  1. I'd say $1300 is fair. IMHO, Heritage prices have been back on the rise lately. I'm seeing LaScala's in the $1200 range more often and Belles seem to get an additional 10-20%. Bottom line is I don't think you'll lose on these when you decide to sell. I've heard Belles, but not side by side with LaScalas. Those "in the know" say they sound nearly identical. If that's the case, I think you'll be pleased with the bass. My LaScalas don't go nearly as low as my Cornwalls, but the bass they produce to about 50hz is ridiculously impressive. You'll shake windows. Jeff In my search for some Khorns,I've come across a super nice pair of Belle Klipsch. They are finished in Walnut, condition is a 9 out of 10.They are local,so no shipping. The price of these is 1300.00(which seems fair) but I'd like to sell them at a future date without losing much $if and when I locate some Khorns.Does anyone have a feel for this price relative to past sales? Also, are these badly bass deficient?I have a sub,but coupled with the size of these I'm running out of room quickly. Thanks, Pat ----------------
  2. Wow, it's my lucky day! I too would love to get in on this please. my email is tidmack@yahoo.com and that's also my paypal account number. Thanks for the offer!
  3. Hi All, It's been a while since I've posted, I hope all is well. I currently have a pair of '86 Cornwall II's and '85 or '86 LaScala's. I'm interested in trading my LaScala's for a pair of Cornwall I's (w/alnico drivers) or Khorns. The LaScala's could also come with a custom stereo cabinet that was designed to match the LaScala's. It's also made with the birch finish and has cane inlays in the doors to match the grilles on the speakers. It's really a cool piece that you need to see to appreciate. . .or possibly really dislike My LaScala's are currently at my Dad's house, being used in his rec room as a part of a two channel system. I don't have serial numbers off hand, but I can get them for anyone who's interested. The birch finish has been cleared or was factory ordered with a clear coat. The finish is semi-gloss and very appropriate/tasteful for the speakers. Both speakers come with with custom glass tops with felt bottoms that have kept both pieces in remarkable condition. One glass top does have a chip on one corner. There are absolutely no stains on the finish and any scratches that I haven't been able to find would certainly be minor. One of the cane grilles seems to be discolored a bit on one side, and I don't know if this was common?? Please email me directly at tidmack@yahoo.com if you're interested in a trade. I'd prefer a Milwaukee area trade so the speakers can be seen beforehand by both parties, but I'll entertain shipping them if a trade is too good to pass up. I can email detailed pics of both speakers upon request. Thanks again for your time. Jeff Tiedke tidmack@yahoo.com
  4. Capt'n, Thanks for the explanation on the power order, makes total sense now. unless I hear of a more technical way to set my gains, I think I'll use your "ears" method for setting them. take care Jeff
  5. Hey guys! Sorry for the delay for a Thank you, I've been on vacation! Let me tell ya that the board members in the Vancouver area have some great food, scenery, and girls Q, you mentioned sensitivity. . .how do I correspond the output sensitivity on my preamp (mx-113) to where I set my gains? Is this something I would need to use a meter for, or just use the meters off the amp somehow? Thanks again. I won't be back online again until monday so I may be a bit slow in responding. Appreciate all the help guys!! Jeff Tiedke
  6. Hey fellas, I picked up a mc-2105 a few weeks ago to use with my Cornwalls and I've been extremely pleased with its performance. One thing though. . .where should my gains be set at? The owner's manual talks about using a test tone and setting the meters accordingly. Is there an easier way? Is there a general rule with Mac amps? I've kept both gains at halfway since bringing it home, since I figured I'd be safe there. One last question since this is my first time with separates. . .which piece of equipment should I turn off first: amp or preamp? Thanks as always guys! Jeff
  7. Hey Guys, I have a chance to buy a MC2105 amp and MX113 preamp/tuner combo here in town. Both pieces are dead mint with boxes, cases, and literature. The price is $1150. Good buy? I see varying prices on eBay, but conditions vary a lot too. I'm looking for feedback from users of these pieces too. Any help is greatly appreciated. The unit would power either my cornwalls or lascalas. . .depending on which ones end up in the living room. Thanks! Jeff
  8. Hey guys- I had a chance to hear Mike's K-horns last night. He has a number of beer related items up for sale and I wanted to stop by his house and check a few out. I came home with two fabulous signs. I also happen to be a Klipsch fan and stop by the board here often. I am by no way affiliated with Mike, we just happen to live in suburbs of Milwaukee. Take my word that these speakers are incredible. The smoothness is just jaw-dropping. Although they sound similar to my Cornwalls and LaScalas, Mike's K-horns are in another league. Bass is full, tight, and effortless. The warmth from the mid and tweeter horns is absolutely soothing. Keep in mind I listened to these horns through a solid state Mac. Although the ss Mac is still quite warm, I wanted to reinforce that my demonstration was not with tubes. If anyone here on the board is interested in purchasing Mike's K-horns, you have my word that they play flawlessly and sound absolutely incredible. Both cabinets are very nice as well. One speaker top is showing a bit of wear off to the left side. One of his pictures on eBay shows this area. Take care all and I'm on the prowl for another pair of Cornwalls. Anyone in WI, IL have a pair that they would part with?? Jeff
