  1. I keep the grills on both the Heresys and Cornwalls, but it has more to do with the fear of something accidentally puncturing a driver than looks. Not that the grills offer a ton of protection, but they are a line of defense nonetheless. Aesthetically, I could go either way.
  2. I second what James said. My Cornwalls are in an 11' x 11' spare bedroom. They are about five and a half feet apart. While at my computer, I am sitting only 3 feet away from the left speaker (and 6 feet from the right). While listening from the bed, I am 8 feet from each speaker. I know that this isn't ideal, but for now, it's the only room they will fit in. Before the Cornwalls, I used a pair of Heresys, but it wasn't even close. Not that I didn't enjoy the Heresys, but the Cornwalls are on a whole 'nother level.

    LP's

I don't know the answer to your question, but J&R has 2,594 titles on vinyl listed on their site, and of the several pages I looked through, they all said "In Stock". I've never ordered music from them, so I don't know if you'll end up with a bunch of back orders, or not. http://www.jr.com/category/music/n/4294857003/sort-by-Artist-0/
  4. This would be news to me. A late April fools attempt? ZZ Top have had the same three members since they started in the late 60's.
  5. I lucked out and saw the listing about 20 minutes after it posted. I've made arrangements with the seller to pick them up tomorrow.
  6. Hey Brasse, If you are having them shipped from the U.S., why settle on that beat up pair of Heresys? They are very common in the states, so you should be able to find another, much cleaner, pair in the area where your shipper resides. That is, unless you are getting them for under a couple hundred bucks sans shipping. Otherwise, if you have a little patience, you should be able to find a decent pair in the $300 to $350 range, maybe even cheaper, if you're lucky.
  7. If you are asking about a device that allows you to connect two amps to one set of speakers, I've read good things about the Niles Audio DPS-1: http://www.amazon.com/Niles-DPS1-Audio-DPS-1/dp/B00006HOFR Hope that helps.
  8. Ah, the Expedit shelves from Ikea. I would have gotten them, but was afraid of our cats clawing up the spines of my LP jackets. I ended up getting the Bonde bookcases because of the sealed backs and optional doors, though I prefer the look of the Expedit's open shelves. No relaxing just yet though, you've still got some alphabetizing to do.
  9. Sorry to hear that. Good luck with the sale. I wish you were closer (and I had more expendable income).
  10. I'm confused. These are now listed on Ebay. What made you decide to sell them? http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Cornwall-Speakers_W0QQitemZ160310473195QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSpeakers_Subwoofers?hash=item160310473195&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A10%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
  11. I really like my 2238B, though I have yet to hear it through my Heresys. I've been using a Marantz 2330, which sounds great, but have a feeling that the 2238B receiver would sound even better. I need to dig it out of the garage, one of these days, and test my theory.$220 for all sounds like a decent deal. A good working 2238B usually goes for about $100 on Ebay, if prices haven't changed much in the last year. Whatever you decide on, try to buy local so you can save a few bucks on postage, and, more importantly, avoid shipping damage.
  12. My P3 24 sounds good to me through my Heresys. As you probably know, it's a real no frills player, but, unlike the older P3 and Planar 3 models, it can be used with the TT-PSU (sold separately). This means that if you play a lot of 45s, it will save you the trouble of taking the platter off and adjusting the belt, not to mention that it is supposed to improve the sound. I don't use one, as it's a little pricey, and the turntable sounds just fine to me as is, but would probably pick one up if I ever found it used with a decent markdown. Here's a related article that might help you with your decision: http://www.audioenz.co.nz/2007/vinyl_superrega.shtml
  13. Jay, I believe the ones you are looking at are '85s, but there's a pair of '87s, in my neck of the woods, that someone is asking $800 for. The current range i've seen, for used Cornwalls, in general, is $500 (a steal, if in good condition) to $800. Wow, I just noticed that a pair of Cornwall IIs, described as being in "great condition", recently sold on Ebay for $355, and a pair for $750 BIN didn't sell.
  14. Great deal. I'd buy 'em in a heartbeat if they were anywhere near the Los Angeles area. Thanks for the head to head, Stormin.
  15. It was actually the fight between Larry Holmes and overmatched, but too tough for his own good, Randall "Tex" Cobb, which was preceded, just weeks earlier, by Ray Mancini's fatal victory over Deuk Koo Kim. Incidentally, both Kim's mother, and the bouts referee, Richard Green, both committed suicide within eight months of the Mancini-Kim fight, and the world boxing council decided to reduce the length of championship fights from 15 rounds to only 12 as a direct result.
