  1. I believe it shares the same horn. I think the RF-63 and RF-83 are larger (1.75?). Can't go with the RF-10s as towers. I was going to go bookshelf route, but did the towers instead....was limited in width of speakers. (Got RF-52's last week)
  2. What about bass shakers? Don't know much about them, but maybe something aim considering for my setup. Attach to sofa, and you get more low end rumble without having your neighbors disturbed? Or will they transmit to the floors and room?
  3. How the apt was constucted has a lot to do with what gets heard/felt. I just moved into my new apartment in NYC. Still haven't heard neighbors yet.... but old apartment, I was on 3rd floor. On second was a guy blasting his stereo. Figured I would hear something when I get to mine... nothing. Overkill for Apt? I just ordered the RF-52, RC-52, and RS42's for my new apt. I already have Heresy's....any my place is tiny... yeah maybe overkill, but who says it needs to be loud? Just clear and crisp.... Couldn't squeeze anything bigger then the RF-52s...going to be tight as is. Yes, very small apt.
  4. Where can I find this spec? Has anyone (manufacturer or reviewers) reported distortion figures, especially ones comparing, say, these to Klipschorns, Jubs, various JBL high end or pro models? Do you have any "raw" sensitivity figures for the speakers without the internal amps, so we could get a sense of the SPL that 1,000 wats produces when fed into the 12" woofers? "Can hit 130 dB" gives us a hint, but it doesn't say for what duration (neither do the max SPLs published for various Klipsch and JBL units, as far as I know) -- I'd rather get an idea of the program SPL which can be compared (approximately) using sensitivity and power handling figures. http://www.seaton-sound-forum.com/post?id=3569963&goto=nextoldest I'm going by this from the link instead for my calculations... "A single Catalyst can produce a good 123-126dB @ 1m at any one frequency in their operating range" So lets take the 1024Watt AMP and work back from 126dB. (1024 works better then 1000 for caclulation purposes, and at that point its 3% margin error.) Figuring that it is also harder to drive the woofers then the tweeters....hence bigger amps. dB - Wattage 126 - 1024 123 - 512 120 - 256 117 - 128 114 - 64 111 - 32 108 - 16 105 - 8 102 - 4 99 - 2 96 - 1 I'm going by the double wattage to get 3dB more sound. So it looks like these Seatons are 96dB... But at what distortion level? Anyways, if you going to stick with Klispch for the KH or LS route imho. I have only really experiences the Heresys as I own them. Not much room for stuff in my "2000sq/ft" studio apt....thats living and bedroom together in one..... :-)
  5. From my limited knowledge...if you house is hit directly with lightning, no surge protector will save your equipment. The surge proctector is more for dealling with spikes that get tranmitted from a distance. (lightning bolt is something like 1-10 BILLION joules, so a 1000 or 5000 joule isn't going to do much). I would be more worried about the type of clamping in it. http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=65&p_created=1000309964&p_sid=xXWMr-4k&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=65&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MTUxLDE1MSZwX3Byb2RzPTAmcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPWFuc3dlcnMuc2VhcmNoX25sJnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9Sm91bGVzIHZzLiBMZXQtVGhyb3VnaCBWb2x0YWdl&p_li=&p_topview=1 Just one link I found quickly. If you coax is grounded coming into the house, you maybe safe, but there really shouldn't be any harm with the unit on surge protector as long as it doesn't do anything else.
  6. http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/synergy-sub-12-specifications/ Or you looking for like a review with charts? Click the Review Tab, has a few listed. Might have what you want.
  7. I have KHO-7s on my boat connect to a car head unit. (8ohm speaker -- 4ohm amp; mis match I know...so I get even less wattage) Long short, I can still crank it up and hear them over a pair of Crusader 454's while we are crusing at 3000rpm. Pretty good speakers, 3rd season of them on the boat in the salt water.
  8. RCA Femae to split RCA Female: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10401&cs_id=1040107&p_id=326&seq=1&format=2 Use pair of Male-Male RCA cables on your AV Selector Outputs (L/R). Connect other end of each Male RCA cable to the splitters. So now a splitter is attached to a Left and Right Channel. Now we need two more sets of Male-Male RCA cables. Off the Left Audio cable, connect the Left Male-Male RCA cable Female connection on the splitter. On the Right Audio Cable, connect the Right side of the Male-Male RCA cable you just used to the Female connection of the Right Audio Cable. Now run the other end of this Male-Male RCA cable to your Left/Right Inputs on the DD5.1 Now take the other Male-Male RCA cable, and connect that to the two open outputs of the splitters. Then connect those to the TV audio in. Lastly get a single Male-Male RCA cable to connect up the TV from the AV Slector to the TV In. See diagram.(click HERE for larger version)
  9. Delayed response, but would not recommend it. You will damage the amplifier most likely by causing to low of an impedance load.
