  1. So wait, if a manufacturer offers to sell you an extended warranty on their product it isn't a scam?
  2. There's these things call Blu-Rays, maybe you've heard of them, they came out like 3 years ago or so.
  3. Ok, I re-read it and understand now. Instructions weren't all that clear. I can't try it though, because all I have is a receiver (and I only do 5.1)
  4. Now That ain't right!!! LOLOL!!! at so many levels!!!! I was actually just replying to the original video, but it is funny in the context of the other replies
  5. Not sure I follow. You already have 7.1 but you want to split your surround channel from 5.1 instead? And this is supposed to be better? I know I'm probably just misunderstanding.
  6. Yep, this pretty much sums up this season of American Idol. They got rid of the most interesting singers at the very beginning, which made the rest of the season a flop. And with no Simon after this season, I don't see this show having much success in the future either. As far as experience, Lee is not exactly a newcomer to the music scene either. He already had a couple indie-label CDs before American Idol. Who knows, maybe Crystal will come out with something decent? I thought of her as a Janis Joplin wannabe myself, but her duet with Alanis Morisette makes me think she might be able to do something more contemporary. I do agree that her "alternative" look cost her some votes. There is no doubt in my mind.
  7. Thanks for the warning, but I would have never considered purchasing a Philips TV anyway.

    anybody got TB??

    I've got 3 Internal 1TB drives, 2 external 1TB drive, a TiVo with an upgraded 1TB drive, and 2 750GB drives.
  9. Looks great! More than I'd spend on a Blu-Ray player, though.
  10. -R if you want to borrow/give someone a disc to play on their own system. Otherwise, doesn't really matter.
  11. Are you sure that the TV has digital pass-thru? My Samsung has "digital passthrough" but all it passes is two-channel audio. As far as your concern about switching if you decide to "split" the video and audio signals-- that problem is easily solved with a Harmony remote. Edit: Looking on AVS forum, I found this post: Which reminds me -- ONE PROBLEM with this TV. For some stupid reason, the optical digital out on the TV will output in stereo only when viewing an HDMI source. Panny tech support confirmed this, which makes the output really useless. It could have been VERY NICE to have a single optical audio cable running from the TV, but I found 50-foot cable cheap enough it doesn't matter too much. But not passing an optical signal in 5.1 (at least) was a real bonehead move by Panasonic. (I don't know that it was a "bonehead move," I just think it is probably more difficult than us laymen realize).
  12. Why do you hope so? I think Ellen will be a good addition to the show. I always FF'ed over everything Paula said, so I'm glad she's gone. I don't know what kind of musical experience Ellen will bring to the table, though, and I wonder if she will be too nice to the contestants? We'll see, but I look forward to the new season.
  13. Why would you post an underlined sentence, and not have it be clickable? That's like super-gluing a quarter on the ground and watching people bend down to try and pick it up. Funny Video, though. Here's a link that you can actually click:
  14. Sons of Anarchy is probably my favorite show. It's the one I look forward to most, anyway. I've converted a couple people, but I am constantly recommending it. I am really exited about the new season. First episode started off with a bang (several bangs, actually, and in more than one connotation). I have a SAMCRO long sleeved t-shirt, and am glad it's starting to get a bit cooler outside, so I can wear it again. I also love True Blood. I thought it would be a girly vampire show when it started, but I gave it a try anyway, and am glad I did! Sucks that Sunday's episode is the season finale. It will be back, though.
  15. Whether or not it supports hardware acceleration is one thing, so your processor isn't doing all the work. A good graphics card that can do hardware decoding is a night and day difference. Playback is a lot smoother, and less taxing to your system. Keeps overall temps down as well. Also, being HDCP compliant is a huge plus, if your monitor is also HDCP compliant. If it isn't, you have to run extra (expensive) software in the background just to get Blu-Rays to play. I have an ATI Radeon HD3870 in both my main computers. You can find them online for ~65 now. Unfortunately, they were a bit more expensive when I first bought them. As Jay mentioned earlier, size is definitely a consideration, as these cards are very large. I had to make some modifications (a real hack job, to be honest--I actually had to resort to using scissors) to my motherboard on one of my computers to get the card to fit.
  16. Your post should have read: Their ad should have read "Blose and Klipsch." Your good Invidiosulus!!! You picked right up on that. Oh, so it was on purpose. And I suppose you meant to say "your good" instead of "you're good," too.
  17. AVCHD = Download the Hi Definition .mkv file and convert it to AVCHD for playback on your Blu-Ray player. Looks awesome.
  18. You don't have cable, but you do have internet, right? You can ususally "find" episodes on the internet the day after they air, sometimes even same day.
  19. Should be awesome. Been waiting for this since they first announced it, something like, 3 years ago.