  16. Yeah. I contemplated going to Las Vegas to see it live, but I just got back from vacation, and don't want to spend the money. The undercard is weak, but I can't pass up this great fight. I hope Margarito pulls out the win, but if I could get even money, i'd have to take Cotto. Should be a great fight either way. Oh, and to get back on the subject, being in the market for a pair of Cornwalls, but not opposed to going with Chorus II if I find a great deal, I too am curious about the outcome of Stormin's findings. If possible, please compare how variations in placement affects each models sound, for better or worse. I have very limited options as to where I can position speakers. Thanks.
  17. Not necessarily. I was reimbursed $460 for a Marantz 2325 with a box that showed no sign of damage. If the driver drops a 50 lb package from waist (or even chest) level, and it lands flat, chances are there will be no sign of abuse to the box. If the contents of the package are heavy 30 year old electronics, chances are that something is going to break. In my case, it was the lamp housing. Fortunately for me, the shipper took plenty of photos of the lights working properly before he shipped it. Even if the equipment was newer, it's possible that something internal could have broken.
  18. You're not being a jerk. It was on him to test the unit, upon arrival, to insure that it worked as stated. I don't know what shipping company you used, or the time frame in which you had to file a claim. With FedEx ground, you have 21 days to report a claim. With the U.S. Postal Service, I believe that you have at least a month. One thing that you don't do is to send an insured item in for repair before the shipper has a chance to inspect it. At the very least, they are going to want specific photographs of the item as well as the box(es) and packaging that the item was shipped in. If the buyer discarded the packaging before he found fault with the item, he basically voided the insurance coverage. I have had two (considerably less expensive) pieces of stereo equipment arrive damaged, or not working properly. One was a cheap receiver that had no sound from one channel. I waited a few months before I hooked it up, and when it didn't work as stated, I realized that I had screwed up by not testing it upon receipt. I didn't even mention it to the seller. Granted, we're talking $100, not $3000. The second time was a bit more expensive, almost $500, but I had learned my lesson. The claim took months to go through, but I was finally reimbursed for the item, plus shipping, and they let me keep the damaged amp, which I had repaired for under $200. I'm not saying to forsake the buyer. On the contrary, I would do everything I could, short of screwing myself over, to make him content. Just make sure he understands that his actions, or inactions, as it were, left you unable to recover damages from the shipper. In the future, it couldn't hurt to photograph and/or videotape the working and physical condition of any expensive equipment, with a time stamp, before packaging for shipment. Good luck resolving this.
  19. I surely wouldn't play it on my nice turntable. I have a 2nd turntable with a cheapo stylus hooked up to my second phono input so I can play my less than clean records. Even so, I still might shy away from playing that George Carlin record of yours on that player. It shouldn't be too tough to track down an inexpensive replacement copy of the LP. Here you go: http://www1.gemm.com/search/artist/George-Carlin/George--Carlin/T/
  20. Bob, 6 years (almost to the date) late, but if you are still looking for the specs, the following is offered BIN on Ebay (no affiliation). Says it includes schemetic and operating instructions: http://cgi.ebay.com/Electro-Voice-1179-solid-state-amplifier-manual_W0QQitemZ360026223347QQihZ023QQcategoryZ3284QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  21. I'm not sure. They were manufactured in 1986 if that tells you anything. I tried, but could not find a photo of the rear of that year's model. How likely is it that something internal was damaged when the binding post was broken? Thank you for your input, Bob.
  22. Hello. I have been poking around this site for a few months, but this is my first post. Hopefully it is in the correct catagory. I have been offered a pair of original Forte speakers for about half of what I see them selling for, but one of the speaker's binding posts has been broken off. I have not yet seen the speakers, so I can't answer any questions regarding the extent of the damage. All I have been told is that it looks like a new connector could be soldered into place. Has anybody here had any experience replacing binding posts. Is it an easy fix, or would it be easier to replace the whole plate assembly? Are the parts still available from Klipsch? When I go to check them out, is there anything I should be looking for as far as collateral damage is concerned? I was actually looking and saving up for a nice local pair of walnut Forte IIs, but if these are an easy fix, I can hardly pass them up. If the repair is going to run me over $100, or be a big headache, I would rather pass on these and put the money toward Forte IIs. I appreciate any help that you can offer. Thanks.
