$600 for Home Theater Receiver unless separate amp & preamp is a must.
-
NAD products will give you the warm sound you're looking for.
-
My sub was plans that i built off of but there are people who build them also.
There are quite a few different models and brands to choose from.
Bill Fitzmaurice, Danley tapped subwoofer, JBL, and others.
My Tuba matches perfect, i could not ask for anything better to compliment my LaScala's.
As you probably heard already horn loaded drivers sound different and if you like what you have stick with it.
-
Your best bet is to go with a horn loaded sub, the sound better matches the LaScala bass bin making it easier to blend.
-
Remove the jumpers on the back of the unit and put them someplace where you won't lose them and use the line out set of rca's to your amp input.
-
Priced right I'd jump on em.

The Forte II has a very nice overall sound and can deliver lower bass notes but the Chorus will give you a better kick in the pants with the cast 15" ported woofer especially under high volume.
The Chorus in my opinion has a better live concert sound but the Tractrix horn of the Forte II will sound more mellow and easier on your ears.
Both have their strenghts and weaknesses, its a coin toss if you cant hear them first.
Both are priced decent if the cabinets are in nice shape, i would go have a look at both sets before they are gone.

Probably that preamp, i had some noise problems with a few different models myself.
I highly doubt its the cables unless you have a bad set, just swap them out with another component to see.
-
I don't see any easy to install mounting holes or hardware to just give it a try either.
Harsh and overbearing does not sound like the K-77 anyways. [8-)]
-
Hope nothing came through the house.
Thats one hell of a antenna you had there.
As long as nobody got hurt you came out ok.
On the bright side now you have extra firewood for next year.
-
Check out the Marantz lineup, i have not heard the receiver as of yet but the integrated amp i heard sounded decent.
-
They came with the risers from the factory but were easily removed with if i recall right just 4 screws to hold to the main cabinet.
-
If you use anything to fill the holes get a small can of bondo body filler, it sticks better and can be drilled if needed.
As long as the holes are not in the same place it should not matter the degree of rotation.
If you rotate the woofer 180 degrees and the holes are not in the same place i would do that, if not it doesen't matter.
-
Placing subs apart can sometimes have that effect, have you tried different placements or the two in the same place ?
-
$600 is still a deal if they are in decent shape.[Y]

Be carefull using that lintseed oil, leaving your lintseed soaked rag around they seem to spontaneously combust.

Solid walnut cabinets would be rare. They are more likely walnut veneer like the rest of the heritage series.
I have a few pair of original Forte, they are great speakers.
Good luck with your sale. The cabinets are particleboard with veneer overlay.
$800 is very high even for a mint pair of Forte II's, never saw a pair sell for that around here.
Might try ebay for best results.
-
Probably better off with the RB 61's or 81's for surround speakers than the thx's.

I'm thinking with a used set of quintets and a low end receiver money might be better spent on a good sub rather than "good" cables and power conditioners. IMO of course
I agree, get yourself a nice little sub to compliment your new speakers.
Fancy wires can be purchased later if needed.

I spent quite some time shopping for speakers ( 6 mos) when i picked up my Chorus II's, the Forte II's were my second choice at the time. I remember auditioning the Klipsch lineup at the time and did not like the CF line of loudspeakers myself. Since then i have heard the CF2's briefly in a friends basement while playing cards and remembered why i passed on the CF purchase. Kinda harsh, gritty, and missing something compared to the Quartet's, Forte II & Chorus II's. The La Scala's and above were out of my price range at the time unfortunately.
2 of my friends own the Forte series speakers one the Forte and one the Forte II, i have spent more time in front of the Forte models myself as just about every other weekend we hang out and jam some Vinyl either by his place or mine.
I'm still very happy with my 2 klipsch loudspeaker systems and probably will not change a thing though recently picked up a new to me turntable and am very happy with the purchase and the price.

The CF3 is a two way design with aluminum diaphragms and does not even come close to the quality of sound of the Forte or Forte 2 in my opinion.
The Forte 2 is a little easier on the ears but both sound as good as the other.
-
The marantz integrated amps like the one mentioned have a very nice sound and would be a good option.
-
I never even thought about using DVD's for music, I'm not much of a TV watcher but if it sounds better it may be worthwhile looking into.
The SACD i have looked into before but there is not much selection in my type of music (most types of rock).
Heads up on H/K AVR 1565 $199 today only
