  1. Hi all... With the installation of a Reference RF-52 II 5 speaker system, I decided to keep my RW-10 subwoofer (at least, for the time being). However, in wiring up the system, the installer had Line In cables put in instead of a LFE (which is what I had previously). Part of this is my fault for a) not having the subwoofer in place when the install took place & not telling the installer what I had/wanted. I still need to get the subwoofer setup and to have the speakers "tuned" through the receiver... but my question is this? Is there a difference between LFE & Line In? If I keep the Line In, do I need to do anything "differently" with the subwoofer or with tuning? Thanks, Jeff
  2. Thanks all... One "final" question regarding the RS-42s . I understand that there is a wall mount that's included... but I think that's just a keyhole to hang them up. Is hanging them as simple as 1) finding a stud, 2) drilling in a screw or hammering in a nail, and 3) hanging the speaker? Any recommendations on how big of a screw or nail I need to use? Jeff
  3. Thanks for the replies ... I sent an email to Acoustics & another to Sound Distributors SD quoted me $ 1,176 for 2 RF-52 IIs, RC-52II & 2 RS-42 IIs (Free Shipping, no sales tax) ASD quoted me about $ 50-55 more for the same (or very similar) system. Any reason not to go with SD? PS - Also, per Mike, Klipsch has 10% price increases coming on September 1st (in case this hasn't already been discussed)
  4. While I could probably afford a Reference system, I think that I am going to go with a Icon based one. Especially after seeing the following at Best Buy KF-28: $ 350 each or the KF-26 for $300 each KC-25: $ 280 With the purchase of these speakers, you get a pair of the KS-14s free ($ 280). So with a 10% off coupon off of an items ... I can get this for $ 945 or 850 (plus tax, of course). I might be able to shave off another $ 30-35 if I can use a second coupon at the same time. BTW - I already have a Klipsch subwoofer (RW 10) Am I missing something? I also saw that they had 2 open-box VF-36s for $ 200 each or VF-35s on clerance for $ 180 each... but those wouldn't get you the free surround speakers offer. Having said that, the overall prices would be comparable; even taking the 10% coupons out of the picture. Sorry - I realize that it is all subjective ... just trying to make sure that I don't a) pay for something that I would regret or overpay for something... (which for BB in a sales tax state - I know will probably happen) Thanks, Jeff
  5. Yep - that's the one. To add insult to injury, I realized that I had gotten every cable that I needed... except for the center speaker! D'OH! It's on its way (hopefully to arrive in Saturday's mail). Comcast to arrive tomorrow morning for CableCard. The only cable that I may need now is a Digital Audio one to go from the TV to the Receiver - but I don't think that that will be "necessary" at this moment.
  6. This is probably going to be a dumb question... I got my cable order from Blue Jeans Cable today and am in the process of hooking everything up. However, when I tried to plug my speaker cable into my Pioneer 1014, it appeared that the banana plugs are a bit too big for the binding post hole. Does that make sense? Do banana plugs have "different sizes"... or is it just that it will be a tight fit, which means I need to push a little bit to get it in? Thanks, Jeff PS - NEVER MIND Didn't realize that the collars needed to be loose before putting the plug in. Geez... of all of the stupid things
  7. Ant Thanks - Bought my RSX-4s this evening (just noticed that the mix-matched the color). I read something here that the Sanus stands were a bit unstable for the RSXs ... is that from an older model? Are yours fairly stable "out of the box"? Thanks, Jeff
  8. Thanks... just realized that there was a follow-up to ask Raw or Terminated? Again, this may not matter with a short run like I'll have.
  9. Want to thank everyone who has answered (or even read) my newbie questions regarding HT in General.. and specifically Klipsch. Just got back from the HT store a little lighter in the pocketbook, but with some "goods". 4 RSX-4s, RCX-4, RW-10 to go with a Pioneer 1014 (previous bought). This will be with a Sony KD-34XBR960 within the next week (hopefully). Not going to hook anything up until the TV and stand showup. Here's a dumb question to ask... for the receiver and speakers that I've gotten... is there going to be a big difference between 14 and 12 gauge wire? My fronts are going to be about a 3 foot run... while the back are about an 8 foot run for each. As I type that, it does seem like alot of speakers for a relatively small area; however, I wanted to get a set that would last me if I moved into a bigger apartment or condo/home and, while I liked the price point on the Quintets, I just didn't think that they would perform in a larger room. Thanks again, Jeff
  10. Antonio... Looking at the RSX-4s after considering the Quintets and purchasing RB-1s. Would the RB-1 work for the RSX-4s... or do you think that the Sanus stands would do a better job? Thanks, Jeff
  11. Ditto the 1014 recommendation. Of course, I haven't used it yet... but from what I've read, it's a great receiver.
  12. Steve, Realize that I'm not the original poster... At the moment, the 1014 is going to be driving the Quintet set with the KSW-10 subwoofer. I am thinking about returning the set to BB (haven't opened the box yet) and getting the Cinema 6 (or 8s... or a mixmatch) from a local HT store. Haven't made a decision on that yet (see my post for more). Jeff
  13. Got the Qunitet 5-spk set + KSW-10 subwoofer today from Best Buy. This is part of my whole "Apartment Theater" makeover... to go along with the Pioneer VSX-1014 that I just bought as well. Still need to get a HDTV; but I think that I found my store and my TV (KD-34XBR960) for a very good price. In fact, while visiting this particular HT store, I asked about Klipsch, since they are an authorized dealer. After talking with the salesman and looking at the different ones... I really like the look of the Cinema series. The Quintets, while not ugly by any means, look just like the ProMedias that I have. I also wonder if the Qunitets are going to be enough in the long run... or if I should just get the Cinemas now. If it matters/helps... The room is 8' x 13' (the 8' is approximate... its open-ended on one side). The TV would be along the 8' wall or in a corner (where the cable input is). Currently, I sit about 6 1/2 - 9 feet away from a 27" Trinitron (depends if I'm in a couch or on the floor. I will be using speaker stands for the satellites (RB-1s). Thanks all... the info that I've learned here has helped. Jeff PS - BTW, the salesman (who I wouldn't be surprised if he was one of the owners) gave very high praise to Klipsch. He said that he feels that Klipsch prices their speakers based on how they sound... not necessarly on how much it costed to design/produce them. In other words, he continued, he can tell even without hooking them up that the Cinemas would be better sounding than the Qunitets just based on the price! However, he also mentioned that the Qunitets were good... in fact, he doesn't know of a bad line of Klipsch that have been produced.
  14. Thanks for the info. Bought mine from BB last night for $450. Time to get some $ back!
  15. Mike, Thanks for the replies. I should of been a little clearer... The ProMedias are on my computer. I've never used them for Home Theater. As for my neighbors, I know some of them... and have definintely not had any problems with noise in the past. I just know that, with better quality speakers, there is the added "risk" for more noise. I'll look into the Cinema 6/8 set - Do you have a receiver recommendation? Jeff