  9. Good topic fellas. . . So is it bad for the amp or speakers to run both the A and B channels at the same time with two pairs of speakers? Jeff
  10. Gil, Thank you very much for your easy to understand response. have a great weekend! Jeff
  11. Fellas, maybe someone can help me out. . .how exactly are these results read? I know the basics about db's and their log relation to wattage. I guess my question is: what do these results mean? I too own cornwalls and la scala's and I think it'd be fun to someday do a side by side, comparing each speaker's qualities. Thanks guys Jeff
  12. Hi, Actually the post below about the trade was started by me. LaScala's and Cornwalls are totally different, yet excitingly similar. . .if that makes sense. I think the lascalas win hands down with almost any music, other than R+B/rap/hip-hop. With those styles of music, I really love the Cornwall's deep bass. BUT, if I had a subwoofer to go along with my lascalas, (maybe one of those SVS's or a Vel HGS-18!!) I think I'd be in speaker heaven. I'm pretty sure that either speaker will suit you well though. Jeff
  13. Busa, Ahhh, good question. I"m happy with my LaScalas, but I'm running them with a pair of cornwall IIs. I'm really torn between the best of the two speaks. I really enjoy the strong mids on the Scalas, but as everyone knows, they really lack the low-end. That's why I bought the Cornwall IIs. They really hit nice down into the 30's Hz, which I miss on the Scalas. BUT, I don't think the Cornwalls have the mids that the LaScalas do. At any rate, I've been toying with pairing up the Cornwall IIs with another pair of Cornwall Is or IIs and either selling or keeping the LaScalas for the living room. Do I maybe have a good combination, with the two complimenting eachother with their individual strenghts?? Maybe I'm better off leaving it the way it is? Either way, I'm definitely looking for another pair of Cornwalls. If anyone has any leads within 200-300 miles of milwaukee, let a fellow Heritage fan know!! Thanks and any comments or suggestions are welcome, Jeff
  14. Hey all, I'm on the lookout for another pair of Cornwall I's or II's for my rec-room. I live near Milwaukee, WI and would like to find a pair w/in driving distance. Anyways, I may entertain a partial trade for my LaScalas for some Cornwalls. If anyone has any info, please post or email at: tidmack@yahoo.com thanks Jeff
  15. Horn Player- Drop me an email if you get a chance with info on your single la scala. I'm curious what year, finish, and of course price. Thanks Jeff tidmack@yahoo.com
  16. Boa, Yes, Kurt did also tell me that the hgs-18 would be fine. . .and you're also correct that I can't afford one I'm going to give a 150 a try soon. I had planned on a spl-12 or hgs-15, but it looks like I could get 2 ct-150's for that cost. anyone have experiences with the 150?? do they indeed work well with Klipsch?? Jeff
  17. Hey guys, I've been speaking to Kurt at Vel lately and he had some interesting things to say about their subs with Klipsch speaks. He actually recommended the CT-150 over the HGS subs with heritage Klipsch's. He said that the efficiency of the 150 makes it a better match to the heritage (la scalas and Cornwalls in my case). He said that the HGS line, although among their best subs, don't keep up well with Klipsch speaks. I know this board has raved about the the HGS's, but what do you guys think of the CT-150?? I'm hoping to listen to one this weekend, but I'm wondering how they match with your Heritage speakers. Any help is always appreciated Jeff
  18. Boa, Great advice! I've spoken with Kurt before and he's quite helpful. i'll be sure to post my decision/results. Thanks Jeff
  19. Guys, I've been reading about and listening to subs for quite a few months now, trying to find one that I really like. I absolutely fell for the Velodyne HGS 15. I've been reading recently though about their SPL line of subs. Velodyne doesn't have a SPL 15, but they do have a 12. Unfortunately, I'm unable to listen to one. can anyone offer insight on the SPL line (vs. HGS) and let me know if the 12 will do the job? I'd be using it for home theatre and music and it'll be paired with laScalas up front and Cornwalls in the rear. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Jeff
  20. I used a product similar to Al's. . .the name has escaped me though. I had good results with it on my Scala squakers and tweets and Cornwall II tweeters. I couldn't tell a difference at low volumes, but I did an wrapped/unwrapped comparison with my scalas and the difference was noticable at high volumes. The ring that is sometimes associated with these speakers was diminished greatly. IMO, this is the best low buck upgrade to heritage speaks. Thanks for all the help guys. Jeff
  21. As always, thanks for your input guys. I have some time to think, but I'm leaning toward a custom made center channel right now. I"ll keep you updated as things progress. Jeff
  22. Hey all, I have a pair of '84 Cornwall II's backed by a pair of '80 la scalas. By Spring, I'd like to finally set up a home theatre. I know these speakers aren't a perfect sonic match, but that's what I can work with for now. I'm not sure of a sub yet, but I'm really impressed with the two Velodyne's I've heard. Anyways, it'd be best to have the la scalas up front I think. They're a little more tight than the cornwalls and I like their "up front" imaging. With this in mind, is there a center channel that I can use, or should I have one made?? There's a local shop that specializes in used Klipsch and I recall him mentioning that he's made center channels for older speaks before, using drivers that match the fronts. I can't imagine this route being reasonable in price though and I only want to do it if it's necessary. So you heritage owners, what have you done for center channels and are you satisfied with the results? Thanks guys Jeff
