the does something similar to what deang does? This sounds pretty easy I think I can tackle it with out any adverse reaction. I am new at crossovers and electrical components dealing with home theater so please bear with me if I ask a question about something that is common knowledge to many of you guru's out there.
  14. johnyholiday that is perfect thank you. I have alot of reading to do
  15. I like the way you did that. I was reading that another way is to just get rolls of insulation stack them on top of each other. Then cover in fabric of our own choosing. But I though that it would not look very professional. But I think the way yours is would look great and also help the highs out allot.
  16. I agree completely but my original receiver did not have pre amp out puts on it. Then it finally broke after many years of service. So, I pick up my H/K until I can get the funds together for a nice amp and get started in the way of pre/pro. Then hopefully in the near future I will be able to pick up a high quality amp like the Rotel you were using. I wish money fell off trees, but alas it does not. So the amp will have to wait until I can get the funds together. By the way they do very well with only 50 watts behind them. Loud and clean. Volume is not an issue. I am just trying do small things that will help out down the line. When I can have my own theater with no concerns of neighbors. So currently it is all a compromise for me until that point.
  17. thanks I will try to remember to check out all of forum places before I post something.
  18. My mistake. I just figured it applied directly to home theater. Would you like me to move my conversation to the Architectural forum?
  19. How tall did you make the corner placment one? That looks most like a bass trap to me am I correct?
  20. I plan on using one of 4" design found on the INTERNET. Thanks for clearing it up 4 me.
  21. Well my main object is to control the highs, but if can get away with only use 1 acoustic panel instead of 2 I am all for that. My concern that is if I use one in the corner behind the main speakers (like a bass trap) that it will act as bass trap and take away the bass from the rear ports that need to reflect off of the wall.
  22. If I put panels on a 45 degree angle in the corners behind my mains will that block bass from the speaker? Or should I put them in a L shape behind them?
  23. From what I know the main place to start as far as placement of acoustic panels if the first reflection point. There is also another one on the ceiling and on the floor. But the floor normally has carpet so this is not an issue. I am just a beginner but the guys around here can steer you in the right direction.
  24. I am happy with how the bass is for now, just try to work on the highs. Would the putting panels behind the RF-7 help the highs? As far bass traps that is kinda out of the question being that this is my living room. Not that much space in the corners. When listening in stereo I swear that sometimes the rear speakers are on. Does that mean that I am getting to much reflection of the rear wall? I do know that my dinning room and living room has a lot of echo because when I clap in the room I can hear it. And yes I know how much an and amp and subs will improve the sound. I am looking into dual diy 15's or 18's but I have to wait for funds and probable a bigger house. Take a look at my avatar not much room for dual subs unless I heave the RF-7 on top and put like 5-6 cu ft subs underneath them. Still debating between LLT and Sealed. I listen to a lot of music maybe a movie 1-2 times a week. But I do want that sub Hz kick you in the chest for movies. But it has to be very musical. I can't see spending the money for some thing like a RSW-15 when I know I can do it better. When I do build them I use a front firing sub and if ported those will come out of the front as well, may do a slot port I am still learning. But I do love the way slot porting looks. Like KW-120 for example.
  25. Well I have been doing some reading on diy acoustic panels. From what I have read they can help a lot with sound quality. But I have some questions about acoustic panels that maybe some of you could answer. 1. I have RF-7's would putting acoustic panels behind them on each wall meeting in the corner be a good idea? I just think that it would kinda DE-engineer the rear ports of the RF-7, I thought it was suppose to reflect bass off the wall into the room. 2. They say to use a mirror on the wall to find the first reflection. My first reflection is were there is no wall and a window on the other side. I could put them further back. But that would kind of defeat the purpose right? 3. Should I put them on the far back wall? I read to use some thing called a diffuser instead of the absorption of the acoustic panel. Wouldn't the reflection of the back wall confuse the sound of the rear speakers? I would think it would be better to use an acoustic panel. 4. If you have them how are you using them? Over all I am still pretty happy with my sound. Later I will add a external amp. My H/K will do for now [] . I would like to try to tame the highs a little more. But the H/K helped out a lot. If any one has any good websites or there own version of diy acoustic panel please let me know. Again and always thanks
