  1. Bought them new directly from Amy Unger at Klipsch. Was moving empty boxes, and they blew out the back of the truck.
  2. 60th Anniversary Khorns still for sale. They are near mint and sound like new. Click on the link, and make me an offer! Delivery is possible in Southern California or you can pick them up. Buyer pays shipping. I am trying to obtain replacement boxes from Klipsch if they need to be shipped.
  3. Thanks for the reply. This was one of those "I'm never going to sell them" purchases that most of us make at one time or another. It breaks my heart to let them go. I want another Klipsch fan to enjoy them as much as I have. Cpreal
  4. Close-up of top hat. Piano black finish.
  5. Enclosed back. (Bright areas are reflections, not scratches.)
  6. Crossover window. Top-grade parts and wiring.
  7. Plaque on back. 151 out of 200. (Reflection from flash.)
  8. My 60th anniversary Khorns are for sale. I am moving to a smaller listening room, otherwise I would keep them. They are close to mint. Number 151 out of 200 pairs. If you are looking for the ultimate Klipschorn, this is it. Unlike the mods out there, it is factory stock and fully supported by Klipsch. I bought them directly from Amy Unger at Klipsch. You are unlikely to find another pair anywhere in the US. I hate to see them go, this is my second pair of Khorns, lovingly cared for in a smoke-free, pet free environment. Unlike other Klipschorns, the 60th Anniversary can be toed in or out to for placement flexibility unavailable in any other khorn. You could buy a new pair of plain Khorns for $9000 or buy mine and get the best they ever made. They also have magnetically attached grilles, metal kick plate instead of wood (with a real diamond inset), WBT binding posts, and a viewing window where you can see the crossover, which features the highest parts quality ever in a Klipsch speaker. The finish is a unique combination of gloss black top and lacewood veneer woofer cabinet. It is much more beautiful in person than in pictures. This pair was driven only by a Fi 421a SET amp (already sold, sorry) These are also advertised for local SoCal sale. If you want to hear them, reply to the link on Audiogon. Prefer local sale, but will ship or deliver within reasonable distance. If you've been looking for these, now is your chance. You are unlikely to find another pair anytime soon..... Check out the link: here
  9. Yes, you can buy online, but the point is that you can't listen to them (or even look at them) first.
  10. I tried the Quad 909 on my 60th Anniversary Khorns, when I was waiting for my Fi 421a amp to be built. The 909 was dead quiet on the Quad 988 ESL's. Not so on the Khorns. The background hiss was unbearable to me. The 909 is not suitable for a very sensitive speaker like the the Khorn. Even with the preamp turned off (Mcintosh c2300), the noise was too loud. With the Mcintosh preamp and the Fi amp, I hear no noise, hum or buzz at all from the Khorn, unless the volume is turned way up. The Cornwall is a little less sensitive than the Khorn, so it may work, but you should definitely try it first before you spend any money. The Quad is a fabulous little amp, especially for ESL's, but is designed for a less efficient speaker. The Klipsch will amplify every weakness upstream-- hum, buzz, ground loop, everything. My 909 has plastic banana jacks on the back.
  11. Yeah, it took a while to get the system together. The Fi 421a amp took a while to get. He's backordered about five months. The Mcintosh came from Audio Classics. The SME tonearm came from the UK. The Ortofon tonearm came from Argentina. The plinth from Taiwan. You get the idea. It's not like I could go to Best Buy to assemble this system! Thanks for the compliments! cpreal
  12. I haven't checked in for a while. Photos of the pair I won will be up shortly. I'm waiting on a McIntosh preamp to arrive..... cpreal
  13. I bought the other pair auctioned by Amy. I am a new member of the forum, but have been lurking for years. I previously owned a pair of '82 Khorns. They were beat up pretty badly (cosmetically), so I sold them after five years (for what I paid for them). I am looking for a new amp to drive the 60th with. I have a Sonic-T, and a Dynaco 70 to use in the meantime. I also have a Quad 909 (which will be up for sale in a few days with the Quad 988's). Going from the Khorns to the Quads, then back to the Khorns will be tough. So why am I going back to Khorns? I guess what I missed the most about the horns was the sound of the horn-loaded bass and the size of the image. Plus the wife was sick of the ESL's sitting out in the middle of the room. I also like SET amps. On my previous Khorns I used Cary 300se monoblocks. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I should use with the 60th? Or should I just try the McIntosh 275 and be happy? I listen mostly to vinyl, but I also have a Squeezebox for digital. I prefer tubes and SET. I will post photos when I get them. They should be on the truck soon. Thanks Amy! cpreal
