  1. Because owning common stock on grants you rights to assets and earnings. Nothing to do with day-to-ay operations. Each share gives you a vote at the board-meetings. What is traded on the market is common stock. You also have preffered stock, which is different. In terms of what the gov't had originally, and converted over to common.
  2. bodcow boy hit some good points. The execs say that the good talent will leave without getting it. People cry about that but the fact is, they really will leave. Some people where not happy with what they got this past year, and people just resigned. Like came in Jan 2nd, and left Jan 2. Others have left over the course of the new year. If you lose some top talent, it maybe hard to get people back, not that their is lack of talent poll currently, but I'm sure some people will still demand ridiculous salary even if they are jobless, just based on the position they want to fill.
  3. /devils advocate. What if you where employeed at that company? What if you where on to get a bonus that you had a contracted from when you signed on long before this whole thing started. What if your from a department in the company that made them money this past year. Should one divison of the company make all suffer? Why not reward those that maybe didn't maybe saved them a few mill. What if you where the IT guy or the mailroom clerk. You make a base of $50k, and they give you $10k if all went well that year. Why make them suffer? /devil advocate off. Just to throw that out there. Yes, the whole thing is fustrating, and I hate to say it, but maybe we should let some of these companies fail and fall wayside. Then you wouldn't have this issue persay, but maybe we would have a slew of other issues.
  4. I actually watched it last night. I missed the first 10 minutes, so was totally confused why Noel wanted a segaway to be lifted into his Bently. Was touching when it all came together in the end actually.
  5. What size is that? 10" x 18"? Interested as well.
  6. Could call Klipsch and see if they have any extras instock and willing to sell. Try ebay. I see tons of ProMedia stuff there too.
  7. /me looks across the street at the 5th Ave Apple store. Guess I can make a stop on the way home from the office.
  8. Looks like they are set to release S2 and S4 very soon. $49 and $79. http://www.slashgear.com/klipsch-image-s2-s4-headphones-target-bargain-hunters-1137274/ http://www.klipsch.com/news-center/press-releases/details/new-recession-proof-klipsch-headphones-minimize-noise-maximize-comfort.aspx Man we are slow to pick up press releases right on the website, under our nose. So Prof Thump, need some testers for these new puppies?? :-)
  9. I do agree. The article lacks a lot of details we would like to see. From a professor, I would like to see more details on his tests, and sa what equipment he used. I guess for mainstream news, most people don't care, and the 'info' in the article is good enough.
  10. http://radar.oreilly.com/2009/03/the-sizzling-sound-of-music.html Interesting read on how more or more 'kids' are preferring the sound of MP3's wth higher comrpression.
  11. If you like Vin, you should wait till Fast and Furious IV (is it 4?) comes out next month!! /end sarcasm
  12. What is the volume set on your macbook and/or the headphone jack. Make it like 90% of max. See if that improves it.
  13. Since the payment thing should be settled... ....as for price. In different areas of the US, houses costs can significantly differ. A Studio aparment (400sqft) costs $1850 a month if I was in the city. A 3br apartment can easuly for for $3600 a month. Houses start at like $325000, which even with say 20% down, you looking at close to $2k a month, if you include you $8k a year in taxes.
  14. 1/4" lol. Had like 12"+ this morning when I left for work @ 5am. I like snow. I like to ski. Weeee.
  15. The AR change is 'unnoticable' to those us with a 16:9 HDTV or screen setup. (Most people didn't even notice it changing on my HDTV untill I pointed it out.) So yeah, for you(you guys) with a 2.35:1 I can see how this is annoying. I guess you would have to set your lense to a 16:9 format, and let it play the movie that way to avoid the cut off of the film...maybe they will release a staright 2.35:1 release instead of 16:9....eventually.
  16. I have and currently use the Ultra 5.1. I had the V4.2-400's(4.1's). Yes there is a big difference if you ask me. I think the SQ is better, but like you said, more bass, louder, and well the 5th channel.

  18. Ithink I saw an article about a supercomputer doing it in 21 moves. Most puzzles avg around 27. I don't think I have ever solved one entirely, I keep getting distracted. I have one at my desk at work, I cheat if I need to resolve it. http://www.wrongway.org/cube/solve.html
  19. I'm young, 27, working in NYC at a 'alternative financial investor bank' (yeah, Im being semi vague, and no I don't work at like a BoA, C or GS), I do IT/Engineering work. Been here for 4+ years, since out of college. I have a car payment, small rent, and no loans. 401K was down 47% last year. I've been looking, well wanting, to stop renting and get a house since early last year, but even now, scared to pull the trigger. I've always been pretty carefull in what I spend vs what I save. yes, I get some nice things, but also make sure I put away equally if not more then what i spend. So I haven't stopped spending entirely. I got the 52" samsung in Jan, rockband2 last week, and looking a road bike as I planning to compete in triathalons this year. So yeah, the $1500 road bike is also health related. Like someone else mentioned, keep alteast 6 months around. I had a friend who get laid off 4 weeks, ago, but just got a job offer. He is like a sales engineer at a software company. Things maybe down, but some stuff is in need. Similair situation for a different friend. Am I scared about my job? To a degree, but I've been pretty frugal in the past and not worrying about it. Just focused on what I do at work, and make sure I do it well to maintain my position.
  20. It sounds like the crossover is working in the klipsch setup. Then again I am no expert in how the speakers are meant to work. I would expect the left/right front/back to crossover and toss the lows to the subwoofer, but if the subwoofer channel has high's send it to the main front's. I don't know what kind of tone it is sending out. I know my Technics AC-500D has a white noise generator, and when it puts signal out to the subwoofer I barely hear anything from it, but then again, when watching movies, I get tons of bass. Have you tried any bass mp3 tracks and see how they sound? http://www.realmofexcursion.com/downloads.htm *note, use with extreme caution, as these may and have potental to damage your speakers.* I would turn volume all the way down, and slowly work up.
  21. Maybe I am not understanding right. Can you clarify what I quoted? Regardless of soundcard or what not, if you feed any signal to the LF/RF it should use an internal crossover and direct the bass to subwoofer. So even if you leave the sub/center and LR/RR unconnected, you will get bass from the sub. What kind of signal are you using, or is the motherboard using to test the subwoofer? If it's above say 120Hz your going to have a hard time regardless hearing it. Can you enable/disbale the subwoofer/lfe channel on the sound card? What is the level setting on the subwoofer on the control unit?
  22. maybe the ports on the motherboard are reversed? Have you tried the center channel? The sub and center share the same. If your saying the sub is coming out the front speakers, sounds like a cable swap issue.... well maybe they ports on the motherboard actually. I know some let you re-assign.

    New TV!

Honestly, I even see the 'Color' in my room. Forget it when the lights are out or its pretty dark. The color is non-existant. I saw this and the Pioneer 50TH800 or something, the THX one, next to eachother. They where very very similair to me, and same price, but the samsung was in stock.

    New TV!

I have the same TV. Awesome indeed. I have the automotion set to low for my HDTV-DVR, and OFF fot my PS3 and HD-DVD player. The auto-motion make some of the movies look worse. Ex. Opening flyby in the the City in Dark Knight has some funkinesson the top left corner. It was like the Black/White grid was becoming 'colorized' (think when anchors wore tigh pin stripes on SDTV days). All I have had people is complement me on the TV.