  10. So you need a RCA splitter and a extra pair of rca cables to split that second channel to theTV and the DD5.1. This will allow both left/right to the DD5.1 and you can still run the video and one of the audio feeds to the TV. monoprice.com or deepsurplus.com are decent places for cheap cables.
  11. You may not need a convertor, but just an adaptor. A lot of stuff will handle 110-240v an 50/60hz. Yes the plug is American, so all you may need it a convertor plug, usually like $20 for these, and the don't have any wattage restrictions as all it is doing is changing the plug type. I would get the speakers in your hands first and look at the backing plate to see if it says 110-220 before you buy the convertor.
  12. What is the 'A/V Selector' that you are talking about? Is this your cable box or the tv itself? What is the sources your feeding the dd5.1 with? Are you trying to use the dolby digital decoding on the dd5.1 or just one of the left/right inputs? From the sound, you just want a left/right input, but if you only yavethe one side connected your only aging to get the one output. What you need is a RCA to rca splitter to feed the audio cable that you have going to the tv to the dd5.1 as well. The optimal was is to just use a digital out off your source. Hence why I am asking if it is a cable box or tv your getting the audio from. Every cable box I have seen in past 15 years has digital out, and you could just run that one cable to get your left/right/surround to the dd5.1 and use the regular RCA outs to feed the tv to allow you to select that input.
  13. Jokingly: Just rotate the left and right speakers every month so they 'wear' together. Seriousness from my boat experience. The Suns UV eats away about 2 layers of varnish every year apparently. Then again, the wood is direct sunlight most of the day, not just morning. I also think, that morning Sun is less strong then sun at like 11-2, ever notice how you feel it more at those times when getting a tan or catching rays. The window film sounds like your best option to help block the UV.
  14. What digital decoder? If your using left and right, then that's not a digital signal. You'd want to make sure your using the digital coax output.
  15. Looks like the Cinema 10/8/6 // RSX series of reference satellites are no longer for sale. I know Klipsch is pushing the CS/HD ones pretty hard, and still have quinets available. Reason I ask is that I am moving into a new smaller apartment. I may not even have room for my Heresy's. I had owened Quintets in the past, and they where great. I just wouldn't mind getting the little beefier RSX line. Anyone with ideas on new equivalents?
  16. Man, no one hasmentioned the Ixtoc spill in the Gulf from 1979.... it is scary how much the news has avoided this. Just watch this clip. This and the Valdez have nothing in size to compare against from 30 years ago. http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2010/05/27/4370011-oil-spills-then-are-oil-spills-now
  17. I had originally purchased Custom 1s for running/biking....did not work out so well due to 'sweating' and found them constantly falling off...plus I still want to be able to hear cars/people easily to be better aware of my surroundings....central park, nyc. I got Sennheiser PMX 70's for $25. Found that the around the neck works best, plus they are 'water resistant' for runing in rain.
  18. Have you seen the new Epik Empire? Dual 15"s for $799. http://www.epiksubwoofers.com/empire.html
  19. $600 a month? Was he using it every day @ WOT? I think we spent $1200 last summer on gas for our boat, with our gas guzzlers...and we used it every weekend from april to october. Just informed she gets wet next weekend. Yikes, lots to prepare in weeks time. Not much of a pontoon guy. How big is the lake? Why not just get a 20' runabout. What exactly is making your want to go the pontoon way? If your serious about fishing, your going to be limiting youself serverly with the mobility of the pontoon boat.
  20. Meh. Get a real boat....head/galley/vberth/dinette. Mines got twin 300hp 454cc Crusaders :-) We only can do 30mph.
  21. Finally got pictures of my apartment(only till July, and just moved in in Feb)/new TT off the camera's memory card. Heresy II's, Scott 299B, Rega P2, iPod line adaptor.
  22. So is the spot(s) all taken? :-) Sounded like some second thoughts and what not. Toss me onto the list of taking over a pre-oder'ies spot.
  23. Will it work. Sure. Optimal? Who knows...it can be very subjective to your habits. What do you plan to mainly do? 60% HT 40% Music? 70/30? Never heard the THX U2 system, but Im sure it is a beast of a HT system. Guessing you want do not want a seperate 2 Channel system. A lot of people on the boards love the Heritage line. Very musical. Some swear by an all Heritage surround system. Contemplated doing that myself. If oppurtunity presented myself, I dont think I could pass up on the THX U2 system though.
  24. I could use a drink already. One heck of a morning here at work. The control panel that monitors the AC units failed. So it shut off the main unit, and didn't turn on the redundant.....best part is, the manufacture doesn't have any more of those panels....joy.
