  1. Looks like a good option to use along with other soundproofing layers. Wonder how much more it costs over standard drywall ?
  2. Glad things worked out with your project.
  3. Diamonds are always good. Link
  4. Drywall square is a must have. Make sure its square before you buy it, not all are perfectly square. Bring a sharp pencil with you and mark both sides of a factory cut 4x8' sheet lightly and make sure the lines run parallel. Don't do this in front of employees though.
  5. Just got back from buying a new humidifier, my old one had a rod knock and kept me up all night.
  6. Build them with a better wood, you won't be sorry, also OSB is not very smooth depending on what kind of finish your thinking of. I like the spud, I only have one and would like to build another for the other corner, it's amazing what it can do with small drivers, it's a cheap build for a good sub. There is also the bigger brother of the Spud using bigger drivers if that fit your space better ? I was thinking of maybe 4 SPUDs in my theater... 1 SPUD (or maybe 2 behind my back row) would work, and maybe 2 of the larger versions for the front screen (if I could find the plans for them). I wish that i would have had the cash when they had they Super SPUD kits. I would have bought 2 of them! Nothing's ever on sale when you have money. Happens every time.
  7. True, there was a big block option in 65, the 396.
  8. There are better options but its not going to be cheap.
  9. Make sure the cans are secure so there will be no rattles before installation. You can use good caulk and/or soundproofing self adhesive sheet if you run into this problem.
  10. Will you be using dimmers ? If not you could always wire your cans to light the important areas on one switch then the rest on another for more lighting options rather front & back of the room.
  11. I could be wrong, but I would think there would be way to much flex, and voids. I have seen it used for some subs and according to this link there are no voids... http://www.norbord.com/na/blog/plywood-or-osb-panels-which-is-better-2 It is way cheaper. Oriented strand board (OSB) would be the absolute worst choice for speaker cabinet building. Why? I have seen it used for subs and according to the link I posted it has no voids. It has no density. I used it before for wall sheathing & I-beam floor joist construction when i was building houses & see it all the time when shopping for plywood & shop stuff. Its super cheap and it has a purpose but not for cabinet building.

  13. Honker indeed, but they are SO worth it. Also, the absolutely do NOT honk. Just the most spooky realistic female vocals you have ever heard. No honk from these horns, they do sound spectacular. I was referring more to the horn size in general.
  14. If you're looking for sound quality & smaller sealed box 2 of these in a cabinet will be hard to beat for the price. Dayton 15
  15. If its out of warranty open it up and see whats buzzing. Maybe its just a capacitor that you can throw a little hot glue on.
  16. Update or replace your crossover depending what XO you're currently running. (some stock ones sound good some don't) Add a horn sub to your system. The K-402 is a great upgrade if you don't mind a big honker on top of your cabinets.
  17. If the hard drive tests out OK you may want to update your sound card driver or revert back to an older one if its available.
  18. Here are others you may want to check out. Link
  19. More likely than not your hard drive is on its way out. Windows has a program to test its hard drive or there are other programs out there that may be more accurate. Link
  20. Just when i was going to market some high definition speaker wire and audio cables something like this has to pop up.
  21. I agree with you here, the only time i use pressed & glued sawdust sheet is when i have to. With so many good plywood products available why use a inferior product.
  22. Yes, the chinese Baltic Birch with the thin veneer layer available at Home Depot, Lowes & Menards is garbage for speaker cabinet construction. My Menards used to stock Auraco Plywood now it is no longer in stock but luckily i found a kinda local lumberyard where they stock some decent void free stuff & BB.
  23. Those other product$$$$ are pricey options. Just get a Mini DSP 2x4 for $105, a $20 Radio Shack 12V. power supply, the Mini USP UMIK test microphone, and free REW software for your laptop. About $210 total. http://www.minidsp.com/ That looks like a great tool & won't empty the pocketbook. I just had a look at the websight and i think it will suit my needs perfectly. Keep me up to date with your progress Claude.
  24. Thanks, i will look into all these options. Never knew there were any other products available besides Audyssey. It just didn't make sense to go looking for a multichannel preamp or receiver when i would only be using 2 of them. I'm actually pretty happy with my current setup but like anybody else thinks there's always room for improvements
